Perhaps this in our dispensation because the Lord knew how ubiquitous the iniquitous substances would become. I can see why alcohol was (mostly) covered in the Word of Wisdom. Early 19th century Americans were basically almost all functional (and not so functional) alcoholics. Adults were, on average, drinking about two and a half times as much as people in America do today. That is also a bit of a misrepresentation since the average consumption rate is very skewed by the top 10% of drinkers. Going by the median they were drinking a lot more than two and a half times what we might think is ‘normal’. It has become more directly deadly to drink with the rise of cars. Getting drunk and riding your horse is less likely to kill people. The opioid drug crisis fits the Word of Wisdom reasoning of being a safeguard against ‘evil and designing’ men pretty perfectly. 2

Pork isn't evil/unclean. Eating a steak in July with a side of lobster violates the old law and the WoW. Neither are iniquitous items. Edited May 15, 2022 by JLHPROF 2
Popular Post strappinglad Posted May 15, 2022 Popular Post Posted May 15, 2022 Remember that story ( metaphorical I'm sure ) , about Israel and the snakes and Moses and the brass? serpent ? All the people had to do was look upon the raised serpent and be saved. Some would not even look. Let's guess why not. 1 . It is irrational . 2. No silly so-called prophet is going to tell me what to do . 3. It's a dumb rule. 4. We are not supposed to worship graven images 5. Other ( speculate ! ) 9

gopher Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 Has the church come out against dirty soda yet? I've seen several articles in the past week discussing its origin in Utah. Is it really a big deal there? I've never heard anyone mention it here on the other side of the country. https://www.today.com/food/trends/what-is-dirty-soda-rcna26689
