Absolutely. Joseph definitely saw God. The question is whether the Father and the Son were physically in the grove with Joseph or spiritually displaying their image to him. Either way it was actually God he saw and it only matters to the understanding of the related principles. Something like this might be possible. For example I don't think the birds sitting in the trees were able to see what Joseph saw. I still like to think that they were physically there and Joseph Smith was transfigured to be able to withstand their presence and see them. (Moses 1:11, Matt. 17:2 , 3 Nephi 28:15) 1

I tuned in an hour late (arithmetic error), and there were 256K users of the stream at that time. I wonder what the servers are capable of... Thing is, it doesn't all depend upon SLC's servers. Live streams will of course require servers all across the world, for everyone in the world to see Conference. 1

I think many fail to realize that when one is having an authentic heavenly vision he seeing reality with greater clarity, acuity and perceptiveness than he is able to experience with the imperfect eyes and senses of his fallen body.
Ginger Snaps Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 We watched it on the Saints Channel on Roku with zero problems. In the past we’ve had some issues with freezing and reloading, but it was clear and smooth today. 2
MustardSeed Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 I was able to connect. admittedly I’m distracted by all the nose wiping and podium touching, mic sharing and facial touching. 😕 stay safe leaders!

Everyday life and mundane worries and struggles have a tendency to put me into a state of forgetfulness — and ingratitude. It is good to be reminded how good, how kind the Lord has been to me. Same here. Some months ago I felt impressed to write down all my spiritual experiences that were extraordinary, and I guess I was anticipating his talk! 1

I found out the other day that the term "First Vision" was first used by Elder Orson Pratt in 1849

(Moses 1:11, Matt. 17:2 , 3 Nephi 28:15) Whether Joseph was empowered by the Spirit to see the actual personages of the Father and the Son speaking to him, in real time, directly from heaven, or it the Father and the Son traveled from heaven to present themselves to Joseph in the sacred grove, he would still be actually seeing and conversing with the material personages of the Father and the Son.

Smith said: Which hymn? 5 minutes ago, Stargazer said: Come thou fount of every blessing This has come up several times before. It was one of many hymns in the old hymn book that were left out of the 1985 revision because they were not popular and not often sung. The reason it is so well-liked today is that Mack Wilberg popularized it with his BYU choirs and later with the Tabernacle Choir. We as a people get set in our ways and only want to sing the same 30 or 40 hymns and never bother trying anything new or less familiar. As a result, many good hymns get ignored and eventually dropped. As for “Come Thou Fount,” I think it’s Wilberg’s arrangement that’s makes it. Intrinsically, it is not all that outstanding. It’s nice, but there are a number of hymns in our hymnal that I like better that never get sung for the reason I noted above. And while I’m on my soapbox, I’ll say I don’t think we need a new hymnal. The one we have is quite serviceable enough. If we won’t sing anything in it now that’s unfamiliar, why does anyone think we’ll warm up to any new content in a new hymn book? 3

Quote Please carefully read each verse of the following excerpt from Ether 8 and then tell me if you think the brother of Jared was experiencing a vision or a visitation? 6 And it came to pass that when the brother of Jared had said these words, behold, the Lord stretched forth his hand and touched the stones one by one with his finger. And the veil was taken from off the eyes of the brother of Jared, and he saw the finger of the Lord; and it was as the finger of a man, like unto flesh and blood; and the brother of Jared fell down before the Lord, for he was struck with fear. 7 And the Lord saw that the brother of Jared had fallen to the earth; and the Lord said unto him: Arise, why hast thou fallen? 8 And he saith unto the Lord: I saw the finger of the Lord, and I feared lest he should smite me; for I knew not that the Lord had flesh and blood. 9 And the Lord said unto him: Because of thy faith thou hast seen that I shall take upon me flesh and blood; and never has man come before me with such exceeding faith as thou hast; for were it not so ye could not have seen my finger. Sawest thou more than this? 10 And he answered: Nay; Lord, show thyself unto me. 11 And the Lord said unto him: Believest thou the words which I shall speak? 12 And he answered: Yea, Lord, I know that thou speakest the truth, for thou art a God of truth, and canst not lie. 13 And when he had said these words, behold, the Lord showed himself unto him, and said: Because thou knowest these things ye are redeemed from the fall; therefore ye are brought back into my presence; therefore I show myself unto you. (Ether chapter 3) The Lord told Moses no one could see Him and live, yet he and the elders ate and drank with "the Lord." The latter was Yeshua. The former was the Father. Which would scripture mandate was talking to the brother of Jared? Obviously, Yeshua as YHWH Elohim. Scripture we have received through Joseph Smith himself shows this distinction. May I suggest you study up on it? The Father has never just physically appeared to a sinning boy who holds no priesthood, and cannot have been quickened. Joseph himself calls it a vision because that is exactly what it was. The Church needs to drop its inaccurate and conflicting narrative. I believe it causes problems for investigators. I wonder why this narrative only seems to bother me? Is there no one else in the Church which felt chords of dissonance being plucked on this issue as they grew up in the gospel? I am not saying there are no others. I am sure there are others who feel similarly... maybe for instance JLHPROF. Edited April 4, 2020 by RevTestament
