Did your sacrament meeting avoid mentioning Easter too?

With all yours being on Easter, why was mine just on the temple?

Presumably your stake is slacking off on temple attendance.

We had an Easter song by the Primary Class children and a special music rendition of "I Know That My Redeemer Lives".

Two of the talks specifically were about Easter. (The first was on preparing for a mission).

The hymns were directed towards Easter and Resurrection.

Our ward had a Fast & Testimony meeting (next week being General Conference).  The Primary children sang an Easter-themed song ("Gethsemane") (this is unusual for F&T meeting, but we made an exception).  The bishop shared his testimony and spoke of Easter.  Then the First Counselor shared his testimony and also spoke of Easter.  5-6 others who shared their testimonies did the same.

There was ample discussion of Christ and the Resurrection.

Thanks,

-Smac

This was my Lincoln City OR ward's fast and testimony program also (except for primary song)... Hymns sung were... He is Risen... Christ Our Lord is Risen Today... He Died! The Great Redeemer Died.

We had fast and testimony meeting because general conference is next week.

The Church's Easter Initiative video, Hallelujah, was shown both in gospel doctrine class and high priests meeting.

I'm ward choir director. We performed an Easter-related piece two weeks ago, because we couldn't do it today or last week (temple dedication).

I'm glad you still attend LDS services.

"Still" is a misapprehension.

"Just resumed" reflects the actuality.

Check a couple of threads in Social Hall or review my recent posts for some measure of insight.

We are having our Fast meeting the second Sunday in April. Wonder what makes them decide when to have it?

Our Sac meeting today had Easter themed talks and our choir singing two Easter songs. Sunday School focused on the resurrected Christ and His appearance in the new world to the Nephites.

Were any of the talks in sacrament meeting about Easter? My ward didn't have an Easter program and all the talks were on the temple, with no mention of Christ or the resurrection. I was shocked so I was wondering if anyone else experienced this? The Bishopric didn't make any mention of Easter either. Bishop just talked about a reminder for Stake Conference coming up. I thought today was supposed to be about Jesus and his resurrection.

VGJ...

From the above responses, apparently your ward is the only one that did not have some aspect of Easter and resurrection included in today's services... I too am "shocked"...

I was on my own today and skipped church.  Really shouldn't have, because I missed not being there.

Although my ward tries, I usually leave Easter scrament meetings a little disappointed.

Glad you all had a good one, except for VGJ... sorry you didn't get some Jesus time.  Temples can work but not all the time.

Do we know much about the Savior, little details that other churches learn about non stop?  I don't think so.  When you look at the curriculum,  the study of His life is very sparse.

I don't understand how a Mormon can be upset with their leadership for failing to follow the leadership of the Roman Church or any of the other Unrestored Churches on when or how to celebrate the Lord's Birth, Death,or Resurrection. There is no universal agreement regarding the correct dates for any of the events. I do not think I have heard of a man more universally disliked by Mormons than Constantine. But he is the one of the main authorities who attempted to arrive at uniformity about the date for Easter observance. What makes you inclined to follow Constantine on the question of the date for Easter observance? Why don't you just follow the living Apostles in Salt Lake City you say you believe in, and celebrate what, and how, and when they say to celebrate?

Hate to say it, but in 60+ years of Church attendance, I have never heard the name Constantine mentioned from the pulpit. A hate man in Mormondom? Sorry, he is well behind Gov.  Boggs and Judas. I suspect that the majority of members born in the church have no clue who he is let alone his teachings. Catholic converts, of whom there are a couple, probably are somewhat more familiar with him. I know of him through secular studies. God works in mysterious ways His wonders to perform .

Well, I'm glad you've resumed then. Welcome back.

In our case, it was a busy calendar in April, including a couple of missionary departures and one return, plus stake conference near the end of the month.

Okay. Wrong again. Nothing new.

When we are trying to establish that there was a general apostasy, I think we do quote one of the reformers who didn't much care for Constantine. But I think the average Mormon is indifferent to him.

I don't think I've ever heard his name mentioned in church.

A complex of circumstances have me prayerfully sorting thru several things. No need to derail this thread. Thanks for the kind welcome. Others extended similar warmth both here and at my local ward.

3DOP: it appears some posters had their Easter celebration programs earlier.

The LDS Church affords local areas some degree of congregational latitude, just as the Romon Catholic and Eastern Orthodox permit some measure of autocephaly.

We had 4 talks on the atonement, one by my 14yo. I don't know that I have ever heard a talk on the atonement that included the stripping warriors before this, but they went very well together and he did a great job.  And I don't mean that in the usual pat a youth on the shoulders and praise him for a poor talk kind of way.

Sunday school was on 2 Nephi 31-32. Is that about where we should be or was this special for the day?  I've been in Gospel Principles for 2 years so I had no idea where we were.

RS was about Elder Oaks atonement talk.

Our Sunday school was on Jacob 5- allegory of the olive tree.

RS was on Uchtdorf's talk on staying firm during trials, the one where he focuses on Daniel in the OT.

Our gospel doctrine lesson was on the chapters in Jacob. Part of his sermon deals with the Atonement, so it went well for an Easter sabbath.

Only went to Sacrament meeting, but that had a youth's reading of the conversion of Alma, a member talk on appreciating what Jesus did for us during Sacrament (very Easter appropriate), and what ended up being a member talk about the Parable of the Sower and our options on how to respond to the Gospel and God's word, thus affecting our fruitfulness. So a bit of a mixed bag on the talks. Did have a special quartet number and the hymn selections were all Easter.

Maybe it was because I'm in a singles ward, who knows.

Nope. My singles ward was very atonement/Christ themed. I think temples were mentioned in a couple talks... but only in connection of palm sunday and that the hosanna shout was done so on palm sunday for the Temple dedication. Heavily Christ-centered, heavily utilizing scriptural accounts of such. And a couple of easter numbers in between. Maybe they were like basically most of my family and forgot it was easter because it was in march.

With luv,

I thought every student learned about Constantine in history classes and his role in embracing Christianity over his previous beliefs... don't remember much about his actual teachings, and am pretty fuzzy on him now without looking up his history... just remember that he named Christianity as the official religion of his day...
