Maybe you could give them something to do while you are watching. Quiet play activities like coloring, drawing, puzzles etc. My kids are all in their 30s and 40s. But they do need some special entertainment to keep them attentive now and then. Edited November 25, 2019 by Bernard Gui 1

I must have misunderstood this..... I just think it axiomatic that the Brethren would not care that, in the confines of the home, all ages feel free to view the transmission. I typically watch the women’s session at home with my wife and daughter (or by myself if they are at the stake center). And my wife generally views the priesthood session at our home. It has never occurred to me that we are violating some sort of protocol thereby. But I’m open to correction on this if you can show me some written directive that children under age 11 are forbidden to watch the evening session at home this April. When I was working in the West Indies, heaps of branch members said they would see me at the women's session of conference. I was confused ... and pointed out the obvious: that I am not a woman. Yes, they all said, but why wouldn't you want to hear the prophets speak? So, for the first time in my life, I attended the women's session in our little branch chapel. Everyone was there: men, women and children. The following Saturday, we repeated the process with all three sessions of conference, including the priesthood session. Because why wouldn't one want to hear the prophets speak? 6

I don’t know that he should feel obliged to do so or that there is any authoritative requirement to that effect in the Church. And if you really do feel you would be precluded from enjoying the session at home because of interruptions from the children and what not, I should think this would be an instance when making an exception to the routine would be justifiable. Generally speaking, I just don’t see the need for babysitters to be a viable complaint for which a suitable work-around could not be devised. I won't ask him to not go and do what he feels is right. I don't have any babysitters that wont be attending. It's honestly okay and I will be fine with my babies at home. 3

Just trying to clear up some confusion about invitations to a meeting for folks 11 years old and over, but it’s fine to stay home and watch it with the kids, or you probably won’t be turned away if you have to bring them along. Or will you? I don’t know. Not exactly sure what that all means, or how that makes this meeting unique. Seems like it would be unique if kids weren’t there, but that’s ok. We can talk about it after it happens. In any case, it will be extraordinary and we’ll all enjoy it. It would seem that emojis really are a necessity nowadays. Edited November 25, 2019 by Bernard Gui

Of course families can view it together if they wish just like any other GC session, but there’s nothing in the Newsroom rollout or the First Presidency letter that refers to watching it as a family. On the contrary, it is called “unique” precisely because only a certain age group is invited to attend. When we have stake adult conference meetings, the topics are usually a bit more age sensitive than regular sessions. Folks don’t normally drag the kids along. But who would want to pass up another opportunity to hear the words o the stake president or a visiting authority? In the past..... Quote General conferences of the Church of Jesus Christ are held every six months on the first weekends of April and October. Each conference features sermons and music during the five sessions—three on Saturday and two on Sunday. Since April 2018, the Saturday evening session has alternated between the Priesthood Session (April) for all holders of priesthood ages 12 and older and the Women’s Session (October) for all women ages 8 and up. The other four sessions (Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon) are for all members of the Church and those interested in the faith. This time, Quote Today President Nelson and his counselors in the First Presidency announced that the April 2020 general conference will be unique in another way: The Saturday evening session will be for all Latter-day Saints ages 11 and up. “Rather than having the Priesthood session or the General Women’s Session, the Saturday evening session will be held for all members of the Young Women and Relief Society, and all holders of the Aaronic Priesthood and the Melchizedek Priesthood,” the First Presidency says in a letter. Consider the fact that the priesthood session has always been meant for priesthood-age boys and men. And the women’s session has had an age requirement as well. There has been no change to this pattern. The only difference is that, for this time only, males and females are being combined.

The missionaries were confused. A new first vision video? You know the one Elder Holland introduced last year? silence. The sister missionaries had never heard about this video. One sister was 6mo from completing her mission the other about 3mo out from the MTC. Neither one had heard of this video. So I said well, let's pull the video and watch it. So we watched the video together. Sisters were visibly uncomfortable and in unison said that we should absolutely not watch this at the baptism - that it was "way too advanced" church history according to their words. The sisters also expressed confusion that there were other accounts of the first vision. The Senior companion sister was red-faced frantic and a bit upset that she had never heard of any other first vision account. When our current stake president had a stake seminary kick-off fireside, he boomed with his big voice - just his style, "Did you know that there are multiple accounts of the first vision?" "Read all of them! - they are wonderful!" Does anyone know if things have changed officially for the full-time missionaries? Are they still not allowed to show this new amalgamation first vision account video? 1

This was <June 2018 - before the updated 2018 Preach My gospel where they added to Lesson 1: "We have four different accounts of what followed, recorded by him or scribes under his direction (see Gospel Topics essay, “First Vision Accounts”). In one account, he described his experience:" Before June 2018 no lesson material in the entire Preach my gospel acknowledged the existence of multiple accounts of the first vision or encouraged reading gospel topic essays in preparation for missionary work. If a missionary introduced topics about multiple accounts of the first vision, seer stones, joseph smith polygamy, book of abraham issues in lessons or baptismal services would they be blessed and given high fives by mission leadership?

Because it is shorter and more concise (between four and five minutes), my guess is that it has been deemed more suitable for the purpose that the website appears to have, which is to give a very brief introduction to the Church and its teachings. Bear in mind that the new video was originally produced for a very specific purpose: to be the basis for a new 3-D experience at the Church History Museum. Those who have encountered the presentation at the museum will probably agree that seeing it on a flat screen does not do it justice. And I don’t believe it was necessarily intended to supersede older videos. Edited November 29, 2019 by Scott Lloyd 2

It might be more far reaching than just the missionaries. Many LDS aren't ready to face the fact that there are different versions of the FV. The church has to spread these new narratives out and in small doses, IMO. BTW, I went to the new church museum last year or maybe even longer than that and sat on the bench and watched the new video of the FV but don't recall it mentioning the different versions, or it being a different version.
