Scott Lloyd Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 I predict that in common usage, the "at Temple Square" part is going to get dropped off, even if people get used to not putting "Mormon" on the name. Too wordy. It will just be "Tabernacle Choir," which is what we are already used to calling it.

Think pirates The iconic Mormon Tabernacle Choir name won't disappear completely with Friday's announcement that the performing group will now be known as The Tabernacle Choir on Temple Square. The reason? Music piracy. Choir president Ron Jarrett told the Deseret News that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir name will continue to appear in certain longtime licensing agreements, and the reason is to preserve ownership of it. Basically, it's an issue of use it or lose it. "We need to maintain (property rights to the name)," Jarrett said. "We don't want someone to pick it up because we're not using it. We have a lot of older pieces in our history that are under that (name), so we have to maintain that. We have to keep that so that no one else can pirate it or take it away from us. So we'll renew licenses and keep all that, but we won't use that term any longer." 2

I’m pretty sure the legal name of the church is the Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Not that that matters regarding the doctrinal name of the church or how we describes ourselves to the world. 2

But there were many years when the choir's recordings were released by commercial labels. I have to think those legacy products won't change any time soon, if, for no other reason than the choir doesn't control what the commercial label does with the property.

Well Scott maybe for once you should challange your paradigms. It is silly. And stupid. And if this is all the newly "anointed prophet" has to offer then oh well, it is silly. With all that is going on in the world if this is all the Mormon (uhh oh I am sinning mow by using Mormon) has to offer I feel quite well in consluding LDS prophets and apostles have little to offer us beyond what the common human can conclude on religious issues. 1
