I'm so old that I remember when the preacher would lead us in a hymn. And ankles and wrists were covered.

One element I actually recognize can be changed.  I doubt very much it was a part of the endowment in Moses or Christ's day.  😉

Actually, interesting question for the room. If you believe the endowment is an eternal ordinance in any way and that Christ received his, do you believe Christ ever wore the temple robes?  (Allowing for fabric and manufacturing variations of course).

Would Christ have been allowed into the inner rooms of His temple ? Maybe He arranged for a ' special session ' .

I was told that Christ visited the Regina Temple and I thought what would he say to Regina? Get a life?! there's nothing going on in Regina!!!!

I keep reading this idea that it was to keep the robe from sliding off. If that was the case, shouldn’t the women have a corresponding tie from the veil to the robe? Because they don’t.

I’ve never heard anyone say that it was the case. It’s only what I’ve surmised over the years.

And I know next to nothing about what women wear for the temple ceremony.

Would it be too much to ask to have an ounce of air conditioning in the Temple? an ounce! sometimes it feels like a sauna🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

Well I guess you have to be in the in crowd.

That itself makes me positive that it is spurious. On the other hand of course everyone knows it if you're a 6 th generation member then you obviously get a much higher place in the Celestial Kingdom, even if you drink coffee occasionally.

Sounds like strictly Utah culture to me

Why is it whenever you hear or see something that annoys you you go off on  “Utah culture”? I think you have a complex.

I don’t know what JLHPROF is talking about either, and I’m from Utah with ancestors going back to the 1800s. I guess I missed the memo.

Every temple I’ve been in is air conditioned.

Oh come on.  You're better than that.

I respect your understanding of the temple and the garments.  You've made statements in the past I respect greatly on them.

While I didn't expect you to disagree with Church actions, I thought you would understand the meanings of the clothing.  The tie is definitely not meaningless.

Of course it is not meaningless.

But anything I learned I learned from the Lord not oral tradition.

But velcro and hooks have taken away a lot of that away anyway

Sorry if I was offensive.

I wonder if it's the elderly that work there that get colder than the younger crowd.

Well since you live at the North Pole, with all those permanently cold oldsters, it's more likely too much heat than not enough AC!

I was going to ask if anyone else is having trouble logging into the site, sounds like it is everyone. I haven't  been able to get in yet.

Thanks,

I can see in my mind's eye everyone jostling to be first in line for their Second Anointings.

In volume 12 of the Collected Works of Hugh Nibley you will find an article on "Sacred Vestments," which deals with the history of such things.

Another good source is online at https://ldstempleendowment.blogspot.com/2010/03/garments-veil-and-gammadia-markings_03.html

Virtually all the temple ordinances, paraphernalia, signs, and clothing familiar to us today was had anciently.  Both Bible and Book of Mormon contain the basics, but they can only be seen by very careful reading.

Well if the Lord was humble enough to be baptised.  I do not see him refusing to wear Temple robes when needed.

Our temple has been closed for a couple of weeks for cleaning. It is just as well because the temps here have been between - 20 and - 30 F . We will take any heat you can spare.

Odd this is dated April 2020.  Is this a spoiler?

Kind of.

It mentions the Veil. Good changes there too.

I always dislikes tying the hat to the robe as it would always pull when I moved my head so I never did, however some helpful brethren would usually do it for me.

When I was still a temple attending member, I would tie the cap to the robe before I put it on my head. I would tie it at the very end so it was loose and turning my head was not a problem.

Yeah, here we go again.  And yes, the ties were significant.  But nobody understands anything anymore.
