The Assumption (Translation) of Mary is confirmed and added as a holy day.

August 15th!

This dogma is a great example of continuing revelation in the Catholic Church, by the way.

Do you have a “designated survivor”? What would happen if all of the apostles were killed?

I *think* the Presiding Bishop would take over. But he's French so....

This is the one I should've responded to ...oops

I don't know why we Latter-day Saints, being as talkative as we are about translated beings, would be credulous about the tradition of the Assumption of Mary (you know: the mother of the Son of God, the virgin deemed by God worthy enough to carry His Son)- even if we might not understand it in the EXACT same way.

My understanding is that one of the apostles always sits out conference. I don’t recall how they’re chosen.
President Nelso made a statement the other day, in light of the fact that he is approaching his 100th birthday, that due to the advancing ages of the participants, some speakers may give their talks from a seated position, or make a prerecorded talk. So, it seems that more than the “designated survivor” will be absent from the conference.

I'm sure there are going to be some disappointed attendees today.

A number of new temples.

A lot of talks similar to previous years.

Something highlighting what humanitarian aid the church has given.

The annual report from the audit committee.

Maybe three women will speak.

Depends on who you ask.

Most likely the Quorum of the Seventy would take over and select a new apostle who would be President of the Twelve and that new president would select new apostles who would then probably decide to recreate the First Presidency and fill out their numbers.

On the other hand it has been said that the keys to run the Church are held in trust by each of the apostles and not the seventy. If the keys are gone you need an angelic visit by resurrected beings. So Peter, James, and John if you want the traditional approach or Joseph Smith or one of his successors.

It has never happened before. It hinges on how some verses in the D&C are interpreted.

So Cain, How long can you tread water?

Yay 15 temples announced!

By per capita GDP:

Uturoa, French Polynesia 20000
Chihuahua, Mexico 10000
Florianópolis, Brazil 9000
Rosario, Argentina 10000
Edinburgh, Scotland 45000
Brisbane Australia South Area 55000
Victoria, British Columbia 50000
Yuma, Arizona 63540
Houston Texas South Area 63540
Des Moines, Iowa 63540
Cincinnati, Ohio 63540
Honolulu, Hawaii 63540
West Jordan, Utah 63540
Lehi, Utah 63540
Maracaibo, Venezuela 2400

4, maybe 5 of those 15 announced temples happening in countries where the tithe-paying local members couldn't have possibly hoped to fund their own temple.  Yay tithing!  Yay church reserves!  Holy crap is Venezuela poor. That's the place with historic hyperinflation and a never-seeming end of economic woes?  Glad to see the church willing to invest.

I was surprised that Lehi is getting one since they already have Mt. Timpanogas and them the new Orem temple right there too.

I saw someone else on facebook really pulling for a Spanish Fork temple. It does seem like the perfect place for another one.

Spanish Fork already has a Hari Krishna temple. The church donatedd $40,000 to it back in the day.

I have a friend who goes there often and I always thought it looked really cool.
