Is the Temple card worth it?

Just what he said, no one around to offer help if you have questions. I would have appreciated that so much. Maybe he didn't get the memo that we go to the temple to receive answers, but these answers come from ourselves through revelation from the spirit I guess.

Seems to me an awful lot of people who go through the temple miss that memo.  Along with many other aspects of the experience.  That's why it's such a blessing to be able to attend regularly.

Tacenda...

As I mentioned earlier here, and as an Ordinance Worker for six years, I say again... there are always  temple workers on duty in every part of the temple whose responsibility it is to be available to help patrons in any way possible, including answering questions themselves or getting the Matron or one of the temple presidency as required or desired.  I can't imagine why you and/or senjustindiaz thought there was "no one around" that you could approach to ask questions... every worker, whether just standing in areas such as the entry or the Celestial room, or performing the ordinances, is there to help patrons including answering their questions.  I don't know why you say you "guess" answers have to come from yourself...

I guess it takes someone to ask, because they don't go around offering help. But I get that they are there to help. Sometimes I felt like cattle, where we were not prodded but led everywhere we were to go. But I understand that after the whole process there probably would have been a chance for any questions.

Temple workers can't read minds. You do have to approach them.  But you are correct, questions should be handled before or after ordinances, not during.

I'm grateful for the Temple. I'm grateful for the covenants I make there, and how they strengthen my faith.  One of our prophets, possibly Joseph Smith, said in effect, they who read the Book of Mormon the most will love it the most.

My experience is that the same holds true for Temple attendance.  Performing sacred ordinances work for the dead is another evidence of God's mercy shown to all mankind, even those who have rejected the prophets.  That is my experience and testimony.  People are certainly free to think what they want.  As for me, I love the Temple.

Thanks Saint, wow that is quite a list, not sure anyone would be worthy according to that list, especially number 7: which states:

7. Do you earnestly strive to do your duty in the Church; to attend your sacrament, priesthood, and other meetings; and to obey the rules, laws, and commandments of the gospel?

I'm assuming the commands of the gospel include the 10 commandments?

Why not?

Filthy rags........your works are not impressive to God.

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

You do realize that the "filthy rag" is one that is used to clean up messes.

I'll be a filthy rag for Christ any day.

I watch Bishop Earl, his name, because he was a former Mormon bishop before he had a faith crisis and has since left the church. He has a show called ExMoromon Files. He interviews former members of the church who have turned to being Bible church goers. They stress on the Grace not being of their works and stress the cross, saying LDS have it all wrong. Sometimes I even get a little irritated with them doing this as if LDS don't understand it. I see that people on this board do seem to understand it and that these people being interviewed and Bishop Earl are black and white thinkers on this particular area. Or they put LDS all in a box, where I think many members here have that born again spirit or that feeling of being saved or feeling saved already and the only way is through Jesus and their works are in gratitude not just to get to heaven if this makes sense, if not, maybe someone on here will back me up.

Unfortunately Bishop Earl hangs out with that Doris Hanson.  Between them they get almost everything doctrinally wrong, and speak with such anger and derision, you wonder what spirit is working on them.

As for works versus grace.  Some works are required for salvation - repentance and acceptance of Christ.  After that grace is what saves us from the grave because all the works in the world cannot make us completely sinless.
The works we perform after being saved determine our role in Christ's kingdom.  More than just gratitude.

Show me your faith without works and I'll show you my faith by my works.  Just sayin'!

Show me your works without charity and I will show you my hope without faith.
