Popular Post The Nehor Posted November 3, 2020 Popular Post Posted November 3, 2020 (edited) There are worrying signs of turmoil in the next few days in the US. ATMs in some areas are having their "carry" reduced, national guard is on a higher state of readiness in a few states, and in some areas buildings are being secured. There have also been several incidents already. Please keep yourselves safe and be careful over the next few days. Edited November 3, 2020 by The Nehor 7
Rain Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 My son's mission has a number of things they have done to prepare just in case, including an early curfew and making sure they have enough supplies for the next week. 2
Popular Post Calm Posted November 3, 2020 Popular Post Posted November 3, 2020 May I just say people can be idiots. Not those who are trying to decrease chance of violence in case anyone thinks I am saying this is overreaction. It is those threatening I find tragic and idiotic as self destructive on several levels. 9
InCognitus Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 My wife just got back from Costco. She went today instead of on Saturday, since "Saturday is normally a busy day at Costco and people don't normally shop on Monday". Right. Obviously we both missed some big "THE WORLD ENDS ON NOVEMBER 3RD" sign of the times somewhere, because she said the people shopping there were acting crazy. The place was packed, the lines were long, and the people in line had carts of toilet paper and canned meat, and the employees were having trouble keeping the shelves stocked, and the line at the gas pumps went out of the parking lot. She needed to buy some things for a Relief Society feed the homeless project, but she wasn't able to get everything she needed. Should I be worried? I guess if the world ends tomorrow I can just eat the food that the Relief Society would be using to feed the hungry while everything blows up. Hmm... barbecue chicken. 2
Calm Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 (edited) I wonder if this was why my husband wasn’t happy about stopping by the pharmacy for a prescription....but it looks like that didn’t take long. Edited November 3, 2020 by Calm
mfbukowski Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 I don't want to make this political, but I think there will only be demonstrations if one candidate wins, who is the underdog. It's like an unspoken agreement that like it or not, the underdog is going to win. There's some interesting social psychology going on. In LA county Beverly Hills and other "ritzy" neighborhoods are totally boarding up all the store windows in town, expecting massive looting. Interesting 1
InCognitus Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Is this being fueled by the media somehow? I understand the need to take precautions against unruly demonstrations, but why the frenzy at the stores? I forgot to mention (in my "END OF THE WORLD" post above). After my wife told me about her Costco experience, I pulled up a local (Arizona) radio news website to try to find out what might be fueling the frenzy, and the first headline I noticed was this one: Arizona reports 666 new coronavirus cases, 1 additional death 666? Really? Today of all days? This can't be coincidental. 2

Interesting This is an interesting case of different realities for different political persuasions. Interesting social psychology indeed! In my "reality" (my world and friends), the only fear people have expressed is if the underdog loses and his followers and militias take to the streets. It's the exact opposite of what you are experiencing. Maybe you are right... TRVTH is relative to the mind that beholds it In any case, both political sides have created scenarios in their minds where a loss isn't a legitimate loss, but is somehow due to fraud or whatever. This is a sad. It's going to be a mess almost no matter what. I hope that whoever wins wins decisively, whoever that is, to make the mess less messy. Now, since I'm not LDS, I have stocked up on the Scotch of my choice (well, two really: Laphroig and Lagavulin 16). I'm ready to ride out the end of the world with a peaty smile! 7

Bob Crockett Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Just like a Lakers championship I plan to riot in the streets. To protest the idiot Biden winning or the thug Trump winning. 2
Freedom Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Well, my biggest concern for tomorrow is finding a report to send to an insurance adjustor that I misfiled and misnamed. I received my fourth reminder today which I ignored like I did the previous three. I don't even remember who created it so I can't to back and ask them to resend. Oh and I received my monthly email stat report which is SO interesting to review. 2
Storm Rider Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Neither side can see the position of the other side. Both sides project that the other one is evil, when both sides are horrible and both sides have planned for violence and fan the flames. There was a time when a free press required neutrality, but that has gone out the window with entertainment news media. What is saddest of all is that those running are the lowest common denominator - both stupid, both appear to want to have their mouth filled with both their feet. One at least appears coachable during the election cycle; of course, he was holed up in his basement for almost the entire time. And we are supposed to be a light on the hill for democracy? Could have fooled me. Our young adults haven't a clue about economic history or history in general. I guess education actually has value, but danged it requires that you read rather than be lead around by the nose. My wishes for the future? A neutral free press and shut down all the entertainment news channels if they cannot adapt with oversight to ensure they tow the neutrality line. Revamp all college/university education shutting down all pseudo academic fields - I had a good discussion with a retired Humanities professor from Yale - appoint individuals of his caliber to restore what once was a noble area of academics. Lastly, somehow we have to be able to put forth our brightest people to govern our country. I like the British model where leaders have to debate positions across the aisle. Though it can get ugly, stupid people are never able to withstand the onslaught of such aggressive debates on issues. Off the cuff musings and worth every penny you paid to read it. 3

My friend...Besides Tradition and the Mass of All Times, we share an appreciation for swamp Scotch! Lagavulin 16? Not everybody, or should I say...hardly anybody...is ready for that. We have to get together some day. Providence willing, something will bring me your way, or you mine. Bring on the smoke, and "peaty smile", as you say, however it works out. I don't even have any Highland stuff at this time. I have been saving up for some old The Dalmore for a happy occasion that keeps getting pushed back. (If I buy too early, it might not last for the occasion). I don't think I have missed my last chance. Mr. Happy thinks things will be okay. By the way, perhaps you saw, but I was pushing a podcast series by a few younger Society priests that talk among other things, about TRVTH, and whether it is relative to the mind that beholds it. They seem to be suggesting that the Crisis in the Church, if there is one, definitely has roots that go back before Vatican II and the Moody Blues. It is over in that thread that is about Pope Francis and Homosexual marriage/Civil Union. You might be interested. "Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colors from our sight, Red is gray, and yellow white, But we decide which is right, and which is an illusion." The battle lines are drawn. Aristotle and Aquinas vs. William of Ockham and Justin Hayward. (I have an inordinate attachment to the Moodys. Ora pro nobis.) 3DOP 5

Calm Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 I got my ballot today (yay), so drop box and not the Fairgrounds for voting tomorrow. What a relief. I do not think anyone will mug me while I am walking to Mapleton City Center. 1
MorningStar Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Thanks, Nehor. I'll be sure to stay away from all the burning Starbucks. 2

It seems like there can be issues regardless of outcome, be it protests or militia wannabe incidents or whatever else.

I don't really need to stock up being in the land of Scotch, but I do have plans for one on Thursday, from a bottle of Woodsman, after I have submitted an assessment and project for school. It's been difficult to concentrate or sleep, though

They made me pay up front. They keep sending or not sending and just tell me they are sending the claim through correctly again and again, but haven't. I've now reached my deductible and out of pocket max and they owe me money back. So if you get your email will you please go to this medical provider and see if you can get it to go trough in a couple of weeks too? If you don't get your email then kindly step away from my post so as not to give it "still waiting" vibes. 3

Really? Today of all days? This can't be coincidental. It is not just the media. Private companies are taking precautions. There is a security fence of some sort being put up around the White House and what early reports suggest is some kind of barricade around the Treasury building. The National Guard is on increased readiness in several states. There was a caravan of supporters for the other candidate that attacked a campaign bus here in Texas that could have ended in murder if it had gone differently. In Kansas three teens were shot over an altercation that seems to have involved election signage and possible attempts to attack someone with a car. There is a lot of tension that legal shenanigans could be used to overturn the election. There have already been some lawsuits trying to disqualify some early votes. There was one in my state that was one of the saddest attempts at legal reasoning I have ever seen. There are talks of specific industry and even general strikes if the election results are unjustly contested. Volunteer groups are ready to “fight” their opponents and there are rumors from the darker corners of the internet on planned attacks. I am not saying anything will happen. A lot of tension sometimes comes to nothing. Still, be careful and please, do not let it keep you from voting if you have not already. That is what the viler elements want to intimidate people not to do. 1

I wish we had laws that anyone caught interfering with or attacking someone over an election, before or after would lose all right to vote in the future, but I can see potential for unintended consequences.
Derl Sanderson Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 When members of the 10th Mountain Division moved into Italian towns after clearing them from German occupational troops during WWII, orders were given to soldiers and townspeople that anyone caught looting would be shot. There was no looting. Source: My father who served there. 3
