nuclearfuels Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 https://www.thesaurus.com/browse/hinge Within President Nelson's 2020 invitation, hinge point caught my eye. Heard from family (converts) in Utah that Joseph the Seer might appear at April's General Conference - not sure I'd go that far with my speculations... But I'm curious to know what some of you think might be coming down the pike? Few ideas of mine: 1. Missions exclusively served in Country of birth 2. Same length and age of missionary service for males and females 3. Portion of the sealed plates revealed* 4. Escalating military conflicts in the Middle East (Iran, Iraq, Jerusalem, etc.) leading eventually to Armageddon* 5. Updates to the marriage ordinance (Temple sealings; Bishops givne additional keys of marriage) 6. Optional invitation to move to UT^ 7. The Savior speaks at General Conference* * = not likely but shared because I wan't you all to feel welcome to share what your thoughts, expectations, theories are ^ = personally, this would try my faith a bit too much, so I'm hoping it doesn't happen 2
Nacho2dope Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 I think there is a big push for more member missionary work. Not sure what that will look like, but that is my guess. 2
Tacenda Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Wow, I don't see anything you said happening, minus the same length for sisters and elders. My guess: They'll concentrate on the anniversary of the FV. That's all I have.
JAHS Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 I vote for #8. None of the above. I don't think anything surprisingly new is going to be announced; just the location and topics of the conference focusing on the restoration. 4

President Nelson however really seems to be on some kind of fast track. I do feel if something momentous comes about it will be by an announcement. 1
Popular Post gopher Posted January 16, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 16, 2020 According to a GA who spoke in our stake last Sunday, last Thursday President Nelson told them at their meeting that he's having a hard time keeping up with the Lord. Maybe there is more to come this year. 6

(the term "last call" is said to give a last notice before a place actually closes for a time) People who are not members of the Church will also be given a last call and if they haven't joined the Church by the end of that time they will miss out on the chance to receive Celestial glory. More people will begin to use the term "Amen" in Church meetings, saying it out loud and with gusto, usually after someone says something they agree with. Some still say it today but it's vary rare and not usually said very loud now. More men will sport beards and mustaches, helping to dispel the notion that a man should be clean shaven in order to look good,. Something about jello. I'm not sure what exactly but my mind is fixated on the term jello. May be more or may be less. Still pondering the significance of this idea. Bringing bakery items from grocery stores to pot lucks will be strongly discouraged, in favor of more home-made baked items from "scratch". The idea that baked goods from grocery stores tastes good will be dispelled and laughed at out loud. I have more ideas but I'm getting the idea that some people are not ready to hear them, so maybe I'll be inspired to share more some other time, later. edited to fix typos. I think many would not enjoy that stipulation, but since no unclean thing can enter the kingdom of God, and since repentance is a requirement for those who accept the gospel and make the covenant they make at baptism, we'll need to start enforcing the rules.

Duncan Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 This is one of my favourite quotations from Pres. Kimball "The major strides which must be made by the Church will follow upon the major strides to be made by us as individuals. We have paused on some plateaus long enough. Let us resume our journey forward and upward. Let us quietly put an end to our reluctance to reach out to others—whether in our own families, wards, or neighborhoods. We have been diverted, at times, from fundamentals on which we must now focus in order to move forward as a person or as a people." April 1979 GC The way I read that is as many changes in the Church as there are or will be won't mean much if we don't decide to act on them we have preach my gospel, come follow me but what good are they if we don't read and study them? 2

The Nehor Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 5 hours ago, Metis_LDS said: Why is it that many people would enjoy something harsh like this??? They want the world to end because they want a better world. It could be argued that allowing this world to go on as long as it has was the harsh choice. I doubt such an announcement would be made in any case even if the world were about to end. When the Savior returns to usher in Terrestrial glory to the world he is going to tell those that made the Terrestrial cut but have not yet made and kept the covenants that lead to being exalted that they are all stuck in that state forever? Would make little sense to not burn them at His coming at that point. As to the idea that all must repent or be excommunicated I have no idea what that would even mean. Ahab, like the rest of the Sith, works in far too many absolutes. 19 minutes ago, Calm said: Someone has claimed to have what is referred to as the 116 lost pages (though not an accurate title according to him) and I have seen a few speculate these, if for real, might be released. I have even seen a few of the latter but they were (how do I put this nicely?) laughable frauds. 7 hours ago, nuclearfuels said: https://www.thesaurus.com/browse/hinge Within President Nelson's 2020 invitation, hinge point caught my eye. That was my brother-in-law's guess. I guessed Enoch so he could give us some practical pointers on building Zion as the one leader we know for sure succeeded at it. 1. Doubt it, more likely they will send more abroad and put members in charge of local missionary work where the church is established. 2. Possible, but I don't see that as a big thing unless it applies to someone specifically. 3. I doubt we have met the prereqs for getting the sealed portion as spelled out in the Book of Mormon but I would be excited to see it happen. 4. Maybe. Not something you usually announce in Conference though. 5. What? Do you mean make bishops sealers? Why? The Bishops do not have any keys of marriage now. It is only policy that they generally perform civil marriages now. In theory any minister in the church could which would mean most of the males in the church could if they got a license from the state and the church allowed it. 6. I do not think I am yet ready for that stiff of a trial of my faith. I hope not. 7. Very doubtful. I cannot see that happening until the Second Coming. My own speculations: 1: Women receiving the Priesthood (or a female equivalent) to increase the power of the Saints on the Earth and to prepare for trials ahead. 2: Unveil revelation from the early days of the Church held back for a time (would fit with the Restoration theme). 3: Doctrinal revelation about some previously unrevealed truths. 4. Stake Presidencies or Area Presidencies to receive again the instruction to recommend members for the Anointing. 5. A public revealing of the account of a First Vision type experience in our day where something is taught. In any case I am guessing that the promises President Nelson and the other apostles are making will go unfulfilled for those who are not prepared. 2

I'm hoping we're getting closer to more roles for women in leadership. I think a formal Priesthood ordination is still a ways off, baby steps. A formal apology for past racism I think would be really nice, hoping that happens. Move welcoming movement on LGBTQ issues 3

Something like: "Every member should raise the bar by lengthening their stride." That will totally work. I have a sneaking hunch that before April Conference rolls around, there will be a MAJOR full on multi-media blitz ad campaign to commemorate the FIRST VISION and the Restoration of the Kingdom of God to the Earth. The membership will be mobilized to go door to door, shout on street corners, give presentations in public parks, etc to invite the world to watch the proceedings of General Conference. With the emphasis on the following scriptures: Daniel 2: 34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. 35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth. Isaiah 2: 2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. 5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord. 2
Robert F. Smith Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Pres Nelson will do whatever the Lord tells him, which will not in any way reflect the ridiculous, off the wall ideas I see presented thus far. Nelson could come up on his own with a nice catch phrase for the Church: Arriba y adelante!! But all this speculation is mostly too mundane and uninspiring. Surely you guys have a more creative imagination than has been evinced thus far. 3
