LoudmouthMormon Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Colorado here. Get used to stories like that, Utah. Welcome to the party. I figure you're about a week behind us and our 7 deaths, and our mandatory shutdowns and shelter-in-place orders. If you're smart, you'll start now. Sorry. 3
Robert J Anderson Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 It's too bad this is happening. It makes me want to go back to school and get that PhD in virology/immunology so I can do something useful instead of helping people fight over money in court.

Calm Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Temples were doing live endowments and sealings, I believe. People still wanting to get married. I have two nieces planning late spring. 1

Not in Utah, except for Bountiful (stemming from this death) and Oquirrh Mountain, which was closed anyway for routine cleaning. The temple where I serve, Draper Utah, has had shift realignments and staffing reductions to accommodate appointment-only live ordinances the next few weeks. Those on my shift were excused for this past Saturday, and some will serve this Saturday by invitation only. Next Saturday, the temple will be closed for general conference. I don’t know what will happen after that. Some temples elsewhere in the Church are still open. Edited March 24, 2020 by Scott Lloyd 1

I wonder though if that was the case when the Bountiful man attended. I've heard that not too long ago the temple parking lot in Bountiful was totally full, by those that live near the temple or drove by. This was mentioned on a Bountiful private FB group of people that grew up in Bountiful area.
Calm Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 (edited) This was announced on the 13th according to the post I ripped it off from: Quote Where government or other restrictions do not preclude all temple activity, the following temple ordinances for living persons will be accommodated as capacity permits by appointment only: husband-and-wife and child-to-parents sealing ordinances and living initiatory and endowment ordinances. On a temporary basis, proxy temple ordinances will not be performed. So had to have been live ordinance; might have been a worker, escort, or there for a sealing. Edited March 24, 2020 by Calm

The Bountiful Temple was under the same very strict limitations as all other temples that are currently operating. As sad as this is for the affected family, it is also sad for all those other families that had appointments to perform living ordinances in the Bountiful Temple and cannot now do so. According to the D-News report, the man had existing respiratory problems when he went to the temple. In all honesty, he had no business being there under those conditions, and I know that temple office staffs make it very clear to those who make appointments exactly what the health and number-of-people restrictions are that have been requested of us by both the state and the church. That the saints ignore these restrictions is unconscionable and quite selfish in my view. The same goes for the family mobs gathering at the airport to welcome home junior from his mission as though everything is the same as it was two months ago. 1

The same goes for the family mobs gathering at the airport to welcome home junior from his mission as though everything is the same as it was two months ago. I think it may have been group mentality, they saw others doing it in the airport garage, so it must be okay kind of thing. Also, I have a feeling there are many that are hurrying to be able to be sealed/married. My friend's daughter canceled her wedding reception that is to be done in a week or two and chose to be sealed/married earlier which took place last week, she was very sad that she couldn't have it like normal, but didn't want to put off the ability to marry in the temple. I bet that's why there were many vehicles in the parking lot, many couples thinking the same thing. It is quite something actually, that Pres. Nelson made it okay to be married civilly and sealed later or soon after isn't it, or those that won't be able to have it done at the temple? And just think of all the work he saved those that would have been preparing for all of the pageants normally held in the summertime. ETA: I was wrong, my friend just posted on FB that it was today that her daughter married, it was in the Provo City Center temple. When I saw another photo, I'd assumed it happened last week. Not necessarily. Before my temple was closed, it was allowing up to eight invitees to be in the session where the person was to receive his/her own endowment. Presumably each invitee would, of necessity, have done a proxy ordinance. Edited March 26, 2020 by Scott Lloyd 1
