My ward didn't have an Easter program and all the talks were on the temple, with no mention of Christ or the resurrection. I was shocked so I was wondering if anyone else experienced this? The Bishopric didn't make any mention of Easter either. Bishop just talked about a reminder for Stake Conference coming up. I thought today was supposed to be about Jesus and his resurrection. I heard this before, but in my 37 years in the Ward I have found that with the taking of the Sacrament every week, the songs we sing and the talks given...90% of all we do and say is about the risen Lord. This is what Easter is all about.

I thought that was the intent Churchwide. Who wants one? They are online or part of the app. I don't know if he has one. I don't think I got one this year, though. I recall them bringing them in and I totally abstained. I have the whole of them sitting on a shelf at my house, now, but I don't think I need to collect them for anything. After the year is up I haven't referred back to them at all, plus they're all downloadable online. I have a new phone since HBL so I downloaded it a couple seconds' time yesterday.

I believe that stake conference schedules have been changed so that there is supposed to be a third one every other year. It's too bad that many members of the church feel that stake conference is "optional." But then I guess that everything about the gospel is optional, up to and including exaltation.

We had a full sacrament meeting specifically on Easter. The primary children sang an Easter song, the Choir did an Easter Medley, there was a Piano Solo, and two talks on Easter.

juliann Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 We had Easter talks. And the only male participant, aside from the bishop conducting, gave the opening prayer. I (with fellow speaker) was assigned to speak on the mortal life of Christ before Easter as preparation for Sunday's talks on the atonement and resurrection. 1

Apparently the third "stake conference" is in reality a multi-stake or a regional conference. Such mulit-stake events have been held in the past, though my memory is that they were held in lieu of regularly scheduled stake conferences.

With only one male participant being shared are we supposed to think better of this meeting or less? Qualifying the gender of participants is supposed to demonstrate that your ward is more enlightened or something else. I am confused when something so obviously sexist is used to qualify a meeting. 1

That's what I was under the impression that they were supposed to be, but in the last year I've been to three stake conferences and they were all the normal type.

Perhaps there are things that some people hold sacred and find it hurtful to have others make jokes about. That does not mean that those people cannot laugh at other things. 4

You can laugh about anything, including sacred things if you have that type of personality.

consiglieri Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 We had two talks on relying on God, and then a member of the bishopric gave a long and meandering and not-easy-to-follow talk about the resurrection. But he cried throughout and wore out at least three tissues so I know the Spirit was present. Not satisfied, a visiting member of the stake presidency got up and kept us an extra ten-minutes while striving manfully to outdo the bishopric member's talk in the category of "long and meandering and not-easy to follow." All bracketed with the worst Easter hymns imaginable. We learned why we never sing those Easter hymns. The highlight was the final hymn, "He is Risen," and the closing prayer.

3DOP Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Jeebus instead of Jesus? I never heard of it. Now that I have, yeah, I guess I am not greatly amused. I am sure that is really hilarious unless you have the misfortune to have my personality. 3
VideoGameJunkie Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 I guarantee you that Heavenly Father aND Jesus have the best personality and are not serious like everyone thinks they are.

Someone who self-identifies as VideoGameJunkie continuously rags all over his own church with living Apostles, and then offers his personal guarantee about how "Heavenly Father aND Jesus" think it is funny to refer to Jesus as Jeebus. I have taken seriously and considered the claims of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While I respect its claims, I remain compelled to adhere to a different point of view. But I have no respect for "the Church of Jeebus". I reject and abhor what I am pleased to label "The Church of Jeebus of VideoGameJunkie" and its puerile criticisms stated in the form of questions against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
