Could be they want to give time for boys who are working on Eagle now to be able complete the program.

That would be my thought as well.

Might push some of the boys to get moving to finish quickly!!!

This should have happened when gays and transgender were let in.   The church lost its moral authority by staying with the crowd.  I stopped supporting Boy Scouts with their moral decay started.  It is embarrassing that the apostles just figured this out.

Even worse when the BSA let those darn Mormons in. And Jehovah's witnesses. And red heads. When will the BSA learn that people who are different are bad?

In 2020 the church is getting rid of all current youth programs, including Personal Progress, achievement days, duty to God, etc. and implementing a new youth initiative. Exciting times!

This is a great opportunity for the church to address the inequalities between the programs for young women and young men.

Or just have one program.

They certainly kept telling me I was bad because I was different...

"Nehor, stop cutting towards yourself with a knife."

"Nehor, stop dumping kerosene onto the fire."

"Nehor, stop throwing your hatchet at the trees."

Whine....Whine.....WHINE!!!

Good riddance I say!

I now have a testimony of President Nielsen. 😊

That's nice, but his name is President Russell M. Nelson.  Just sayin'! ;)

BSA will lose at least 20% of its membership, as they should.

That is to say nothing of the non-LDS scouts that LDS Scout leaders have included and taught the merit badge classes, etc. to for the past 100+ years.

At least the BSA will be more "inclusive" now.

Funny how inclusion will reduce numbers

Am I the only one disappointed? I've been involved in scouting since i was a cub before I knew the Church has anything to do with it. I know this has been coming a while with the changes with the BSA and with the Church needing a moral unified global program, but it's still sad. And it's sad to watch an organization I truly love falling apart

Got this email from the Church tonight:

New Worldwide Initiative for Children and Youth Development

New approach to replace all existing activity programs for girls and boys, young women and young men beginning in January 2020

The children and youth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worldwide are precious to us. They represent our future, and ministering to their needs is a significant focus for the Church.

For years, Church leaders have been preparing a new initiative to teach and provide leadership and development opportunities to all children and youth, to support families, and to strengthen youth everywhere as they develop faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This new approach is intended to help all girls and boys, young women and young men discover their eternal identity, build character and resilience, develop life skills, and fulfill their divine roles as daughters and sons of God. The initiative is designed to allow local leaders, families, and even the young people themselves to customize their efforts, while providing service opportunities and activities, fostering healthy relationships, and supporting communities. Details will be shared at childrenandyouth.lds.org as the implementation date approaches.

To this end, effective on December 31, 2019, the Church will conclude its relationship as a chartered organization with all Scouting programs around the world. Until then, the intention of the Church is to remain a fully engaged partner in Scouting for boys and young men ages 8-13. We encourage all youth, families, and leaders to continue their active participation and financial support of Scouting until that date.

We honor Scouting organizations for their continued goal to develop character and instill values in youth. The lives of hundreds of thousands of young men, along with their families and communities, have been blessed by Scouting organizations worldwide.

I was going off of this quote in the Deseret article-

“A new worldwide initiative for all Mormon boys and girls will debut in January 2020, replacing all existing activity and achievement programs, including the Personal Progress program for Young Women and the Activity Days, Faith in God and Duty to God programs for younger girls and boys, according to a church statement to members.”

Ok. Funny how it is worded on the website which the email linked to. If they are not going to have the programs it seems odd to say they "may" be affected. I wonder if they will still basically have them and keep some of the requirements etc, but will switch them around for both boys and girls and give them different names and how it is run or something like that.

This is a good move by the lds church. I am sure that the muslims will follow since their scouting program is very religious based. Maybe we will see the end of the boy scouts. But of course, this is all unfortunate. The scouting program for both girls and boys were a marvelous organization. But no longer.

Not true.  The Church maintained it's standards and kept the program as their original purpose intended with permission from BSA.  Now it is so politically correct and controversial, it is next to impossible to remain neutral, while retaining the virtuous aspects.

You can't maintain separate standards as a branch of a rotted out tree.  This what I predicted would happen when they let the homosexuals in.  The trunk rots outs, that's great we can be a pristine branch-but eventually the rot will spread to the entire tree and to the branch.

Of course this should have happened when they let in the homosexuals and transgenders, I think that's self-evident. It didn't happen b/c Monson was President and he was a lifetime Silver Beaver, steeped in scouting-no way he was going to have the Church split-just wasn't going to happen. I think it's self-evident that letting in girls was the last straw for the Church to split.  And if that is the cause, then why in the world would the Church develop a program wherein the boys and girls are the same?  That makes no sense.

I think the more liberal parts of the membership will be sorely disappointed when the new program comes out-my guess is that it will have separate but complimentary programs tailored for both boys and girls.  And yes the progressives are probably rejoicing too, this is what they have wanted for many, many years-to completely destroy one of the greatest youth organizations that teach moral standards and good old-fashioned american values.  Congratulations, you got what you wanted.

Wouldn't that be like letting girls into the scouting program?  Oh the horrors.

And people wonder why gays don't feel welcome in the Mormon church.  This is what I feel like every time I have attended the church in the past 10 years.  Evidently liberals are not all that welcomed as well.

It’ll be interesting to see. Too bad we have to wait so long. 😝

Thanks for the correction . I don’t know why I keep forgetting there’s no “i” in there.

IIRC the church was already allowing gays before this change just as long as they weren’t acting on it.

Ideally church members should be welcome to all of God’s children.  It’s too bad there are still plenty of jerks in the church.  Unfortunately people suck.

Also there is the reality that the values espoused by the church just make it difficult for some people to fit in apart from how they’re treated by individual church members.
