Calm Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Read the whole thing. Unfortunately there wasn't one new item that would have given me some fun researching. 1
Calm Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) Whether any apologist wants to/should follow them to the chapels and take their photos and put them online, is another issue.Unless they start promoting harm, I don't see why this would be needed. It's like getting a flyer on one's winshield. Edited February 12, 2013 by calmoriah
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 There are a 1,000 "gentle" ex-Mormon sites? I know of Slick's site which is idle and seeks for nothing more the to belittle the Church and this site. Most of it is just filth and to destroy Dr. Peterson.
bluebell Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 It's hard to believe that any active, temple attending member with a testimony of the church would support this group. Since they are going under the courageous cover of 'anonymous', i don't believe they are being at all truthful when they imply that such people are working with them.
juliann Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Unless they start promoting harm, I don't see why this would be needed. It's like getting a flyer on one's winshield.Actually, we all got papered during church for $25 foot massages last Sunday. I didn't check for news coverage because our cop member coincidentally drove in with three huge German shepherds in his truck after they did it. 1
Ahab Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 ... The group of protesters consists mainly of progressive, temple recommend-carrying members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints...Thoughts?-Smac4. Ugh! Just very disappointing to hear that temple recommend-carrying members are doing something as silly as that.
Popular Post Buzzard Posted February 13, 2013 Popular Post Posted February 13, 2013 It's strange how many people who claim to have the truth are so scared of a few facts - and yes, they are facts if any of you bothered to check for yourself. Now instead of acting like brats and tearing up someone else's hard work, why don't you address the issues raised and stop the ad hominem attacks and silly nit picking. Calling people "cowardly" and quibbling over the number of theses, as if that's what really matters. Grow up. Do you want them to stand at the chapel door with a stack of copies handing them out? Of course not. You'll call the police or something. How do you want them to get these facts addressed by the church? How do you suggest those who have studied church history using Church documents (not so-called anti Mormon material) get their concerns looked at by the leadership? If you actually researched the church using its own documents you would see how many untruths are taught over the pulpit each Sunday and in church publications. Do you actually want to keep teaching and learning a false history of your faith that the church's OWN DOCUMENTS show is a lie? What type of organization are you protecting?Dismissing the issues and "anti Mormon" is a technique used by those who don't want to research and understand the issues in question. If the truth is "anti Mormon", what does that make Mormonism????? What kind of people are you? Step back and take a long look at your behavior. You might also not be so selfish to try to stop others from thinking about the issues raised. If the church is true it should be able to stand up against the FACTS hidden from the general membership for so long without people scurrying around trying to hide them. The cat's outta the bag folks. The internet age means ordinary people can search for the truth. It's just like when the Bible was finally published in English. The church (Catholic) couldn't stop people questioning what they had bee telling them was fact any more. They could read it for themselves. Just think for a minute about the type of people who try to prevent others from learning. Historically they have always been on the wrong side of an argument, which is why they have to play dirty. When this gets to the media, and it will, there will be part of the story showing torn up pages or closed minded members refusing to even read the paper. All that does is confirm to all that LDS members are unable to think for themselves, and are willing to believe anything their leaders tell them even if Mormon documents actually show the complete opposite was true. It won't look good. Finally, for those who claim these issues have been addressed by the church, I ask WHERE? If FAIR or FARMS came up with some attempt at answers, that's not good enough. The Corporation of the President of the COJCOLDS has never stood behind any of the so-called answers given by apologists. There are disclaimers on apologist websites stating as much. If these "answers" were what the official church wishes to be known, they would say so. Instead the Church tries to ignore the issues raised, hoping they will go away. They won't, especially as more people worldwide are now able to read early LDS documents online and compare the facts to what the modern church teaches.Keep dismissing people like these 260. Keep ignoring the issues. Keep combining wards and reducing temple operating hours. Real open minded, aren't we? I perused your little list, though I confess that after the first 50 or so, I was just skimming. Most of these were issues that I checked out and resolved in my own mind decades ago. Reasonable people can have different opinions, but I don't get much nuance there. All you are asking is that the church come out, admit that it's all just a big joke, and begin the process of shutting down. And if people come to a different conclusion than you do, it's because they are afraid of the real truth, the facts, whatever. I surprised you didn't call us sheeple.Look, I'm sorry you seem to have lost your testimony. But some of us have actually examined the evidence and come to the conclusion that this is truly God's church, that the whole shootin' match-Moroni, Gold Plates, Kirtland, The First Vision-everything-it all really happened. That doesn't make us cowardly, or blind. And considering that most of these "concerns" have been raised up and refuted numerous times, not wanting to do it AGAIN every time some disaffected or hostile ex or evangelical runs it up the flagpole doesn't mean we are wrong. And considering that many of the original documents about these topics were either put online by the church or are available for public perusal at the Church History Library, it makes me scratch my nearly bald head when you accuse the church of hiding it's history. So, at the risk of offending the tender feelings of all thirteen score of you (and if I were a bettin' man, I'd bet less than ten percent of that number have darkened the door of an LDS church in the last few years), please don't go away mad, just go away. 5
Popular Post mfbukowski Posted February 13, 2013 Popular Post Posted February 13, 2013 Can you imagine the Catholics apologizing for several weird Popes, the Inquisition and the Crusades?Oh no! There might be a few of the Billion-plus Catholics who do not know about these things! Clearly they should send out messages detailing every possible problem people might come up with to object to their faith.Full disclosure. And some of their buildings might have materials which will cause cancer if you eat several pounds of the plaster! After all, somebody might be offended by what they don't know and we can't have that. It's just not politically correct! 5
mfbukowski Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 4. Ugh! Just very disappointing to hear that temple recommend-carrying members are doing something as silly as that.Carrying them is one thing and actually using them is another. We need more of the latter and less of the former.
Deborah Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I first saw this on FB. Nothing new in these and I'm amazed at the ignorance of those posting them that they don't know these have all been answered.

Where have you been hiding?I suggest you actually read some threads around here. All of these have been discussed multiple times around here- and others you haven't listed.

Kenngo1969 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 ... The first to get it will be the leaders getting to early morning meetings, and they will be taken down and filed appropriately. ... Ding, ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding!!!! Tell him what he's won, Bob! (Sounds like a good excuse for me to show up early to Bishopric Meeting this Sunday! )

Storm Rider Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Well, trespass is trespass. Also, my recollection is that Martin Luther did not post the theses secretively, or in the middle of the night, or while hiding behind a fake name. So no, this is not being done "the same way."First, I am not trespassing in the middle of the night to post anti-LDS material on LDS buildings.Second, I have posted my IRL name many times on this board (here it is again: Spencer Macdonald).Thanks,-SmacLuther also was just notifying the college town of his future presentation; a presentation whose attendance is unknown to us today. He was a small time professor at a small time college giving a presentation. He was not in protest against the Church itself, but was very much against the selling of Indulgences. The protest did not occur until later and for a host of different reasons. This silliness must makes me yawn. I think there are people in this world that feel compelled to protest. It does not matter against what, but they must protest. They have become, as a movement and a group, a onerous carbuncle on the backside of society at large and the Church today only because it is the goût du jour.

BCSpace Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 (edited) A group of over 260 active and disaffected Mormons will be posting a copy of 95 LDS Theses onto the doors of their local churches around the world between the hours of 9:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16th, and 9:00 a.m. Sunday, February 17, 2013.They'd better do it several hours later on Saturday night as the person designated to ensure the building is locked and lights out may not have done his rounds yet (a building with an electronic key might not be subject to this). Also, the Bishoprics of 9 am wards often meet at 7 am on Sunday so it probably should be done earlier than that. Not that I agree with the "theses".......... but I do know that more opposition to the Church means more converts and more interesting discussion during the block. Also, it might be safer that never the two groups, Mormons and anti Mormons, should meet like that during those hours on Mormon territory. Edited February 13, 2013 by BCSpace
Avatar4321 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Publishing PR articles? Pseudonyms? No real names given at all? Secretive, unlawful behavior at night?I'm not willing to grant an assumption of good faith given these circumstances. And they undoubtedly are attempting to harm the Church.I hope they fail in their endeavors. This behavior is not in good faith.Thanks,-SmacNo need to hope. They will fail.BTW if someone hasnt pointed this out, maybe we ought to tell them that there has already been a Mormon Reformation. 3
Avatar4321 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I'm currently here at BYU, and I have to wonder if anybody who is still saying the church suppresses discussion and its history have ever stepped foot in a classroom here. Joseph Smith's head in a hat? Entire passages complete with the original KJV errors found in the BoM? Polygamy and every single unpleasant aspect of Joseph's life? Masons and the temple? ALL of it discussed and then some at BYU. I think anti Mormonism is going to have to come up with something new, because this stuff just isn't news anymore, and it doesn't faze anyone. Majority of members in the next couple of years won't bat an eye when this stuff comes up...and that whole "must have never had a testimony in the first place" is going to rear its ugly head again...because this stuff is taught and discussed and isn't secret--gonna be infuriating to many ex-mormons.Some people seem to think that if they neglected their studies of Church history, that there must have been a conspiracy keeping it from them.
