Idk. I think he insinuated that he’s kind of asexual. Maybe he will not need as much physical intimacy as most people. Maybe he’ll be comfortable alone.

Maybe. But even asexual folks need nonsexual intimacy. That might be tough. But good for him for being open with who he is.

I met him once or twice several years ago when he stopped into our ward for sacrament meeting.

Very nice, gentle young man.

He also sang at one of our Stake youth events iirc.

My brother is asexual. He has no friends and seeks no friends. He lives for himself and is somehow incapable of thinking of others or how his actions effect other people. He just doesn't get it when it comes to interacting with other people. How he gets sexual release or intimacy I have no idea. He could know people for 30 years and have no idea really anything about them. He would say they are his friends even though he knows nothing about them, never does anything with them beyond church activities. You take him to get together and he's a wet blanket, just sits and it's awko taco night. He doesn't like change at all, he has a VERY rigid life, I can tell you where he is and what he is doing all day, where he sits for his lunch, what he will eat, when he takes work breaks, sometimes where he goes. He is a borderline hoarder, but I don't know if that fits into asexuality. Like, his stuff is his stuff and he keeps his stuff and if it's a buspass from March 1995 that he bought, he keeps it. Now, my sister and I have chucked out tons of his garbage without him knowing it but hey😜

Sounds kind of like autism spectrum.

He sounds like he might be on the spectrum?

Asexuality may be a part of what makes him naturally isolated, socially noninteractive, but it is unlikely the cause of it.  I think it would be counterproductive to assume this is typical of those who identify as asexual.

I think David will have a lot of support. Al Fox Carraway, the Mormon tattooed girl, that is popular with the younger LDS generation and travels, before covid, all around to speak at firesides etc, changed her profile on FB recently to reflect her feelings and had mostly good comments.

May be an image of one or more people, tattoo and text that says 'LGBTQIA+'

I would say so yes! he's like that Sheldon Cooper character, except there is no Amy Farrah-Fowler

his emotional maturity is about 11 ish. He has a Masters Degree, he is smart and does his job but doesn't go beyond what is asked of him, even in his callings. He does what is given to him, so he is a great clerk

As to BYU, serious universities do not have sports teams anyhow.  'Would be nice to see the Y drop the folderol, along with the Federal money.

However, the problem with that last is that the lawsuits will fail.  Too many religious schools in the USA would have their doctrines interfered with, and that interferes with the First Amendment.  The Supreme Court won't allow it.

Your narrative refers to the stark change the LDS Church made in polygamy when faced with disestablishment of the Church.  What you didn't note is that that was based on a wrong Supreme Court decision -- which would have disallowed same sex marriage.  You need to think through the actual legal arguments.

Yeah I agree, funny how things have changed but thank goodness the 19th century Supreme Court found the practice of polygamy unconstitutional. One wife is enough 🥴

To renounced revealed truth is to place oneself outside of the blessing of God. The Father loves all his children but He despises sin and can not look upon it with any degree of allowance. God is totally different from us and no effort to anthropomorphize Him will succeed in reconciling our fallen, broken sinful desires and nature with His eternal laws. The ONLY thing that makes the Church of Jesus Crist of Latter-day Saints different to all others are unique and exclusive claims to revealed truth. To acquiesce to political pressure on this issue or any other future "social" issue would be to renounce those truths and it would the end of it.

It is time for the American Church and its members to prove once and for all they will obey the laws of God or bow down to those of men. For the government will not stop to promote laws that clash with those of God. After all, this earth is satan's domain and in this battle we will lose but we will win the war at the end.

And given enough societal pressure, God will change his mind

Probably the same way other faithful single people do.

Yep, and remember that we make up the majority of Church members!

As long as Brother Archuleta remains true to his covenants (and it sounds like he intends to) and does not try to agitate in contravention of the word of God, he’ll be fine in the end.

No way to see inside his head. But viewed from where I stand, he has lived a rich and fulfilling life already.

And sex is not all there is to life.

This board is replete with all manner of nonsense, including bias and projection.  Any one of us might be guilty of such nonsense, without even realizing it.  We are prisoners of our own flawed understanding, and perhaps not self-reflective enough to make an independent evaluation of anything.  Is this the existential dilemma you point to?  Is any sort of accusation automatically justified, instead of coming to grips with the facts?  Are we doomed to nihilism?  Never able to make sense of anything?  Is the claim that one is merely repeating culture war slogans an adequate evaluation of the facts?  Are logic and reason useless?

If all of us are equally wrong all the time, does that bode well for a successful human future? Or does it even matter what we think?  Must we always come back to nihilism?  Well, if facts don't exist, and if everything is merely socially structured, then what is there to discuss?  The council of Athens did not appreciate Socratic dialogue, and so sentenced Socrates to death.

This heals my soul about the human condition.  What does the song say "Truth knows no regulation"  Brilliant post!  Thank You

That line is from “Eve of Destruction,” written by P. F. Sloan and recorded in 1966 by Barry McGuire.

Hey! I made the cut! ! ;)

I strongly recommend Eugene Fontinell's philosophy/ theology, one of my profs while I was there

Very applicable to the LDS view

Just added his Self, God, and Immortality: A Jamesian Investigation (Fordham University Press, 1986), to my master bibliography.  Thanks Mark.  :pirate:

It is not knee jerk. I have read what he has written and listened to what he had to say. He is wrong.

I have not read any of his books but I have watched and listened to some of his lectures and have watched several of the debates in which he has engaged. He uses facts and data to support his viewpoints and those with whom he has engaged in debates seem not to be able to refute him. Would you mind articulating just how you believe Dr. Peterson is wrong?

His book "Twelve Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos" has been very popular and has helped a lot of young men.

Thanks,

Glenn

I am not saying he's right or wrong but to me listening to him is like listening to Hugh Nibley, it's very hard to follow-i'd rather read what he has to say. On the other hand I forget how to spell his name, Slavoy Zizek? impossible as they say in Quebec or France!

One can have a rich and fulfilling life that is still difficult.

I don't think you should read anything into his sexual situation from a press release.  It is more likely that he is being intentionally vague.  Maybe he is still trying to figure all that out and how he is going to deal with it all.  Maybe he wants to ease into his public outing of how he feels about his sexuality.  There are lots of reasons why the press release is worded as it is.  Most of all, he probably needs us all to give him some personal space about his sexuality.
