If you could build a Temple anywhere, where would you and why?

Fremont Island, UT (imagine being able to look west and east and see a Temple on both sides)

Dhofar, Oman - a contender for Nephi's Land Bountiful (though the Dubai Temple might be close enough :) )

Egypt (where Mary and Joseph stayed temporarily)

Mt. Horeb

Mt. Sinai

Along potential Jaredite trails (reverse of the Silk Road, Mongolia, northern China border)

And for good measure, I'd add a Temple on a large ship.

I'm tempted to say in my own city, but probably I'd put one in Java first. In the meantime, I'm grateful to have been able to help members in Indonesia access the blessings of the temple by travelling to Hong Kong.

The mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon east of Sandy, Utah, near the Granite Mountain Temple Quarry.

The Church already owns the land there, for the quarry is where the “temple granite” was obtained for construction of the Salt Lake Temple. A new temple could be built from the same material, and it wouldn’t have to be removed from the site.

In addition to that historical connection, there would be significance in the fact that just across the canyon road from the quarry are the Granite Mountain Storage Vaults, where the Church has stored millions of microfilmed genealogical records since the vaults were constructed in the mid-1960s.

Jerusalem, but there would have to be a relocation first .

None of what follows is meant to contend with you: You're one of my favorite posters on the Board, and if I have a choice between contending over a trifle or preserving brotherhood, I'll strive to preserve brotherhood every time. :friends:  This is an honest question: What would need to be relocated?  In recent months, Dan Peterson has been posting draft excerpts from his forthcoming and eagerly-awaited revision of Abraham Divided: a Latter-day Saint Perspective on the Middle East.  When the prospect of constructing a Temple on the Temple Mount came up, I pointed out that according to one source I have read (David J. Ridges, 65 Signs of the Times Leading up to the Second Coming, Springville UT: CFI (2009)) there is no scripture that says that the Temple at Jerusalem must be built precisely on the site that the Dome of the Rock occupies currently, and Brother Ridges says there is plenty of room for both.

Now, granted, the "take-no-prisoners" and "give-no-quarter" attitudes among the most militant of Jews who would love nothing better than to use the construction of the temple as an excuse to pulverize the Dome of the Rock, combined with corresponding attitudes of the militants on the other side of the question, who would gladly see every Jew wiped off of the face of the earth before they would see a Jewish Temple built anywhere near the Dome of the Rock, would have to be overcome first.  Certainly, that is, to put it mildly, no easy feat.  But Brother Peterson pointed out that Brother Ridges is right: Since the Temple Mount is 40 acres in size, there is plenty of room for both.

Now, who do you suppose might be excellent candidates for mediating any disputes between Jews and Muslims about a Jewish Temple being constructed on the Temple Mount, in the relative vicinity of the Dome of the Rock?  I don't know how this would come about, if at all, but I do know that the Lord works in mysterious ways.  And given the relationships that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had to forge and has had to continue to nurture over the years both to construct and to maintain the BYU Jerusalem Center (relationships with both Jews and Muslims), personally, I would nominate one or more members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for that delicate task.

Just sayin'! ;)

I don't disagree at all. I have read similar things about the temple mount. That said, I keep remembering the prophecy about the world uniting against Israel before the Second Coming and can think of no better excuse than Israel building a temple on temple mount.

Probably Mars. Or maybe an exoplanet like Proxima b.

You know, because who wouldn't want to live in a world where interstellar travel was a real thing. ;)

It already is, every time God visits us or sends someone from his presence.

A very interesting idea.  The ship could go to remote ports and serve members in surrounding areas too far from regular temples.  The advance schedule would be known and people could plan their excursions for endowments, marriage, and work for their ancestors.  A very interesting mission for the onboard temple workers, temple president, and crew.

What would you think about a mini-Temple (no font, only Sealing and Endowment rooms) on a plane?

Plenty of room but I imagine the First Pres. and Quorum of the Twelve don't want any national governments asking why are you acting like an off-shore bank account for your religious followers.

You go too far, Nuke.

I may have shared this before, but when my parents joined the church they were friends with an architect who worked for the church and reported that the church had already developed plans for single-ordinance temples. This would have been about 40+ years ago now, well before the most recent 'mini-temple' construction phase came about.

I've seen starship troopers, are we sure we want to risk it?

I've seen Ender's Game. We'll be fine. ;)

as an FYI where I live they are almost finished constructing a temple, the temple district is 1 stake and one district with 69 temple workers. Very small indeed! I figure if they can build one here the world is your oyster

Build temples in ourselves, we are temples of God. Or not.

Always a good thing.
