How do people get hired as Temple Recorders? I'd like to get a job like that.

it's a position to which one must be called

How then does one get called to such a position?

Talk to stake presidencies? Temple presidencies? I dont know many General Authoirities

I'm not trying to be difficult - just legitimately interested.

Not aware of any official process here, but I would talk to the temple presidency or your stake president. I have volunteered for most of my callings over the years when I see a big need (they needed an Akela once because no man was available right after school—in Canada it wasn’t women teaching cub scouts most of the time, they were actually canceling cub meetings until they could find a man to call, I have no experience in scouting so I wasn’t the best Akela, but I think the 11! boys had fun as my son provided insight on what they liked) or have a personal preference. Every time I moved into a new ward in my younger days, first thing I would do is get an appointment with the bishop and tell him I prefer Primary callings. Every time within a few months or less I was a primary teacher. When my health made getting to church inconsistent, I asked to be released and said being a ward librarian would be ideal as if I missed there would be others to cover, plus doing the activity night coverage was easy for me where it was hard for lots (I have problems with mornings and really get going in the evening).  My leaders every time expressed appreciation for my suggestions.  No doubt if I was pushy about it or was pushing for a presidency calling that would have been different.

My husband, silly man, has always wanted a calling in YM, but has never mentioned it.  Feels too awkward I guess or wants to serve where they need him.  He was always in the EQ or helping the bishop until the last decade where surprisingly he has been a primary teacher (loves it).  I have wondered if him being a college professor makes people think he doesn’t want to teach youth.

I say go for it.

I also don't know of any official process (referring to Calm's post), but making your desires known to the Stake President would likely be a good first step.  He might also be able to tell you the process on how that position is called.

Our temple District is like, iirc, like 30 stakes.

I don't think SP's know anything about it.

Following on from the previous comment, in smaller temples the recorder is likely one of the counsellors in the temple presidency.

In Australia for instance, the Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth temples have the 1st Counsellor as the Recorder. The Sydney and Brisbane temples have a separate recorder.

There may also be volunteer assistant recorders if the need is there.

I was talking about the Los Angeles temple which is large and has huge grounds.  That makes perfect sense for smaller temples.

this represents my experience of how it works.

Thank you, mfb -

I appreciate your response.

If I had delusions of grandeur which is likely - what path of service might you suggest for being a Temple Recorder at the Dubai Temple (not yet completed construction)?

Become a temple ordinance worker, - ask questions about how you fix faulty ordinances, if possible, get experience in business/accounting or classes, and you probably need to be fluent in Arabic.

My guess is that it will go to a former or present Stake President

Negotiations in Arabic might be fun. 🥺

But of course I really have no idea if I am right.  No idea!

Frankly and realistically the job might well be already taken, - also the church tends not pay high wages.

I don't want to be discouraging but...

Best wishes!

The church's goal with pay is to be in the middle of the pack.  I don't know how well this is done in practice.

The church does have a very good benefits package.
