Yeah, here we go again.  And yes, the ties were significant.  But nobody understands anything anymore.

I don't think the Church is saying the tie was significant , it it was then they wouldn't get rid of it. Why it was put on in the first place is beyond me

Yes I had heard what the tie was called.  Sorry folks I will not state it online.

Technically, you wouldn't be revealing anything that is part of the temple ritual...

It is that I am not sure it is correct.  I only heard it once.  I have enough sins without spreading stuff that may not be right about Temple Clothing.

I'd ask if you were my husband, but he is too introverted to be here.

Well no I am not your husband but you did make me chuckle.

Perhaps there was once some symbolism in tying the cap to the robe, but no one knew what it was, so might as well remove it.

There is symbolism for it.  It is associated with features on both the robe and the cap.

Amazes me how some know and some don't despite going through the same experience.

And then the calls for references come...a improbable request on the endowment since the Church has never publicly explained any of these things.

There's literally no acceptable Church reference for the meaning of any part of the endowment beyond the vaguest allusions.

Yet the meanings remain, for those who know them and pass them down.  That's not speculation, that's oral history.

Many companies rebrand merchandise occasionally to boost profits with new sales. Ie. Think the various Utah Jazz Kits.

Will we still be able to wear our current temple clothing in the future? Or are we being forced to purchase new clothing?

Thank you Bluebell.  Good to hear we can still wear our current clothes.

For now.  But grateful for that though.

Since they said the new styles were just for comfort and ease, I can't imagine why they would care if people stuck with the old style.

Have you been able to look and see the changes yet?  I haven't been able to get on, the site's server was still overloaded the last time I checked.

I finally was able to log in but I see nothing new, I don't think we will until after March now that I think about it

I finally got on. The new stuff is under its own tab.

I thought it was to keep the robe from sliding off the shoulder — which has always been a problem for me.

It was never very effective at that, though — at least not for me.

Well I guess you have to be in the in crowd.

That itself makes me positive that it is spurious. On the other hand of course everyone knows it if you're a 6 th generation member then you obviously get a much higher place in the Celestial Kingdom, even if you drink coffee occasionally.

Sounds like strictly Utah culture to me

So much for the Mortar Board and tassel and switching sides, well known Masonic traditions

I guess we no longer graduate to the Celestial Kingdom.

I keep reading this idea that it was to keep the robe from sliding off. If that was the case, shouldn’t the women have a corresponding tie from the veil to the robe? Because they don’t.

You need to understand what the cap signifies and what the robe signifies to understand what the tie signifies.

It's not "spurious" speculation.  It's common sense.  And it actually makes perfect sense for them to remove it I guess.

Oh come on.  You're better than that.

I respect your understanding of the temple and the garments.  You've made statements in the past I respect greatly on them.

While I didn't expect you to disagree with Church actions, I thought you would understand the meanings of the clothing.  The tie is definitely not meaningless.

No, I agree with you that the tie was significant. I have some ideas about the symbolism that I won’t get into here. I know the article said these changes didn’t reflect changes in symbolism or doctrine, but it’s hard not to see the removal of that piece as significant.
