Premortal and Post-mortal Activities - what do people do?

Recommended Posts

Born and raised in the Church and in the Covenant here.

Growing up we were taught that the mortal part of our lives represents only a very small part of our existence:

----------------------------------|  |--------------------------------------------------

The line before the break = premortal life. The break = mortality. The post break = post-mortal life, eternal progression, exaltation, salvation only in and through the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Curious - and looking for more research on this topic: What do people do pre-mortally and post-mortally, particularly in the Spirit World?

My own thoughts on what people might do:

- Progress, at their own pace (pre and post-mortally)

- Attend Birth Farewells, like missionary farewells but for those who are going to be born (pre and post-mortally)

- Explore the universe, galaxy, creations of other planets, peopling of them, etc.

- Sharing the gospel, encouraging others like working with less active/ inactive / ex'd friends (pre and post-mortally)

- Attend significant events like deaths, marriages, Temple ordinances (their own and that of their relatives, descendants, ancestors) etc. on earth - especially since the the Spirit World = earth. (pre and post-mortally)

- Serve in different callings (pre and post-mortally): Do they have General Conference? Do people serve in all the callings there that we have here - I think they do (missionaries, bishops, stake presidents, mission presidents, area authorities, GA's, etc. Not sure about Quorum of the Twelve since they might be organized according to time lived on earth - but there were 2 Quorums of the Twelve after the Savior was resurrected?

Still - since they don't need to eat or sleep, it seems like they'd have quite a lot of time on their hands. I guess that's why the emphasis on repenting while in mortality is taught.

Curiously, much of your list focuses on us, in mortality. Kind of a natural thing to do I suppose. We are correctly told that God work and glory is to bring about the immortality and eternal life of man. But... it is not their only work. I believe, far from it. So what is it? When Moses got a peak at some of the grandness of the eternal realms he naturally asked "Tell me, I pray thee, why these things are so, and by what thou madest them?" The Lord's response "For mine own purpose have I made these things. Here is wisdom and it remaineth in me."and it remaineth in me." Basically the answer was "Nope, not going to tell you -- you worry about your job right now in mortality. But, your job right now is important so don't fret about that. Mortality means something."

That doesn't stop me from having some speculations. I do like cosmology. But the speculations extend beyond the reach of what the revelators of the Church have intimated at and so they likewise "remaineth in me".

There clearly is opportunity for progress during each stage.  I’m intrigued by the fact that billions of our spiritual siblings were so successful with the opportunities in our premortal life that they were assured exaltation before experiencing mortality.

I'm guessing a good part of y'all will be energetically engaged in the good cause of trying to get my dad to accept the earthly ordinances I've performed for him on his behalf.  Your work might be more fruitful if you offer to play poker with him, and if there's some sort of eternal equivalent to beer.

That all sounds excessively boring to me.

I hope to eat, cook, garden, make music, have parties, have sex, exercise, visit friends, do projects, play, travel, work, nap, discuss, study and do church stuff.

kind of like now.  There’s not one of those activities I want to let go of in the afterlife.

I would say the same things we do here, including assisting, practicing and learning from the Lord and Heavenly Parents in Their activities.

I also want to rock climb and hang glide and fence and make pottery and blow glass and weave massive tapestries and especially to learn how to dance in a myriad of ways.

I want someone to rock climb vicariously for me.

I hope we find that Trivial Pursuit (s) are no longer fun.

If rock climbing isn’t gendered, I will happily be your proxy.

First thing I am doing when I become a God is blowing up a bunch of stars in supernova explosions. Going to light everything up.

Yeah, who needs the big dipper when everybody has GPS anyway?

You won’t need them. Imagine the games you can play when you can reshape the elements at will.

WOW! You can "shapeshift" into any of the 57 genders. Whoo hoo.

Yes, can you please list them all so I can try them one at a time once I get there?

Or are you repeating brainless propaganda again?

There is at least one official website. I think you would approve of this one: Zuckerberg's Facebook. When you register, you get to pop up the complete list as you enter into the gender slot.
