My ward didn't have an Easter program and all the talks were on the temple, with no mention of Christ or the resurrection. I was shocked so I was wondering if anyone else experienced this? The Bishopric didn't make any mention of Easter either. Bishop just talked about a reminder for Stake Conference coming up. I thought today was supposed to be about Jesus and his resurrection.

Duncan Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 The first two talks were about the resurrection and then the last was about himself, and he didn't die for all mankind that I know of-in hindsight though yeah it was supposed to be about Christ but he hardly ever ever speaks in Church and he talked about how he came to join the Church so I guess whatever but he spoke through an interpreter

I would love to be a fly on the wall to learn how this happened in your ward. Our service was Easter on steroids with a lot of crying in gratitude for Christ. 3

Our ward had a Fast & Testimony meeting (next week being General Conference). The Primary children sang an Easter-themed song ("Gethsemane") (this is unusual for F&T meeting, but we made an exception). The bishop shared his testimony and spoke of Easter. Then the First Counselor shared his testimony and also spoke of Easter. 5-6 others who shared their testimonies did the same. There was ample discussion of Christ and the Resurrection. No mention of Christ at all? Didn't you have opening, closing and sacrament prayers? 2

My memories of Easter Sunday are different!! I can't believe this We had talks on the resurrection and even a Sacrament Song for a closing song. I am so surprised. My sister and I always did a musical number on Easter...we actually sang a Christmas Song that was (I think) called Starbright. Some of the words just connected with the resurrection. Also, "I Wonder When He Comes Again"....

Could be worse. One year, many years ago, Easter landed on High Council Sunday. IIRC, their talks were on food storage and the Word of Wisdom. No Easter hymns. I was young and shy back then. Today I would probably march up there afterwards and make snarky comments. However, I did make it my business from then on to find out when Easter would be each year, and approach the bishop a couple months before with a perky, "What are we going to do for Easter this year?" This approach seems to work nicely. I've also been known to say something to the Stake President. (This year I may make noises about them signing temple recommends today, and ask if they'll be doing the same on Christmas, since it's also on a fourth Sunday this year.) Anyway, our meeting today was all about the Atonement, and What It Means To Me. I got to be the last speaker, which meant that my already (supposed to be) short talk got even shorter as quotes and scriptures were used by other people. But apparently it was wonderful and made everyone cry. 4

VideoGameJunkie Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 I guess whoever decides talk topics felt the temple was a more important topic than Easter and resurrection. Our Sunday school lesson was on work and avoiding idleness.

Hamba Tuhan Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 (edited) We sang two Easter and two sacrament hymns, and the ward choir did an Easter song at the beginning. We had four speakers. The first, a young man leaving on his mission this week, mostly just shared his testimony. The second, a young woman, spoke on the atonement. The third, a recent convert, spoke on the need for (and the gift of) daily repentance, mostly using himself as an example. Easter was mentioned, but, as usual all the talks were Christ centred - talks were on obeying Him, taking on His name and on the atonement. Sunday school - easter was referred to but it mainly covered magnifying our callings and in relief society we discussed the Holy Ghost. I never find it hard to learn of Christ in my ward through out the morning. 2

All the speakers shared a poignant personal experience and application. It was too edifying to focus on the technicalities of the "Easter" celebration. 1
Storm Rider Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Like others, our Sacrament meeting was centered on Easter, the resurrection, and the Atonement. It was a wonderful meeting and felt like we could have all gone home afterwards because everything had been said.

bluebell Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Ours was weird. The first two talks were on preparing for general conference. The last one had a large part on the Savior, but then the end was on preparing for general conference too so I'm not sure if he was given too topics or snuck Easter into his. We did have a choir number-but it wasn't specifically about Easter but about springtime and Heavenly Father. Nothing else during the remaining time was on Easter either. I don't know that anyone would have been able tell it was Easter from being at church, though it was still a very nice meeting. Just weird. I wish the leadership made having an Easter themed Sunday mandatory.
Okrahomer Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Ours was all about Easter, complete with an excellent Easter talk centered on the atonement, scripture readings, a Primary Easter song (Gethsemane), a beautiful solo (Consider the Lillies), and 3 Choir numbers. We ended going over 15 minutes into the 2nd hour...but it was well worth it! 1
