Elder’s Quorum Presidencies are going to be busier. They will now be more on par with the Relief Society Presidency in being key to making the ward work.

Missed the talk but I'll catch it soon. Sounds like President Nelson is ranging quite a bit this year

Just getting started. Just wait until October. :vader:

We will be sending missionaries into mainland China and preparing to build Zion here

I hope everyone keeps in mind that the Church has always asked home and visiting teachers to minister to the needs of the individuals that they had assignments for. I'm seeing some people online unfortunately say things like, "Finally the Church realizes that merely reading a message to someone and saying a prayer and leaving is not very effective."

I usually pray, chat, and teach as the spirit directs. Been doing that for some time now. I never give a canned lesson. I sometimes would use a few talking points from the Pres. message, but that is it. Not saying I do it the best way, but this change seems like no change to me. jfyi

True. Just like how President Benson said that any man who lived the gospel before Family Home Evening was announced as an official Church program would have already been doing something like Family Home Evening anyways.

Enjoying Elder Holland's explanations! "If I honk, you've been home taught." No formal reporting except number of interviews of leaders with ministers....an invitation to care for one another in a bold new way....motivated by the pure love of Christ.

And a tip of the hat to block, ward, home, and visiting teachers of the past.

I remember ward teachers, but the Brigham Young-era "block teachers" were a bit before my time.

Perhaps my favorite part:

Quote

Sister Bingham explained that ministering may include Laurels and Mia Maids as companions to Relief Society sisters, and priests and teachers continue to serve as ministering companions to Melchizedek Priesthood holders.

“Youth can share their unique gifts and grow spiritually as they serve alongside adults in the work of salvation,” she said. Involving youth also increases the number of members caring for others, and helps the youth “better prepare to fulfill their roles as leaders in the Church and community and as contributing partners in their families.”

I have long tried to figure out more ways 2 get the young women more directly involved in service opportunities in the ward. This is a very concrete and very direct and very beneficial means of doing that.

Remember the tear-off message tags?

True. Like I said on the leaks thread, this really isn't different than has been talked about for years - except for the reporting part. I'm just hoping the new language helps people to see a difference for those who have always thought about it as only a visit with a message. I know that what had been "changed" so far with VTing helped my companion see a difference where she didn't before.

My daughter cried over this. She is no longer a YW, but has always missed this as she sees her brother go out with her dad.

Very clearly.

I inherited our big, upright piano after my parents died. One day in the 1990s, I took the front off the piano to look inside. There, I found one of those old tear-off ward teacher messages that had slipped inside the piano where the strings are, perhaps 30 to 40 years earlier.

That’s fantastic! Do you remember what the message was?

Consistent home teaching interviews by quorum leaders were always the key to better home teaching. I think this new direction recognizes that key step.

Those PPI's have always been a massive struggle. I've rarely seen them done consistently but as the only reportable activity for ministering, they will be very important. Will the EQ Presidency be required to do those PPI's or will "ministering supervisors" be able to assist with the quarterly interviews? If it's all on the EQ Presidency that will take a massive amount of time for those men. I don't recall the last time I've had an interview like this. The only reason my HPGL knew my HT #'s is because I'd text him monthly. I'm wondering if those interviews are a reasonable expectation based on the size of these groups.

I've wondered the same thing as well, though RS has always had the same amount of women in each ward usually or probably more due to women living longer so it seems it shouldn't be much more for the men to do it as well. I haven't read the instructions sent out yet so it would make a difference of if they were expected to do this monthly, quarterly, yearly etc.

It will definitely depend on ward size as well. My ward is getting smaller and smaller. We are about 370 now with a good portion inactive or no longer living here, but still on rolls and quite a few widows. In my last ward we had a huge amount of high priests (retired condos in Utah - before the stake realigned boundaries it was the largest HPG in the world) so I'm sure the EQP would be much busier there with interviews there.

I tried when I visit taught to be that. But some ladies in just don't want visits or interactions. It's like they have to put up with us. :(

I know this sounds or is cynical to say but I think it will stay the same but they'll have to report in an interview every three months instead of once a month. I hope I'm wrong though and it will be a wonderful thing.
