A Brief "How To" for Quoting and Answering Here

Recommended Posts

If you insert your cursor at the end of a paragraph, the first two returns will likely create a break.  Iow, it will create a break only at paragraph ends, so you have to create a new paragraph to make a break if your quote doesn’t already end at one.

Just in case it is easier to remember that way (it is for me, but perhaps my brain is weird).

You can also highlight a section of a post and then click the "Quote selection" tab that pops up at bottom of the highlighted piece (instead of using the "Quote" button at the bottom), as shown below:

But if you are quoting multiple pieces of a post, you need to go back and forth to the original post to highlight specific pieces, and that can get awkward depending on how many posts are in between the edit window and the post you are quoting.   But it works too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

On my phone I was always using quotation marks because that button was missing, but this works!

Bummer, some threads are closed to replies, so could not inquire about Davidic Type Servants. :unknw:

You can start your own thread in this forum as long as you don’t intend a debate.

Many can just be pasted in and it will be automatic. If not, try pasting into the add files box or the url into the other media option.  Both are at the bottom on the reply box.

Hopefully someone else knows how to describe it better.

If its a youtube link, you can just paste the link and the image will pull in automatically

Although the site software does give one the opportunity to leave it as a link.

Wow, had no clue, thanks Stargazer! Or maybe some might not want everyone to know this helpful youtube when they have to get responses that cut up their original posts, lol.

The potential to have your posts cut up and responded to with inter-linear commentary goes with the territory here. Those who don’t like it can always say so in a rejoinder.

Does this work with Facebook as well?

No idea. I spend little time on FB. It works with the forum software here, which is the Invision Community board software. There are a number of other fora which use it. E.g. the Wargaming Group's fora.

That's very helpful.

How do you also include a quote made by one person when you are in the midst of replying
to another person?

The easiest way is to click the quote button under each person’s post. It’ll populate both of f them into your post.
