Many LDS aren't ready to face the fact that there are different versions of the FV. The church has to spread these new narratives out and in small doses, IMO. BTW, I went to the new church museum last year or maybe even longer than that and sat on the bench and watched the new video of the FV but don't recall it mentioning the different versions, or it being a different version. Can you set me straight? I’ve already linked to the video on this thread. There’s a prologue that very explicitly states that there were at least nine different First Vision accounts and that the video draws from them all. I suggest you go to the link and watch the video again. Edited November 29, 2019 by Scott Lloyd 1

Because advertising it by announcing in the Church News (as well as ldsliving) and placing it prior to the widely advertised (from what I saw) Face to Face Event was a "small dose"? https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/church/news/church-releases-new-ask-of-god-video-depicting-first-vision?lang=eng Quote A stunning new depiction of the events in the Sacred Grove—titled Ask of God—Joseph Smith’s First Vision—premiered online March 4 preceding the live Face to Face broadcast with President Henry B. Erying and Elder Jeffrey R. Holland in historic Palmyra, New York. While most movies portraying the 14-year-old Joseph Smith’s 1820 experience use the 1838 Pearl of Great Price account, this new film draws from all nine existing accounts of the First Vision recorded during Joseph Smith’s lifetime to provide a rich and moving perspective on the event that opened this dispensation. A video expected to become the top reference portrayal for the FV isn't something being hidden or hoped to sneak by unnoticed: http://www.ldsliving.com/Church-Premieres-New-Video-of-Joseph-Smith-s-First-Vision/s/84680 Quote “Great effort has been taken to portray as accurately as our knowledge of history permits. We hope that this will become the reference portrayal of the First Vision in classrooms, homes, and personal study,” said John Heath, a communications manager in the Church History Department, according tolds.org. I believe that to be a false impression. My hunch is that the vast majority of Church members are like me, inclined to take it in stride. 5

It seems that the main ones being noted are the four vision accounts, becaues the other 5 are second hand accounts. I don't take the Church News, and didn't see the ldsliving report. You don’t have to “take” the Church News to read it. Its content, as with that of LDS Living, is accessible freely on line. And many of its articles have been repurposed on the Church website. 1
