JAHS
I think it was quite significant that his last address to the would only about month ago was about the prophet Joseph Smith and the restoration. 3 Link to comment
Popular Post Rain
I'm grateful for the time I was able to spend with him. I lucked out being in Key Club with our advisor being a close connection to him. We were able to talk with him about what the church was doing about Ethiopia at the time. It opened up my eyes to the idea that money is needed in these circumstances, but how you go about using it is crucial - you can't just throw money to a cause. I wasn't well read in world events and talking with him also showed me that there is so much going on in the world that we don't hear about often. I appreciate that time he took with us. 10 Link to comment

He may or there were other more important things to deal with than whether Vice adequately conveyed all his private feelings and dealings on these matters. Without such assurance, as it stands now, it could have been all secondhand information from someone who maybe wasn't even well this whole time. Its aways too soon. We leave so many things unfinished in our lives. Edited November 13 by Pyreaux 1 Link to comment
LoudmouthMormon
Quote “I would not do this for money,” President Ballard said. “You could not hire me for money to do what I’m asked to do as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve. But for the Lord, it’s the greatest privilege that could ever be given to a man. We are witnesses of the reality of the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ.” https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/president-m-russell-ballard-dies 3 Link to comment

MiserereNobis
What are the rules of succession here? Since he was acting head of the quorum of the 12, does another apostle immediately become the acting head? Is it time-served based, like the prophet? 1 Link to comment

It's time based AFAIK so whoever is the next senior apostle in the group behind Oaks would be the next acting head. I think it would be Elder Holland but that's just off of the top of my head. 3 Link to comment

JustAnAustralian
Not surprising. When I saw him bear his testimony at conference I thought it sounded very much like a last testimony. Then all of his health issues started happening too. 3 Link to comment
Buckeye
Deleted. There will be time enough on other threads to speculate about succession. This one should remain focused on President Ballard. Edited November 13 by Buckeye 2 Link to comment
Tacenda
I'm sorry for Elder Ballard that this might taint his legacy. Hopefully not, if he did do wrong, he is human. And I hope and believe he was trying to help what he thought was a good cause. I read an article on KSL news, and he sure has a large posterity, even some grand grands! And I am sure he is reunited with his darling wife, and even his great great grandfather Hyrum! Today is a hard day for me. My mother-in-law who is also 95 fell down and hit her head in the middle of the night, this has happened before. And she isn't responding verbally to anyone now, she has shown decline in the past few weeks, but it is dramatic now. I just hate when loved ones pass away, and hope that Elder Ballard's family will have peace and comfort. I know coming from me, that might sound fake, but I truly do, a mistake if there was one, shouldn't encapsulate someone's life, especially if it was a mistake while trying to do good. Link to comment
