Duncan Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 (edited) Other than where you live where would the next exciting Temple to be announced be? Now, that they have one in China, Rome, Ukraine, Hungary-places 30 years ago would seem beyond impossible to put a Temple in. I think Mongolia would be cool and I can't think of why they don't build another one in the UK, but beyond that where else? Edited April 6, 2020 by Duncan

Judd Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 Well, if you notice President Nelson’s mention in his April message of “a temple” in Jerusalem rather than “the temple” in Jerusalem, maybe that’s next. 3

Scott Lloyd Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 56 minutes ago, Rain said: It would be really cool to have one in Antarctica. Yes, “cool” in more than once sense. Are there any human inhabitants there other than scientists manning research stations?

Depending on the time of year there are 1000-5000 working with science and then approximately 40,000 tourists (2016). 1
JAHS Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 Considering how the church likes to design temples according the the local architecture, I wonder what a temple in Greenland would look like. 2

The Nehor Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 There are two nice plots in Missouri we could build some nice temples at. 4
RevTestament Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 I really look forward to the day when the prophesied temple in Independence is built. That will mean that the apostate branches have begun to see the error of their ways, and will be coming back to the Church. That will be a good day indeed.
InCognitus Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 6 hours ago, Rain said: It would be really cool to have one in Antarctica. You never know! Quote DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS - SECTION 122 The word of the Lord to Joseph Smith the Prophet, while a prisoner in the jail at Liberty, Missouri. 1 The ends of the earth shall inquire after thy name, and fools shall have thee in derision, and hell shall rage against thee; 2 While the pure in heart, and the wise, and the noble, and the virtuous, shall seek counsel, and authority, and blessings constantly from under thy hand. The gospel is being preached in Antarctica too! If you don't believe me, then read on! When I was a ward clerk back in 1993, one of the counselors in the bishopric shared the above verse as a spiritual thought, in connection with an article that appeared in the March 1993 (Vol. 183, No. 3) issue of National Geographic. On page 110 of that issue is an article titled, Reclaiming a Lost Antarctic Base, by Michael Parfit. The table of contents gives this synopsis of the article: "An eight-man expedition restores the first permanent U.S. station in Antarctica. Eight Base, neglected since 1948, now stands as an international historic monument". The article describes their recovery and restoration of the base, with photos documenting some of the things they found there. On page 115, there is a map showing the location of the site with the caption, "At world's end". Then there is this photograph and caption at the bottom of page 117: In case that's hard to see, that's a Joseph Smith Tells His Own Story pamphlet. So, as the bishopric member explained in his spiritual thought (somewhat tongue in cheek), Doctrine and Covenants Section 122 verse 1 is being fulfilled in ways nobody could ever imagine. And it's amazing to what ends (pun intended) the missionaries will go to preach the gospel! So a temple in Antarctica? Nah, they'd need a few more members there first. But maybe we have a good start. 3
Dan McClellan Posted April 7, 2020 Posted April 7, 2020 I have no doubt we'll be seeing more "remote" temples in the future. 1

It might be hard to reach from Antarctica due to a lack of transportation options, but I don't see any reason to not put a Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/2012/08/finding-faith-at-the-ends-of-the-earth?lang=eng 1

Space once the tourist industry grows and if they get to the point colonizing and placing longtime medical treatment facilities. Don't see it likely any time soon though.. Something revolutionary has to happen to drop costs.

Scopus (across a valley from the Temple Mount) couldn't be made into **the** temple at the appropriate time. Thus, I don't think the Dome of the Rock will need to be torn down, or Israeli Jews angered, by building a temple on the Temple Mount. In my book, the Jerusalem Center is "close enough." Maybe the temple site is already there.

There is little doubt that the Dome of the Rock and Al Aksa Mosque will be razed by the Jews at some point. Currently it is illegal to do so, but the Israelis have been steadily moving into more strict religious observance over the years, and the ultra-Orthodox have been gaining power. Part of that is their high birthrate. Eventually, the Knesset will pass a law permitting removal of religious rights of Muslims on the Temple Mount. That will be the result of, or the cause of a major crisis, and it is hard to see the actual circumstances from our current static vantage point. But it will take place. The Jews have already been outfitting and training their priests. Edited April 7, 2020 by Robert F. Smith 3
