I'm with my son in the ER (4th consecutive day of severe headaches). During the registration process, I was asked his religious preference. "LDS" I replied.

i often say LDS.  I’m communicating and I’m trying to express a point efficiently, not trying to evangelize, and I’m sure in the ER you had no energy to evangelize.  I’m sure it’s ok.. 

I do appreciate the emphasis on Jesus Christ.  I use the full name when it makes sense to.

LDS is how it is usually written on medical and government forms, so it makes sense to use that when dealing with such organizations

I hope your son gets relief soon. Severe headaches are both painful and hard to ignore as so much harder to distance oneself from. And they can be scary too.

Every week, I'm getting better and better at using the word "Christian".    Where do I go to church? "A little Christian church in [town]."  Wanna go get beer?  "No thanks, I'm just a teetoataling little Christian boy."  Where were you last Tuesday?  "At the temple.  Not all Christian churches have temples, but mine does."  

I'm finding the re-emphasis on the proper name is often a good time to answer a question that isn't even asked.  Without being preachy, or being that guy who won't shut up about his stupid religion.

Not sure what military ID tags say these days, but on mine it said "LDS" when it came to religious preference.  I suppose they could put "CJCLDS" nowadays.

Update: After an MRI and a CT scan showed no explanation for the severe headaches, my son was released to go home. The prescriptions were completely ineffective and he was in complete agony. We returned to the ER and I insisted that my son be tested for viral meningitis. The doctor preformed a spinal tap and the results came back positive. He is now in the hospital where his pain can be managed while he recovers.

In fairness to the ER, a spinal tap is a delicate procedure that shouldn't be done for every patient that complains of a headache. The doctor was respectful when discussing the procedure and made sure we understood what we were asking him to do.

I figured.  I should have said reasonably proactive as I know some parents go to extremes without much cause.  

The page you linked to had other methods of diagnosis.  Had those been tried or were they slower in results? (Am curious about medical things plus never known what may be helpful down the line.)

Some kinds of meningitis are very serious, but he's in the right place and fortunately in time. Glad you stuck to your guns and got him tested.

I also see nothing wrong with impressing upon the world that every believer is a saint, and we don't need to be elected to such by some earthly authority. Of course using the acronym LDS falls a little short of that, but in my book it is OK. I just try to avoid it now for the Church at large.

In my opinion you have to keep after them and let them know that you're going to keep after them until there is a solution at least proposed.

I have been known to read medical journals and then ask them the questions about the medical journal article that I did not understand.

It keeps them on their toes.

I am surprised that they didn’t see any inflammation on the CT or MRI.  Glad to hear that it was not bacterial meningitis though.  I hope your son recovers well.
