Robert F. Smith Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 It might be interesting and worthwhile to have a guest speaker during April Conference, say Roman Catholic Bishop Robert Barron. Let him choose whatever topic he likes. 1

Nelson could come up on his own with a nice catch phrase for the Church: Arriba y adelante!! But all this speculation is mostly too mundane and uninspiring. Surely you guys have a more creative imagination than has been evinced thus far. I kept my nuttier ideas to myself to avoid ridicule.

He is considered a great talmudic scholar and a darn nice guy. While in Salt Lake, he could stay with the ultra-orthodox rabbi in town, and be assured of kosher meals. 1

It could be argued that allowing this world to go on as long as it has was the harsh choice. I doubt such an announcement would be made in any case even if the world were about to end. When the Savior returns to usher in Terrestrial glory to the world he is going to tell those that made the Terrestrial cut but have not yet made and kept the covenants that lead to being exalted that they are all stuck in that state forever? Would make little sense to not burn them at His coming at that point. As to the idea that all must repent or be excommunicated I have no idea what that would even mean. Ahab, like the rest of the Sith, works in far too many absolutes. I have been hearing this rumor for years along with stories of the translated Book of Joseph. I have even seen a few of the latter but they were (how do I put this nicely?) laughable frauds. As to Joseph appearing as much as I appreciate the idea I have my doubts. That was my brother-in-law's guess. I guessed Enoch so he could give us some practical pointers on building Zion as the one leader we know for sure succeeded at it. 1. Doubt it, more likely they will send more abroad and put members in charge of local missionary work where the church is established. 2. Possible, but I don't see that as a big thing unless it applies to someone specifically. 3. I doubt we have met the prereqs for getting the sealed portion as spelled out in the Book of Mormon but I would be excited to see it happen. 4. Maybe. Not something you usually announce in Conference though. 5. What? Do you mean make bishops sealers? Why? The Bishops do not have any keys of marriage now. It is only policy that they generally perform civil marriages now. In theory any minister in the church could which would mean most of the males in the church could if they got a license from the state and the church allowed it. 6. I do not think I am yet ready for that stiff of a trial of my faith. I hope not. 7. Very doubtful. I cannot see that happening until the Second Coming. My own speculations: 1: Women receiving the Priesthood (or a female equivalent) to increase the power of the Saints on the Earth and to prepare for trials ahead. 2: Unveil revelation from the early days of the Church held back for a time (would fit with the Restoration theme). 3: Doctrinal revelation about some previously unrevealed truths. 4. Stake Presidencies or Area Presidencies to receive again the instruction to recommend members for the Anointing. 5. A public revealing of the account of a First Vision type experience in our day where something is taught. In any case I am guessing that the promises President Nelson and the other apostles are making will go unfulfilled for those who are not prepared. I loved your response here...until the last statement humbled me. All too true, I'm afraid.

Heard from family (converts) in Utah that Joseph the Seer might appear at April's General Conference - not sure I'd go that far with my speculations... But I'm curious to know what some of you think might be coming down the pike? Few ideas of mine: 1. Missions exclusively served in Country of birth 2. Same length and age of missionary service for males and females 3. Portion of the sealed plates revealed* 4. Escalating military conflicts in the Middle East (Iran, Iraq, Jerusalem, etc.) leading eventually to Armageddon* 5. Updates to the marriage ordinance (Temple sealings; Bishops givne additional keys of marriage) 6. Optional invitation to move to UT^ 7. The Savior speaks at General Conference* * = not likely but shared because I wan't you all to feel welcome to share what your thoughts, expectations, theories are ^ = personally, this would try my faith a bit too much, so I'm hoping it doesn't happen I predict little to nothing other than a major emphasis on Joseph's vision and the restoration. Possible minor things that really don't matter much to almost all of humanity similar to the changes President Nelson has done so far.

President Nelson however really seems to be on some kind of fast track. I do feel if something momentous comes about it will be by an announcement. Well he has been waiting a long time to run the show and even if he is healthy he has limited time to make his mark. So it makes sense. Nothing earth shattering or even heaven opening with what he has done so for. Though I think Latter-day Saints are so desperate for something more than the routine and boring pablum that they get week after week, conference after conference and year after year that any change looks wondrous. Two hour meeting!!! HoooAAhhh! God has spoken!!!!! Don't use Mormon anymore....yipppeee yi yaaaa! Oh wait. All his predecessors must have been making Satan happy. I mean really. If this is revelation well I will pass. How about some information that will help humanity solve some of its major issues? But by the way since I am being rather sarcastic I will say I like the temple marriage change, witnesses, etc. Those are good things though I would not classify them as major revelations. Maybe a judgemental and unmerciful attitude makes someone "unclean" as well, whatever that means. My guess is if there is God he will be much more merciful than all the man made religions (which they are all) make him out to be.

We are the only ones that know that it is man-made because God is a Man. I suggest you think about how difficult it would be for you to communicate with an embryo. But those embryos are your children. Go ahead. Teach them something they will understand. Did they get it right? 2

We will share more about this soon, but you can start today by acting on the invitations I extended to you at last general conference to immerse yourself in the glorious light of the Restoration”. You are right it is already a big focus. 1
