Bob Crockett

It is being reported elsewhere that Bob Crockett passed away yesterday. Thought some of you would want to know.

Just the other day I heard him call in to Mormonism Live's show, unless it was a different Bob Crockett. He was sticking up for the church if I'm remembering right.

That was our Bob who called.  I really hope that there has been a mistake.  As a new missionary, Bob was my zone leader.

They announced this in Church today (he was in my Stake). They didn't say what the cause was, but I suspect I'll hear through the grapevine soon.

He was a marathon runner and cyclist, so he must have been terrifically fit.

Incredible!  He was a new missionary, yet he was your zone leader?   As the noted English Professor of the University of Southern Nowhar, Dr. Festus Doofus, Ph.D., noted, "Don't pangle your darticiples!"  (Yes, I know this is no laughing matter: Condolences to all of Brother Crockett's family, friends, and acquaintances.)

Bob and I had our differences, but I have long admired the article he wrote for the FARMS Review looking at the Mountain Meadows Massacre from the perspective of a trial attorney. It was a brilliant piece debunking some of the false assumptions and myths connected with that sorry chapter in Church history. 
 

Back when Bill Reel posted with some frequency on this board, he would let himself get triggered by Bob’s postings. It was rather entertaining at times.  
 

Added later: Here’s a link to Bob’s Mountain Meadows piece. It is a review of Will Bagley’s flawed book about the massacre, a book which was later upstaged by the more accurate and better-researched treatment by Turley, Walker and Leonard.

I will miss Bob’s messages of how bad the boards moderation is every time He was thread banned or suspend from the site.  RIP Bob.

Not yet. It just happened two days ago. Nothing in the local paper yet.

Do we know if that is how he died?  His last post on here was March 10 and he passed on March 19.  That seems like a really rapid decline.  If he was in the end stages of terminal cancer with just days left to live, I wouldn't expect to see that type of activity on a board like this.  But maybe this was a good distraction from his poor and declining health. 

You just never know what people you are communicating with on these forums are really going through.  A reminder for all of us to be more kind and civil.

I understand Bob had surgery in connection with his condition and experienced complications during that surgery.

I'll be honest. I often skim over posts by some of y'all. But not Bob. I always read what he had to say because it usually proved valuable to the discussion and often to me personally. He'll be missed.

Yes he called in on the show where they discussed the two Cumorah issues.  That was a number of weeks ago.

Even so one can be  struck with illness. I am pretty fit as a long distance cyclist. I ride over 5000 miles per year and climb over 300k feet each year.  But I recently got a prostate cancer diagnosis.  I have heard that Bob may have died of complications from a surgery related to some sort of cancer.  It is pretty sad.
