Did your sacrament meeting avoid mentioning Easter too?

Were any of the talks in sacrament meeting about Easter? My ward didn't have an Easter program and all the talks were on the temple, with no mention of Christ or the resurrection. I was shocked so I was wondering if anyone else experienced this? The Bishopric didn't make any mention of Easter either. Bishop just talked about a reminder for Stake Conference coming up. I thought today was supposed to be about Jesus and his resurrection.

Nope, Sacrament meeting was all about Easter.

Only went to Sacrament meeting, but that had a youth's reading of the conversion of Alma, a member talk on appreciating what Jesus did for us during Sacrament (very Easter appropriate), and what ended up being a member talk about the Parable of the Sower and our options on how to respond to the Gospel and God's word, thus affecting our fruitfulness. So a bit of a mixed bag on the talks. Did have a special quartet number and the hymn selections were all Easter.

Joshua...

I notice in your self description under your avatar you mention one of your interests is "the Way."  That is one of my all time favorite movies... have you made the pilgrimage or do you just hope to do so one day...

Sounds like your Sacrament Mtg did contain elements of Easter...

I have never attended a ward meeting on Easter Sunday without the whole SM program being devoted to Easter and Christ risen.

Every ward I ever attended when I was active celebrated Easter with appropriate talks and music during sacrament meeting.

Do not assume that all other churches do things better.

Our most recent convert has nearly daily lessons by her request. She loves that there is so much to learn and people willing to teach her. She said she'd never before attended a church so focused on teaching about Christ instead of, in her words, 'singing, clapping, and occasionally sharing a scripture or two'.

Pretty much how I feel too.

I didn't feel Easter too much from Church but it was mentioned a bit in Sacrament.  My wife was disappointed because SS and RS had no mention of Christ or Easter, basically at all.  I guess RS was all about trying to confirm to the women that the Church is the bestest and we have no business doing as some scriptures say regarding Church (my wife's position is Church is not for adoring Church so much as to bring us together to focus on Christ.  Instead she got a full dosage of people worshipping Church, which always annoys her).

In EQ the person assigned to teach taught us a random lesson from Harold B Lee manual.  That was kinda cute.  he got it all mixed up, I guess.  It wasn't about Easter, but it was about trying to communicate with God.  You'll see a mixed bag, I guess.  My wife got the comment from one of the women at Church, "I get tired of Church on these holidays making it all about the holiday."  My wife responded about how it's odd that on Mother's day we make the whole of the meetings about mothers, but on Easter we tend to shy away from Christ....AT CHURCH of all places.  The lady whom she was discussing was not impressed.

I guess one lady in RS commented regarding Church, "we tend to forget the single ladies, those who aren't mothers, never are or never were (as we have a few in our ward)" going on to suggest how uncomfortable they tend to be at Church.  Another lady adamantly responded how stupid that was, "how selfish" she surmised, referring to anyone who is uncomfortable at Church.  I guess my wife nearly walked out at that point, which it sounds like she should have.

In our gospel principles it was supposed to be about baptism but we got how much better we are then the Jews because the teacher went to a Bar Mitzvah once and they talked about the holocaust there and we don't do that in our church which is why we get the covenant and they don't and then he told us about people who are chronically late beside reasons for children, cars and bus hiccups are not real christians because they don't appreciate the sacrament. EQ was allright, the discussiion was about what do we do with the atonement and resurrection and setting a good example 1 Tim. 4:12

Why was the guy in elders quorum teaching from the Harold B. Lee manual when the course this year is on the teachings of Howard W. Hunter?

Our Sunday school was on Jacob 5- allegory of the olive tree.

RS was on Uchtdorf's talk on staying firm during trials, the one where he focuses on Daniel in the OT.

Thanks.  That (our 2 Nephi 31 lesson) was probably a regular lesson then as we have had 2 stake conferences already this year and ward conferences with lessons from the stake.

We all looked at each other wondering what he was thinking.  We asked, "you mean Howard W. Hunter"?  He got a little embarrassed and relooked at the text he got from the EQ councilor and said, "oops.  For some reason I thought it said Harold b. Lee".    It was fine.  A bit of a mix up.  We don't hear from this particular guy very much so it was good to hear his lesson.

Two stake conferences and it's only March? That's nearly one a month. They're supposed to be semi-annual.

Has he not paid attention to what has been taught since January 1? Sheesh.

It's the content that's important, Scott.  I'm sure he's paid attention to the lessons, not feeling overly concerned about from whom the lesson is coming.  It's not like he's a sinner for the mix up.

I've come to think about these as "Baptists at Our Barbeque" wards. I think all wards pass through times like this at some time or another,  some more than others.  I've found it is best to love the members for their quirks and they will love me back and teach me things I need to know.  That doesn't mean it is ok to not talk of Christ or that I too don't get frustrated by the lack of it.  I just find that as I love them more then I see examples of Christ more in them than I did before and I become more Christ like through the process of learning to love them.

Not a sinner. Just a bit clueless.

Does he not have a Howard W. Hunter manual? Every adult in our ward gets one. I thought that was the intent Churchwide.

Yes, we had one scheduled and then the second was added for 2 or 3 weeks later.  There were a lot of rumors that the stake presidency was getting released.  The reason we got for having the second one was because there were a number of general authorites coming to the area so the timing was right.

Interesting.

Does this mean you are through with stake conferences for the year?

Yesterday evening my extended family had an Easter gathering.  We had dinner together, then my sister and brother gave a lesson about the last week of the Savior's life.  This included several video clips from LDS.org, explanations of Palm Sunday and other events and observed religious traditions about the week leading up to Christ's death and resurrection, and some object lessons.  The lesson was geared toward the children (I have four sisters and two brothers living in Utah County, so there were a total of 24 children, plus their parents, plus my parents -all in all a large gathering).

We also had a dinner and Easter Egg hunt on Saturday.  I think the sentiment was that we wanted to let the kiddos enjoy the "fun" part of Easter on Saturday, but that we should also help them understand the sacred aspects of Christ's resurrection on Sunday.  It was a very enjoyable and edifying weekend.

Thanks,

-Smac

Let me make a correction. The extra stake conference was actually before our regular conference, not after. It was also a multi-stake conference with,  I think, 10 stakes which here in Mesa does not cover a lot of ground. Specifically called a stake conference not an area conference. I know several general authorites who were in town who gave firesides etc. but did not all actually come/speak to the conference so it was kind of different.

Yes, we have another scheduled later this year.

My stake has had two as well: our regularly scheduled stake conference and a special broadcast stake conference to the region. We were on 2 Nephi 31-33 for SS also.

Our SM was very Christ and Atonement centered, and even SS fit in because it was a lot about relying on Christ and enduring to the end.

RS, however, was based on Bednar's talk, "Chosen to Bear Witness of My Name" and unfortunately the teacher chose to focus heavily on the idea that "when the leaders speak, it's just like hearing it from the Savior". Sigh. At least the end of that talk includes several testimonies of Christ by recently departed apostles.
