He spoke at our stake conference within the last few years.   He was really good.   I am not overly surprised.

Normally done at conference but not always. President Gordon B. Hinckley, Elder Neal A. Maxwell and Elder Holland were called at a time other than conference, but then of course they were sustained at conference following the call

I am not surprised since it is several months until conference.

He is an adult convert, but he would have had enough opportunities to move up the calling ladder early on in his membership being outside of LDS dense areas. (He was 26 when baptized)

He appears to lack the higher education that most (all?) apostles have had these days, I believe. I don’t see any references to attending college, etc that there usually are. Also on wiki

The handbook allows for exceptions at the ward level.

"In some cases, a brother may need to be ordained an elder or high priest before he can be presented in stake conference. When this happens, he is presented in his ward sacrament meeting for sustaining. He is then presented in the next stake conference to ratify the ordination (adapting the process for sustaining, described above). This includes giving stake members an opportunity to sustain or oppose the action."

Following this logic, the Quorom of 12 probably sustained him when ordained.

Now I officially feel old.  An Apostle who is younger than I am.  Ugh….

Two weeks ago, I made some predictions to some close friends about who the next Apostle would be.  I used three criteria: foreign born, at least 10 years as a GA, and under the age of 65. Based on those criteria, I predicted that the next Apostle would be one of three individuals. Elder Kearon was on my short list.

I also correctly predicted Elders Wong and Soares to these same friends. They now think I have some sort of preeminent prognosticating prowess. I don't.

Excited to hear more from Elder Kearon (and his soothing accent) over the next several decades.
