New Message Board, Mormon Women Connect

Recommended Posts

Erin, the whole point is for women to have a place to talk about women's issues without men telling them how they're supposed to feel about it.  As a woman in the church, I feel loved, valued, don't have a problem not having the priesthood, etc., but I'm OK with the fact that some women feel hurt for various reasons.

Also, I have talked with Cal over the last decade and have had the opportunity to have lunch with Juliann on several occasions.  They are lovely women!

I will convey your concerns to my fellow moderators and offer my resignation.

I take from your response that you are not actually going to try and engage with what has been written for clarification after all?

Given Cal's behavior towards me, I find that hard to believe.

How about you write up how she should have said it so she can cut and paste it in and everyone will be happy.

I would probably just delete it and say something to the effect of, "This Board is about women and for women".  I  would get away from males are only bossy and dictatorial.  Those are male qualities; those are human qualities.  If something needs to be said that discourages male participation, then something like "Given that this is for women, men may join, but as observers only."  If wards are doing something positive, then women are quite capable of discussing those situation and there is no need for male input of any kind.  This ensures that the site is as safe as it can possibly be for women to talk to women.

Does that help?

That's it, Erin!  The nails are coming out.  I'm telling!  *pulls Erin's hair*

P.S. Erin, you are the one who initiated nastiness towards Cal.  Not the other way around.

But that might imply the idea that men are not welcomed at all.

"women are quite capable of discussing those situation and there is no need for male input of any kind."

We've actually discovered there is a lot of stuff we ourselves who have been talking about this for ages didn't know about how things can work and have been helped a lot by men who have taken the time to explain things…where there are options for women to participate and where there aren't, how they have helped make it work in their wards, etc.  In this kind of thing, learning by example will be paramount and seeing a lot of these kinds of examples will give women (and men) confidence to try them in their own wards.  So the more positive examples the better, no matter who they are from.

What about something like "while the board is primarily for promoting a sisterhood among female LDS both on this board and elsewhere, we recognize that in bringing women's voices more into the church culture, we can benefit from the input of men who are often more experienced in councils and other areas of leadership and who know what current policy and structure is and how it is implemented who are willing to share with us their insights in how women are active in fulfilling their callings in their wards and stakes"?

Like heck you will!

Erin has no idea what she's talking about.  You are exactly what that other board needs.  Anyone familiar with even a fraction of your posts and your posting style would know this.  :)

What can I say?  I am just an insincere, rotten to the core, morally corrupt hypocrite…..

Your monthly check is in the mail with a bonus this time because I know how painful it was for you to lie through your teeth like that.

I still remember that time we talked on the phone and you told me how normal I sounded.  Brings tears to my eyes.  "Normal"

I have a way with words….

I am sad to say the details of that moment are more victims of my drug addled brain…I did keep your number on my phone for several years until we replaced them.

It was all to manipulate you into becoming one of my groveling sycophants, of course.

Erin, give it a rest please.

nd whatever is wrong with the board, Cal did it! ( It isn't only my board. )

As for men, Nofear provides an excellent example of how to interact on a woman's board. If anyone has any questions about what is appropriate, go read his contributions.

A few of us have started a message board for and about women. http://www.mormonwomenconnect.com/

We are still working out the kinks, but I hope you will all take a look and tell me what you think.  It is intended to be a place where women can connect and come to understand each other in spite of differences.

And a big  :clapping: to Nemesis for his help.

It would be interesting to see what things women share and discuss where men can look on and participate. Men have no idea what we talk about when they are not around.

I'm just shaking my head.  How in the world did this turn ugly? I've been called to task by several on this thread (deservedly so) on many topics and I would never come to any of the conclusions that Erin has. To think that we've been invited to participate is kind of cool because I have respect for the originators (well, I don't know who Nemesis is...).

And if I join that other board will we be able to find out what UMW is/was?  (Was that the acronym?)  Man, imagine how Erin would feel about that! So sexist!

Juliann,

You might want to reconsider "men are very welcome" to this new board! :)

Ha!

Yeah, she really needs to ban me already from that board, before I write something really stupid.  :D

That would be nice, our spouses to get in on the action.  My husband is a member here, but he just wants to give people a hard time.  He doesn't really take this forum very seriously, like I do.  He isn't much of a reader or writer.  But he is one heck of a creative guy and hard worker.

Really?  Who is he?  So we can pester him about you!!!  :D

Not really!  Don't tell us!  The mystery needs to be maintained!!

I would but because he's said some dorky things I'm a little embarrassed. :)

Yes, blessed anonymity!  I am a little too free with my real identity and I wonder if this will come home to bite me some day.

Oh, well.

Invite her to post...

Unfortunately she is deceased now.

I would be curious to hear your opinion of this person:

Never heard of her...first gut instinct is she shouldn't be charging money to do what we should do for each other out of love...plus the whole guarantee we will change your life!

Some things I get charging for because people have to live, other stuff just seems wrong...or at least advertising it like this does.

Read some huffington's posts by her. I think she simplifies too much. And really? Women don't do stuff out of a sense of honour, duty or obligation but to keep someone from being mad?

I don't have a problem with her being very positive about men, I think everyone should be. And I think it is a very good idea to ask people why they did something if it bothers you or even if it doesn't.

Not that my male opinion may matter, but I think the exchange between Cal and Erin underscores the need for a board dedicated to women, though not for the reason suggested.

For many a millennium men and women have been somewhat forced familialy and societaly to work out their differences. And, while much progress has been made, and some progress is yet to be made in that regard, perhaps midst the long and highly publicized so-called battle between the sexes a much bigger relational war wages between members of the fairer sex, which remains generally un-addressed and about which many may be oblivious, be it between mothers and daughters or between women that are not blood relations.

So, I for one heartily encourage such a board, not so much as a safe place for women to be protected from men, but a viable place for women to work out their differences between each other.

And, no, I am not fond of cat fights. I truly believe that the Cal's and Erin's of the world can find ways to make peace and get along and enrich each others lives even given their differences.

Maybe, just maybe, they may learn something from men in the way they have learned to get along with women. Who knows?

Thanks, -Wade Englund-

I registered on the board, mainly because I did not want anyone to take the why me name. This happened only once on a different board and people wanted to know if it were me...and it wasn't. I wish the board great success in bringing together mormon women in an atmosphere that is gospel and lds woman friendly. It is a great idea to have such a board so that lds women can discuss topics close to their hearts in a faith promoting atmosphere.
