RichYoungRuler Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 LDS, I'm a good guy and keep all of the commandments since my youth, and, well, I would like to be added as a beneficiary on your last will and testament. Here's my reasoning: Faith in Jesus Christ Baptized in water Keep the Word of Wisdom since my youth I love the savior and love my neighbor and myself Attend church every Sunday, faithfully read the scriptures, pray, tithe of all that I possess and doing all that I can possibly do Donated to the church bake sale Gave up eating potato chips during lent Never killed anyone (exception for military service) Any takers? If not, what would I need to do?

If not, what would I need to do? Sorry, the answer is no. What you would need to do, is be my spouse or biological child. Since I'm already married, and you're already born to someone else, so neither is in the cards. Now, if you'd be so kind as to peel the layers of meta off this little thought experiment of yours, and explain it to someone as dense as me, I'd appreciate it. If not, what would I need to do? You would need to either have been born into, or be adopted into, my family by following certain conditions, thus becoming my child and therefore being eligible to receive all that I have. Currently, I'm not looking to add to my family, but if you are asking how to join Christ's family, the conditions that Christ has set are: Faith in Him Repentance Baptism by one with authority to act in His name Receiving the Holy Ghost Continue to have faith in Him and repent when you mess up for the rest of your life. If you do that, then you become a son of Christ and then a joint-heir with Him in inheriting all that the Father has. 4
JLHPROF Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 So you're a rich young ruler. 1. You wouldn't happen to also be a Nigerian prince would you? 2. If you're rich I guarantee you there's nothing in my paltry "estate" that you'd need. 3
Popular Post mfbukowski Posted March 5, 2020 Popular Post Posted March 5, 2020 Obviously an analogy. So now he's going to kick into some Fundamentalist Evangelical Revival meeting about Grace versus works. Yawn. 6

If you do that, I'll consider sharing everything I have with you. I may not die but I may still share everything I have with you. Oh, and there is no "last" will and testament, since I may still declare my will and testify of what I know in the future, at any time I want to. Edited March 5, 2020 by Ahab
MustardSeed Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 Establish a relationship with the Lord. Keep His commandments - it won't be easy. Loving his children is not something you can do in your mind alone, as loving is a verb. Walk the talk. Repent, actually repent, regularly. Because you are human, and you will make mistakes that distance YOU from God. He is always there, regardless, because of His Grace. Then you can have my truck. 1

MustardSeed Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 By the way, I like to imagine that all the good people of the world, those who are catholic, unsure, members of our church, Jewish, what have you - when the time comes, those who desire goodness and truth will find it in The Lord in the end. "THE CHURCH" will be different than anything any of us know and we will all claim, "See, I was right!". Everyone wins. If you don't want to be baptized a member of our church, you do you. It will all work out. Keep on keeping His commandments. 1

If not, what would I need to do? Thank you for applying but you do not fit my requirements at this time. Pretty sure you are supposed to love your neighbor “as yourself”. Also we do not generally have bake sales. If I can adopt someone to my inheritance I want someone with a better killing record as well. I mean the primary point of an heir is to inherit my lands and titles and avenge my death if needed and you do not have the requisite experience to do the last one. Sadly your qualifications do not meet our needs at this time but we will keep your application in case our situation changes and we need a candidate with your qualifications. I wish you luck in the future in your money grubbing and facile theological comparison endeavors. Have a good day. 1
RichYoungRuler Posted March 5, 2020 Author Posted March 5, 2020 What? No takers? I'm doing all that I can do from my youth up. I'm keeping the commandments and faithful to my callings. Obviously, we all agree there is nothing I can do to obtain your earthly inheritance. So what makes mormons think Heavenly Father would be any different?

If no one wants you, that's when there is nothing you can do to obtain their inheritance. If they agree to it though, then you just have to do the things necessary to make it so. This analogy isn't really working for you. 6

So what makes mormons think Heavenly Father would be any different? Believing ain't gonna get you into my will either - so following your same nutty logic, "what makes Evangelicals think Heavenly Father would be any different?" But to answer your question more directly, we believe God is different because he is our Father and you have no relation to me, so dynamics are just a little different, wouldn't you say? Also, because he said so. Also because his ways are not our ways. Edited March 5, 2020 by pogi 1

Obviously, we all agree there is nothing I can do to obtain your earthly inheritance. So what makes mormons think Heavenly Father would be any different? Yeah. That was not nearly as subtle as you seemed to think it was. Okay, so if salvation principles are comparable between petitioning mortals and God then the following should work: ”Dear RichYoungRuler, I accept that I am a sinful being that needs to be cleansed. I accept your divine perfection and my fallen nature. Please take my sins away from me and redeem me through your grace. Amen.” There, now you are either responsible for my salvation or you have to put me in your will. You can do both if you prefer. Also, your attempt to mock our understanding of how redemption works is fundamentally flawed and incorrect. 2
