Tacenda Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 You got it rodheadlee, I swear I heard that Biden had that same thing. But right now I know several people going through these situations, God Bless!
Pyreaux Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 (edited) I was going to, but I didn't know what squamous cell carcinoma was, so you forced me to look it up and when pictures began to pop up, I was like, dagnabbit rodheadlee, you should just tell us it was a special type of skin cancer. Perhaps I will, just a little revenge first: Ah, the 1990s had good shows. Edited March 4, 2023 by Pyreaux 3
MustardSeed Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 Prayers for you. That’s scary. But many people get to the other side of cancer to tell the tale. I say you’ll be one. Blessings 3

There are three main types of skin cancer: Basal cell carcinoma - This is the most common form of skin cancer. It is generally easy to remove completely and it rarely spreads to other parts of the body. I've had this in four places (my forearm, my back in two places, and my shoulder). I know several other people who have had this as well. Advice to younger people: Protect yourself from the sun! (Old age brings greater wisdom in many ways. It's too bad we can't see the end from the beginning, but then, that would invalidate the great test of life!) Squamous cell carcinoma - This is the second most common form of skin cancer. It rarely spreads to other parts of the body, but if it does it can be life-threatening if left untreated. Melanoma - the most serious form of skin cancer. It is the most invasive and has the highest risk of death, but can be cured if caught early. The bottom line? Be Son worshipers, not sun worshipers. 3
rodheadlee Posted March 4, 2023 Author Posted March 4, 2023 I worked outside my whole life. Then we put 30,000 miles on a sailboat. Then we went water skiing a lot. When the Chernobyl accident happened we got purple splotches on our suntans. I used to just tan to a golden brown color. 4

I grew up in Arizona with lots of sun, river tubing trips, lake trips to water ski, and regular trips to Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point) Mexico, to play on the beach and in the ocean and go ocean fishing. 2
mfbukowski Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 Just saw this- prayers and more prayers. You are one of my buddies and I wish you the best and I am having similar problems- at the beach nearly every day of my teen-age summers. All my best, mi amigo! Love ya! 👍🏻 2
Pyreaux Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 My aunt on my dad's side died of melanoma 5 or so years ago, my dad said no one was really surprised because she was a frequent sunbather. My Germanic 7th-Gen Mormon father who never had more than a farmer's tan whose sister who had melanoma and a waspy blonde convert Mother whose brothers are redhaired, birthed 6 waspy blond children, I once looked exactly like the original Charlie Bucket... but even more blonde. We turned dirty blondes as adults, but some part of me will sunburn in an hour, my whole face in three hours. I just don't think the sun is for my people. I've seriously thought I should marry some sort of Latina so our prodigy might survive. "Me but more blonde?" 1
rodheadlee Posted March 4, 2023 Author Posted March 4, 2023 (edited) I'm a dirty blonde. Brown eyes. Thanks everyone! You cheer me up Edited March 4, 2023 by rodheadlee
manol Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 Joining in with your other brothers and sisters here in sending prayers. And... in my humble opinion, a "Zorro-like scar" is a feature, not a bug. I mean, with the "Zoro" reference you're already well on your way to inventing a much more interesting back-story for your scar, even if you never actually use it. I'm envisioning an epic tale wherein you and your first mate repel a boarding party, their cutlasses proving to be no match for your twirling winch-handles... 3

I was wrong, Pres Biden had Basil Cell Carcinoma and I think a pretty easy one to take care of. Edited March 5, 2023 by Tacenda
rpn Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 It it hasn't metastisized then it's a pretty excellent cure rate. But you won't be able to sit on your boat (or anywhere) without being covered with clothing and sunscreeen. 3

Calm Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 (edited) Big relief! On two counts…after you had posted before, I went to talk to my husband about his skin issue to double check his experience before posting it to reassure you no big deal. He had surgery on the back of his head two months ago or so to remove a bunch of cells gone (slightly) bad. I thought I had posted on this thread about this, but I got freaked out a bit after I talked to him, so it looks like I never hit send on that post. His scar was oozing a bit which made us rather worried even if he had been given an all clear with no cancer. But he got to the doctor Tuesday and it was just a small infection, so antibiotic cream and he’s good to go. So take good care of the stitches and don’t over stress them, so your healing goes smoothly. Edited March 16, 2023 by Calm 2
