Yes.

I don't know that I've known any bishop called WHILE they were divorced.    But in the days of polygamy, many of the GA's and other leadership had one or more plural wives divorce them.

I don't know about bishops, but I can name a few prophets who were divorced. :)

I think divorce was viewed much differently in those days.

I had a good friend who was divorced who was called as a bishop.  I know nothing about his interview but he was called.

heck, my old stake president was divorced and I had a Bishop who was divorced. I know a guy who was serving as a Bishop who got divorced. In our stake the stake president is or was trying to call a divorced guy to be the Bishop of the YSA ward but got rejected due to some new policy that no divorced man will be called to serve as a Bishop of a YSA. Also apparently if you are divorced you either have to wait to 20 years after the divorce before being called as Bishop or wait the 20 years since your remarriage-I got all this from my stake clerk brother and he said he was told 'New First Presidency new policy'

I dunno, I can see some wisdom in it but the worst Bishops I have ever had weren't divorced

Yes we had a divorced and remarried bishop. But apparently you can't be a divorcee and be an ordinance worker in the temple.

I am not sure about that. I don't remember but I think my friend was a veil worker for a while before being called as bishop but not sure.

divorce has nothing to do with worthiness and there are folks who work in our local Temple that have been divorced, heck I know a guy who was in the Temple Presidency who molested his daughter and cheated on his wife-who complained but she got the "oh, he wouldn't do that he's a good man" line. I actually saw her at church here a few months ago, she was visiting her daughter in town, and was surprised she was still active!

That interesting. We have a sister in our ward that had served for many years as an ordinance worker while she was separated from her unfaithful husband. They finally got divorced and was told she could not serve for at least 5 years. She is currently not serving as an ordinance worker.

I guess there are different standards or situations but the two that I know of have been divorced and remarried so maybe that makes a difference? all I know is I am divorced and I am scott free from serving in all these types of callings!

1 Tim 3:

1This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 2A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) 6Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Pres. Kimball's brother and son were totally inactive, he shouldn't have been the Prophet according to this scripture, he couldn't control his own house! I had a Bishop that beat his kids to an inch of their lives, his 40 plus year old son still has scars on his back as I have seen them, I just wonder how far do we take that verse?

What an area you live in Duncan! How do you find out about all that is happening there?

Canada! oh people talk! I have been on our ward council continuously since 2006, you hear things!

If you think Duncan's area is weird, try Nigeria. I got an earful from a senior missionary there. Many in "Zion" have no clue what the worldwide Church is dealing with.

Yeah, pretty much. We have a lot of yahoos in the Church. I know of a bishop who left his wife to run off with the relief society president, a ward where the police had to come every other week on average to break up fights in sacrament meeting, a Stake President who rightly called one of his wards the "Fornicating Fifth Ward". I know this is a bad habit but looking at all the screw ups in the church makes me feel like I am doing pretty good.

Divorced men are generally not called as bishops but there are exceptions. Single men are generally not called either or allowed to continue if widowed or divorced but there are exceptions.

Actually it often has a lot to do with it.

well, maybe not on both parties but on one side or something-i.e if a woman is getting beat she isn't unworthy or if a wife is cheating on her hubbie he isn't unworthy

True, but in most cases divorce comes because both parties screwed up.

well, yeah the screw up came in not knowing about the person's behaviour prior to marriage or knew that they would be a tomcat
