rodheadlee Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 What do you expect to hear at general conference? I am surprised there are no threads on it.
Duncan Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 One thing i'm curious about is why did Pres. Nelson ask the Relief Society to read sections 84 and 107? he didn't set a timeline though, does that mean anything? Guess we'll see this weekend

I know there will be several talks when the Church President and other General Authorities will powerfully testify that the First Vision was a very real visitation of the actual physical personages of the Father and the Son to young Joseph Smith, just as he asserts in his Pearl of Great Price account of the vision.. This will leave those who are hoping the Church will eventually spiritualize away the reality of the First Vision by concluding it was a subjective or imaginary experience feeling very frustrated. It was as real as anything can be. Now, through a glass darkly, but then face to face

It sure seemed as real as anything can be to him... “... I had actually seen a light, and in the midst of that light I saw two personages, and they did in reality speak to me; and though I was hated and persecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true; and while they were persecuting me, reviling me, and speaking all manner of evil against me falsely for so saying, I was led to say in my heart: Why persecute me for telling the truth? I have actually seen a vision; and who am I that I can withstand God, or why does the world think to make me deny what I have actually seen? For I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it, neither dared I do it; at least I knew that by so doing I would offend God, and come under condemnation. (JS)

I thought that Pres Nelson was going to do a remote broadcast from the Sacred Grove. I'd like to see it. Have never been anywhere near Palmyra or Manchester, NY. Or will all that be cancelled due to COVID-19? It is very doubtful that the LDS Church will ever see the FV "spiritualized" away, as you put it. It's the Mormon ace-in-the-hole, and uniquely fits the biblical concept of God and His Son. Judeo-Christian religion rejects all that.

It really should be called "The Sacred Forest", and is really quite huge. http://scienceviews.com/parks/sacredgrove.html "The sacred grove is a pristine tract of forestland that once covered Smiths' 100-acre farm in Manchester Township, New York.... The Sacred Grove is one of the few tracts of pristine forestland that has been left unchanged in upstate New York. Mature trees at the time of Joseph sill grace the forest." Tacenda Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 What are the 3 scripture references that someone on this board brought up I think yesterday, that the women are suppose to read before we watch conference? I never got the memo/email, and I usually get things from the newsroom. I'm curious what they are, the only thing I remember is that they were out of the D&C.

(JS) I hate to burst your bubble but a vision is not necessarily a physical visit. Let's see. Paul had one which no one else saw. We are told Stephen saw God, which no one else saw. Joseph Smith never said he physically saw the Father, and in fact that contradicts scripture - that no one can see Him - at least not without being quickened. I wish the Church would stop pushing that narrative. You can feel free to harp on me all you want, but you cannot prove otherwise, because not even Joseph Smith says anything to support your physical visitation narrative. He did not call it the First Visit, but his First Vision.
The Nehor Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Women are getting the Priesthood so they need to review the requirements. I suspect there will be a segment in the grove but it is almost certainly prerecorded. Like the well-done social distancing in the seating. Even if they have been tested it is good to be an example. 1

Hopefully the world catches the message that the choir was prerecorded! I sped read the scriptures that was asked of the women to read, sure had a lot about the Priesthood in them, but I just don't see it happening, I think it will be given in very small doses though. The Hosanna shout is sure different at a conference, or is it?
Okrahomer Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 “It is Well with my Soul!” A fitting and beautiful hymn for today. 2

There has been a few temple dedications done remotely that many have participated in. I am trying to remember if I have any handkerchiefs. I used to but wonder if I kept them after the last move. 1
