Corona Letter Read in Sacrament

Recommended Posts

Posted

Our bishop sent out an email saying something similar about the Aaronic priesthood holders and preparing the sacrament, and he said to stay home if we or kids are sick.

Nothing about handing kids the bread and water but he did say that the nursery toys were going to be sanitized.

I heard the other day, or saw a demonstration, that our phones are dirtier than a toilet seat. So maybe keep them cleaner.

Wash your hands, cough in your elbow. Use hand sanitizer often.

Yup! I hate to see people cough in their hands. And what happens to fist bumps rather than shaking hands or better yet air hand shake! I still have people shaking my hand and I cringe inside.

My mom is fighting a life-threatening illness and came to church with me last week only to have two people coughing like crazy behind us. Frustrating! :(

Aw! Ya know, this makes me think that general conference may be good timing, helping people stay home and recoup, and also bringing the church home to those already confined for immune problems and sickness!

Depends on the phone and it depends on the toilet seat.  But generally this is true - most toilet seats are cleaned regularly, most cell phones are not.

I swabbed toilets at UVU and swabbed my cell phone back in my microbiology lab way back in the day - cell phone was way dirtier.

Tacenda... Just because someone tries to shake hands or reaches for yours doesn't mean you have to respond... with anything other than... Ooops... not shaking hands these days... Sorry... then smile... and say, Enjoy your day!

I did that with somebody once, someone standing near the doors of my local stake center who seemed to be in the role of greeting people, and he came looking for me later saying he wanted to give me another chance to shake his hand. I was with my wife and we were already seated in the chapel waiting for a stake conference to begin.  So, gulp, I shook his hand lest he might begin to berate me vocally for still not being willing to shake his hand.

I don't know what gets into people sometimes.  Some people seem to feel insulted if you do not shake their hand when they offer it to you.  I just didn't want to get any germs from him or possibly get him sick if I had any germs.

I think we all just need to be prepared to use some kind of wipes or lotion that kill viruses, if any are available.  Something we can carry around in our suit jacket pockets or in our wives purses, or our own purses if we are using one.

I was given a bottle of Purell which kills germs but I don't know how effective they would be against viruses.  I might have no choice but to go to a bathroom or kitchen to use some kind of soap when someone wants to shake my hand even if I don't want to with them.

Corona beer and the Corona virus.

If you drink enough Corona beer it will cure the virus... either that or you will no long be concerned about the issue. 😜

Here is a greeting which is common in China and India:

asian-chinese-girl-greeting-traditional-

and here is one common to China:

gesto-chino-del-saludo-de-la-mujer-en-ve

This last one you can also do Kung Fu style:

What I'd like is something that could be considered "extending the hand of fellowship" to someone but that wouldn't involve any actual touching.  Got any other ideas?

Not picking on you, but when people say this they don't realize that 1) most bacteria don't cause disease and 2) phones, keyboards, etc. usually don't have the disease causing bacteria. Toilets on the other hand do have the nastier bacteria. On the other hand, that doorknob that was used right after someone coughed into their hand can make the perfect item (fomite) to harbor an illness causing bacteria or virus, at least for a short period of time.

Sorry, I am a microbiolgist, worked for a short time as an epidemiologist, so this is when my nerdiness shines.

Not to be too contrary, but MRSA and other nasty buggies are fairly commonly found on cell phones - a huge concern for spreading nosocomial infections.

If you think about it, a fairly large percentage of the population harbor MRSA in their nares and an even larger percentage of people don’t sufficiently wash their hands after wiping - all these nasty buggies end up on phones where they are rarely washed.  Toilets, on the other hand, are washed daily in most public facilities.

So is wiping down phones with lens cleaning wipes sufficient or even useful in cleaning?  What is suggested besides throwing it in the wash or spraying with bathroom cleaner?

Pee on it.  Then wipe it down with a clean cloth.

You are supposed to bow when making the Kung Fu and Tai Chi greeting, and move your two hands forward slightly.

So the guy was a jerk... you are much nicer than I... Because I would have quietly but firmly asked him something like... "what is it you don't understand about I'm not shaking hands today"...   If he persisted, I would raise my voice just slightly and ask again...(standing, facing him, looking him in the eye, with hands on hips).  Most people here would do just what you did and shake hands so not to cause a disturbance but I don't think I could let such behavior pass...  And I would later advise the SP or Bishop... The fact that someone would come looking for me would be what would set me off....

Tell them YOU are sick, and don't want to pass it on to them, or touch elbows.

That is a way to be kinder.
