ERMD Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Not sure if this is church-wide or just a local thing. For the past couple of months, only one of the two temple videos is being shown. Has anyone else noticed this? Reason?

Has anyone else noticed this? Reason?Maybe someone received confirmation on whether Eve's hair was blond or brunette ???... in which case one version would be more historically accurate, ya know. 3
BCSpace Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I think it would be unwise to ascribe literal doctrine to the video. For example, the official doctrine (from SWK and published by the Church) regarding Eve being taken from Adam's rib is that it's figurative. 1
Saints Alive Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) Not sure if this is church-wide or just a local thing. For the past couple of months, only one of the two temple videos is being shown. Has anyone else noticed this? Reason?Never been a temple worker but I alway wondered how they choose which one to play. Maybe there is a new worker that doesn't know that there are two versions.Edit: I plan on attending a session tomorrow so maybe I will see if I can ask someone how they choose between the two. Tacenda Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) Not sure if this is church-wide or just a local thing. For the past couple of months, only one of the two temple videos is being shown. Has anyone else noticed this? Reason?I'll take a guess and say it has to do with one of the actors in it that is openly gay. There was a rumor to this affect awhile back. Hopefully I haven't crossed any line in saying this. The rumor was that they changed the actor not that they quit showing the movie but maybe that's what it took.ETA: I should say this could be a load of crap too! Edited January 11, 2013 by Tacenda
BlueDreams Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) Yep....been that way since....sheesh, at least a year. At least in the provo temple. At first I thought I was just getting lucky (I prefer the brunette video). But every time I've gone it's been like that. My guess is simple: It's easier to have one vid, you don't need two, the other one seemed older, and the blonde eve may have been considered a little too, uh, localized in features (blonde adult population ain't statistically high compared to global population).Any who's there's my useless speculationWith luv,BD Edited January 11, 2013 by BlueDreams
teddyaware Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) As far as Teceda's "rumor" is comcerned, a quick internet search, using logical search terms, will reveal that the rumor is based in fact. Though I don't know if the factual controversy behind this rumor has anything at all to do with why the staff at that particular temple continues to play the same movie. Doctrine 612 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Also there are more then two temple videos there are many, for people in japan they show asain actors, and ect...
Duncan Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I have a funny story told me by the man himself who was in one of the videos, but another story for another time!!
Hamba Tuhan Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 OK, I realise I'm not that observant, but I haven't noticed just one being used in these parts, so either we still have both, or ... I'm just not that observant.
Hamba Tuhan Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Also there are more then two temple videos there are many, for people in japan they show asain actors, and ect...Not true in my experience.
rongo Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Before the newer film was discontinued, the gay-activist actor's head was replaced with a photo-shopped Polynesian head. Anyone else notice that? Then, probably about a year ago, that film was discontinued altogether. It's everywhere, not just local, from what I can see.
rongo Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 If some temples are showing both, that means that it is not a worldwide policy. Why would many, then, only be showing one?

Calm Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 If some temples are showing both, that means that it is not a worldwide policy. Why would many, then, only be showing one?Maybe some patrons have made comments in some temples, but not in others.
BlueDreams Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) Also there are more then two temple videos there are many, for people in japan they show asain actors, and ect...Really? I always wondered about that and asked an international friend (can't remember which country). The person said it was all the same. With luv,BD Edited January 11, 2013 by BlueDreams
CV75 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) Not sure if this is church-wide or just a local thing. For the past couple of months, only one of the two temple videos is being shown. Has anyone else noticed this? Reason?I'll try to remember to double-check this weekend, as I asked once. If I recall correctly, it has to do with the difference in technology requirements between the two films and updated player/projection equipment. So different temples may be upgrading on a different schedule. Edited January 11, 2013 by CV75
lizrenowden Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 They were only playing one version in the London temple in December.
gurn Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 My wife is a temple worker. Our temple still uses both films and rotates them every two weeks.
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Maybe someone received confirmation on whether Eve's hair was blond or brunette ???... in which case one version would be more historically accurate, ya know. She is a redhead...everyone knows this; red like the Apple. BTW...Pa Pa has a new grandson, thanks to both Adam and Eve. This is why I love them so much!
The Nehor Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I'll try to remember to double-check this weekend, as I asked once. If I recall correctly, it has to do with the difference in technology requirements between the two films and updated player/projection equipment. So different temples may be upgrading on a different schedule.I would put money on this being the reason but if I did I would be sinning and could not go watch the movie anymore.
cdowis Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 (edited) My local temple president said that he was instructed to show only "Film A", with no explanation. One interesting story. Several decades ago the church was shipping the new films to Europe. The law required that it be reviewed, so the church came up with a solution -- it was shipped without the sound, and if you watch carefully, the film is careful on what it shows. canard78 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 My local temple president said that he was instructed to show only "Film A", with no explanation. One interesting story. The law required that it be reviewed, so the church came up with a solution -- it was shipped without the sound, and if you watch carefully, the film is careful on what it shows. On the plus side you have to be 18+ to see it, so even an 'Adult' rating wouldn't have been a problem.I wonder whether that's the reason for some of the parts you see in the 'live' endowment between characters being missed from the video.Personally I felt like I understood the endowment 100 times better when I saw it live at Salt Lake and later at Manti.
cinepro Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I think it would be unwise to ascribe literal doctrine to the video. For example, the official doctrine (from SWK and published by the Church) regarding Eve being taken from Adam's rib is that it's figurative.I've heard that's why there are two films, so people wouldn't get hung up on the specifics of the exact details of what was being shown but would instead focus on the principles. Also, to give people who go to lots of sessions a little bit of variety. 1
