I also understand the "Utah" accent, which you seem to take great joy in pointing out and making fun of and is really just part of the larger western US group, is influenced by immigrants from the British Isles. Scots, Irish, Welsh. The Wikipedia article doesn't mention this, but I recall reading something about it a year or two ago. It's cool you even have an accent! Mass media is stomping them out 1

california boy Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 I remember walking into a classroom at BYU. Someone had written on the chalk board It is a gorgeous and glorious day everywhere except Spanish Fark. There it is gargous and glarious. 1

Tacenda Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 (edited) I'm sorry Nofear, for using this thread, usually there's a conference thread, and this is the closest I can find. I just love this story that was shown in between conferences about a 78 year old member that painted each of the Uvalde shooting victims and just had to share. https://www.ksl.com/article/50609929/general-conference-special-uvalde-angels ETA: To keep up with the roll the thread is currently on, my mom would ask me to get the farks and knives out and set the table. MustardSeed Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 It took years before I understood my grandma to mean “I’m headed to the church building” when she said “I’m headed up to tha waard.” I also notice lots of Utah with deep roots will say a quick “mm” before saying “bye” before hanging up the phone. “Mm bye” 😘 1

Tacenda Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 (edited) As much as I enjoyed some of the talks, the one that put a bad taste in my mouth was the one by Elder Gong, when he said he asked a beautiful girl why she was wearing a modest swimsuit at the beach. I think he should get the gong for that one. Tired of it already, focusing on women's clothing choices. Also, as far as word count, how about the many times Palm Sunday was mentioned, wondering if it broke a record. I liked Elder Stevenson's talk on how we as a church should come up with some ideas for celebrating like other churches on Palm Sunday. Edited April 5, 2023 by Tacenda

OK, I admit ... It's a stretch, but still ... (One should always stretch before running, as well.) I love spicy salsa. Make my own. So that makes me a Pace maker, too. Sunday was one of our words and I was glad I chose something small that I had a lot of. I was glad I didn't choose "palm" as I started to think that was said even more!
