James the brother of Jesus was a top NT church official; once Peter was, gone the top. Israel is all one family’s descendants. One of the best ways to learn a job/calling is watching others do it. Ginger Snaps Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 The youth speakers did great! That must have been a daunting assignment! 4
Nofear Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) Random observation, in the “I Am a Child of God” recording the conductor (sorry bad with names) buttoned both of his two button suit buttons. That is not quite consistent with social norms around suit coats. https://missionary.lds.org/clothing/elder/dress/suits?lang=eng&_r=1 Edited April 5, 2020 by Nofear

Scott Lloyd Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) President Jean B. Bingham gave a wonderful talk about the Restoration bringing back the pattern of the Garden of Eden with men and women working in partnership and neither in a subservient role to the other. And I love that she eschews the singular they/them/their pronouns! She is very refined in her manner of speech. Edited April 5, 2020 by Scott Lloyd 3

This might be interesting to you. Quote How does the current Presidency and Quorum of Twelve Apostles measure up? 100% of them are related in some way to current or former general authorities of the LDS Church. In the top 2 leading quorums – consisting of 15 men (The First Presidency and the Quorum of Twelve Apostles), five of these men are directly related to each other. Four are related to each other by marriage. Four are directly related to former LDS Presidents. Five are directly related to former apostles. Two are married to wives who are direct descendants of former presidents. Five are married to wives who are directly related to former apostles. Seven are married to wives who are relatives of current general authorities or of their wives. The only apostle who has no blood ties to any other general authority is Apostle Richard G. Scott. But, true to form, his wife is related to several current general authorities and even descends from a former LDS apostle. Not sure when the quote was written. It looks like things are starting to change a little. In recent years, the Church seems to be trying to reach out to others outside that tight group. The person who wrote the article added this addendum. There may be more like this since the addendum was added. Quote Addendum: On 2 October 2004, President Gordon B. Hinckley presented Dieter F. Uchtdorf and David A. Bednar to the LDS Church as new apostles following the deaths of David Haight and Neil Maxwell earlier in the year. I have been unable to ascertain any extended family ties to current or past LDS General Authorities for either of these men or their wives. On 6 October 2007, Quentin L. Cook was presented as a new apostle after the death of James Faust. Elder Cook and his wife both have multiple ties to current and past General Authorities, including former President Spencer W. Kimball, former Apostle Heber C. Kimball, and former Presiding Bishop Edward Hunter. Edited April 5, 2020 by california boy 1

One thing interesting about Elder Richard Scott, his Dad was some kind of assistant to Ezra Taft Benson, when he was in Washington in the 1950's and so no surprise that in 1988? guess who calls Elder Scott to the Twelve? Pres. Benson

I know we are big on families but many of those family ties are second and third cousins , some by marriage. That being nepotism is a bit of a stretch. I cannot even tell you who most of my second cousins are. I think I know two of them and there are almost a hundred of them. 2

Popular Post MustardSeed Posted April 5, 2020 Popular Post Posted April 5, 2020 I was so deeply moved by the prophet. I know he is a man of God, inspired. What a remarkable man. I’m crying here- I rarely cry, it feels great to feel this deeply. 5
