Demoting My Threads.

I don't know why they do it, or who does it, but it feels like they think I am too stupid to post here. I am sorry they feel that way. Almost every thread I put in discussion, gets demoted to the social area. It makes me feel awful. Do you not want me here?  Or are you just arrogant?

It is not a demotion. The General Discussions forum has to relate substantially to the LDS faith or something related to it. Many of your threads have nothing to do with the LDS faith or any other. This is the forum for threads less related to the LDS faith. If you posted threads about the Church specifically it might be moved out of this forum.

Well, if the United Order is not about the LDS then I do not know what it is about. Some people are just extremely exuberant about exercising their power to be bullies.

It was a personal thread about your own experiences with a bit about the United Order pasted on.

As to your insults, yes, I am sure the mods sit back cackling with glee when they move threads. If they were bullies and wanted to have a good laugh they would delete your threads and ban you. They don't.

I do not believe that. I think some of you are an arrogant lot.

I don't think one forum is better than another - Social Hall is supposed to be for more personal stuff and there's no debate allowed in there.  General Discussion has a lot of debate and when the topic is mostly about yourself, you can make yourself a target for unkind comments in there.  I don't read most threads anymore here, but I remember things getting really, really ugly here.  I've had threads moved too.  :)

I think I've had threads moved to SH, too. I do believe that the mods didn't do this to attack me; I do believe that my own assessment of the thread was different from theirs. This site is owned and paid for by one of the mods; he (or she?) establishes the rules and enforces them. I am grateful for the sacrifice of money and time that the site owner makes so I can post my brain-addled opinions here. I've had threads closed, too, and while I didn't like this, and cried my eyes out a couple of times, in the end I just quit my pity-party and posted some more foolishness.

I've also been beaten up by some of the posters here. In some cases they were justified perhaps, and in others they were ignorant lummoxes to think that something I wrote was wrong -- that is to say, most of the time.

Ellen you need to stop taking these things so personally.

Now, according to board rules, personal threads aren't really allowed. This is just such a thread. You should not be offended if it gets closed. And if it gets closed, it isn't because YOU started it, but because the rules are the rules, after all.

The other rule that this thread breaks is questioning moderator decisions. It's kind of like umpires in baseball -- umpire decisions are final. So that's another reason this thread might be closed. Not because YOU started it, but because of the rules, which are supposed to apply to all.

One final thing: my comments here might be taken as "board nannying", which is translated as "impersonating a moderator", and since I think this is also against the rules, I might get banned from the thread. Not because the mods don't like me, but because I am breaking a rule.

Thumbs up Stargazer! Ellen, I think the Mods like you! You're never banned from threads, moved but not banned, from what I've seen. I'm banned quite a lot, deservedly, most of the time. When you are on "limited" like I am, come talk to me. See you in Social Hall! ;)

It's not possible to have a thread demoted, because one forum is not superior to another.

Each forum serves a different purpose though, and if you post a thread in a forum that does not fit it's purpose, it will be moved, as often happens with a lot of different threads.

General Discussion is about apologetics, and primarily a discussion between LDS apologists and critics of the church.   If it is "faith promoting", that is Social Hall.  This forum is not meant to be faith promoting.

Read the posts in each forum and you will get a feel of which forum is appropriate for you posts.

Well, in the sense that apologetics can refute attacks and criticism, thereby leaving a question open and preserving conditions that permit faith to flourish, it can be faith promoting.

But that's just a quibble. I see what you're saying.

We are all an arrogant lot.

We actually think that other people want to read what we think and say.  Can't get more arrogant than that. ;)

I have lost any such illusions. I have points of clarity followed by 99% ramblings. :)

Ellen, you always have interesting things to contribute, whichever forum you are in. You have informed me

about things of which I was previously ignorant. No matter the forum your comments are very worthwhile!

And we also think people should give us more rep points when we say something.  I mean, if we're not you.  You get enough points.

My question for Moderators - Would it be possible to get reasons for why a thread was locked.

take the recent one on repercussions of the PH article.  Mods locked it and gave no reason  and I am curious what would be the reasons a thread gets locked besides people going over the line of acceptable behavior?

When there are too many post reports to fix.  Wait until everyone cools off and start another.

They do in many cases in red, but as with so much written and so many posters, they would have even less time to "volunteer" their duties. Usually when they close something down with comment, it is because all arguments have become circular.

I'm sorry, I got angry and left rather than say awful things and am over myself now. It is sad that some think that I post about myself and object. So much of what I say I know for myself because I experienced them. For example, I know there is racial prejudice in Honduras because I saw it. The Hondurans I live with while there on a relief mission saw themselves as "Spanish" while the Indians there were treated as "Less than".

In the future, I will avoid the "Men's Club".

I have given up initiating threads for the same reason. I don't get why some are moved and others not or the significance of such moves. Mods are not uniform and I suspect they do not even agree with each other at times; they are individuals who are willing to serve. The rule to remember is to not take things personally and then it becomes easier to handle what comes along.

I can only describe the violation and unkindness they make me feel in very unchristian words, so I will not say ...

A lot of my posts include my personal experiences, which I use to try and make a point... not much is said... maybe people feel sorry for me because I'm an old lady who lives alone with my cat...

Yes, that is exactly what we all feel about you, GG.  ;)
