Even if there WERE remotes from Palymyra and Carthage, there would be some guy in SLC calling the shots. Like Eyewitness news saying "Now we go to Murray for a heart rending story about a cat up a tree! And stay tuned! Utah County is still there!" The broad cast "originates" wherever the director guy is sitting looking at monitors and pushing buttons is. 2
strappinglad Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 It has always been a particular burr in my blanket that someone didn't make the effort to record the exact time /place when the Melchizedek priesthood was restored. Just a thought , but maybe they want to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the first vision now because most of the first presidency and Q12 may not live to see the 200th anniversary of the organization of the Church in 2030. Some of us oldtimers here may not either so let's make the best of it. 1

The First Presidency in 2030 can decide what to celebrate then. Edited November 23, 2019 by ksfisher 1

Perhaps, just judgement altogether? I was merely asking questions, and giving an opinion, based on my love of General Conference. I would never presume to judge our President and Prophet, but musing and asking questions, is not being judgmental. Now if I said that “President Nelson is just grandstanding, or just shooting from the hip”, not only would that be judgmental, but on a site such as this a reason to be censored, and maybe called “gripping or complaining”. The sad thing, is that one discussion boards, someone could take that one sentence, put it into “quotes”, and make me seem like I am “rude and condescending”. I may be many things, but I pray my 13 year history here, might suggest that I am neither.

But what version will be used or explained if different than the one given in the BoM? Russell M. Nelson ✔@NelsonRussellM · Oct 6, 2019 #GeneralConference in April will commemorate the bicentennial of the First Vision. It will be different from any previous conference. Until then, I hope all will prepare for a unique conference that will commemorate the very foundations of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Edited November 23, 2019 by Tacenda

strappinglad Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 Don't be mean to Tacenda, she probably used a triple combo and thinks of it as one big book... Honestly, you know I like you Tacenda and enjoy your posts. We've had some good discussions over the years. But on the bad days the little digs you make against the Church or its beliefs can get to me. They aren't helpful. A sincere question or opinion or even an honest disagreement, even one against the Church, leads to better dialogue.

Avatar4321 Posted November 23, 2019 Author Posted November 23, 2019 We are being blessed with a special April conference, and yet rather than rejoice, there is so much murmurring. This shouldn't be. 4

Also, we do not even know where the LDS Church was first organized, April 6, 1830. The official version is that the organization took place at the Peter Whitmer farm in Fayette, NY ( https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/history/topics/founding-meeting-of-the-church-of-christ?lang=eng). However, all revelations issued that day are specifically from Manchester, NY, where the Church was organized at the home of Hyrum Smith. Actually, historian Mike Quinn provides some excellent arguments for the authenticity of the 1820 First Vision, but history is only written after the fact, and it can be very messy even under the best of circumstances. http://ldsfocuschrist2.wordpress.com/2011/02/24/2006-joseph-smiths-experience-of-a-methodist-camp-meeting-in-1820-d-michael-quinn/ (this is Quinn’s definitive revision of Dec 20, 2006) .
