New Message Board, Mormon Women Connect

Well, it sounds delightful in theory, but after witnessing awyatt's treatment, it's going to need some practice.

But the forum is young. Things always need time.

Have you been over there to visit then?

Again, it is a board for women.  It is the men who are going to have to do the fitting in. Allen is one who can easily make the adjustment.

Men don't need that.

Why?  Could it possibly be a difference?

If we feel attacked, we just attack back.

I thought Sharon Eubanks talk at the Fair Conference was absolutely incredible, and I agreed with every single word.

Because of her position in the church, politically, I would like to see it as a safe " trial balloon" which they can easily charitably disclaim as being her own opinions, or on the other hand, use as a framework for seeking further direction from the Lord

I love the "Divine Pair" concept, and in fact have previously even posted similar comments myself.  I think it is the first doctrinally acceptable statement on these subjects which also includes the admonition that we can do better.

Heh, I don't think even Grasshopper could tread light enough for the eggshells there.

No, thanks. :air_kiss:

(Maybe that should be Nofear's new nickname, "Grasshopper")

I can only shake my head over comments like this. There is not only a fundamental lack of respect for women who aren't allowing you to dominate a designated space, the manner in which you have said that you will not comply is meant to diminish and demean rather than inform.  The blowing kiss is particularly distasteful and mocking...as intended. Your message is received loud and clear.  I would like to ask what you have gained with this behavior.  (Allen was troubled about a specific incident, he is not trying to demean and diminish.)

I think this is a great example of what Sis. Eubank meant as she said our practices don't always meet our doctrines. This is the improvement that needs to be made...how we talk to and about women.  There is no part of our doctrine or practice that allows for ridiculing anyone who tells someone to please step back.

And it's responses like this that make me shake my head.

.....I was attempting to "dominate a desigated space"?

.....I was attempting to "diminish and demean"?

What I saw in the incident with Allen was a case of over reaction and defensiveness. It signaled to me an environment that wasn't for me.

An invitation was made to join, I declined given what I had seen.

I declined in an intended bit of light hearted sarcasm. No intention to dominate a "designated space", or to "diminish or demean".

You tell people to please step back.  I was simply doing that, but you can't respect that, but instead unleashed a fury of judgement and indignation upon me.

Perhaps you Julian, need to lighten up. Perhaps you have some responsibility in the dialogue as well.

Ah, but your sarcasm was and is demeaning. I can't tread lightly enough not to offend a bunch of women at that board! The offense is the unspoken reasoning behind the "sarcasm". I think it speaks much more to the character of the individual making the claim than the recipients of the rebuff. Though, in irony you simply have reenforced the need of a place like Mormon Women Connect for women and by women without the disparage of overly-sensitive men. Anyway, I quite doubt the point of this thread is to chastise and chase away men. The ground rules are clear enough in the board guidelines. They aren't hard (and if one feels they are, the place probably isn't for such).

Though I've made some posts there I find the best reading is and will be from the women on the board and not by any means my own inputs, It is refreshing and delightful to see the community of sisters and their expressions to each other!

That you interpreted my statement in such a light also speaks to character.

Yes, in my opinion, there was demonstrated an over reaction and hyper-sensitivity expressed towards Allens comments. My lighthearted retort was in no way intented to demean "a bunch of women", as you put it.

Perhaps, but as you can see, intentions do not always translate.

I acknowledged and respected that......and got chastised for it.

Everyone needs to remember that for every board there is a core audience that it will cater to and for the rest of the posters they have are guests and should be on their best behavior in tone and so on.  Mormonwomenconnect.com is an important project that we should support.
