Fether Posted June 23, 2022 Posted June 23, 2022 It’s a well known and proven fact that Sloppy Joe’s are the very best meals in America. With that fact being so obvious and prevalent… why don’t we see it at many, if any, restaurants? I can’t think of a single place that offers sloppy joes

Yeah, I definitely don't care enough to make them from scratch, though I'm sure they are a ton better that way. If I put sloppy joes on the menu it's because I want to be able to make dinner in 10 minutes. That's the only reason I ever have them: quick and easy. Take that away and I'll just go with a different option I like more.

Pyreaux Posted June 24, 2022 Posted June 24, 2022 I need to call my mom and ask her how she turned left over spaghetti sauce into sloppy Joes or like a slightly sweet red hotdog chili. Its probably just brown sugar and chili powder or something. She also did a "fried spaghetti", left over spaghetti noodles and sauce and Parmesan cheese in a pan, then puts an egg in it and creates like an omelet. But when I tried to do it, the egg just coated the noodles and resulted in a not very tasty mess. 2

They are sweeter and less likely to add a bitter taste.

The trick to putting eggs in with noodles is to make sure there is enough liquid that the eggs are less likely scramble. In Carbonara, for example, you can add some of the liquid from the cooked spaghetti in to help before the egg mixture. Also, you have to remove the pan from heat usually before adding the eggs. That helps.

I have trouble getting the mix right but I could do it when I was a kid. We'd try mixing eggs with anything. They work surprisingly well with those rectangles of frozen spinach. 1

I looked at a young boy next to me who was enthusiastically helpng himself, and asked him what grits were. I honestly felt as though I had just landed 🙄 Well, have you ever per chance had a really hardy (meat laden) bowl of "Chili con Carne" before? That is a stew of ground beef (Hamburger) and chili peppers (usually in the form of chili powder), sometimes with tomatoes, onions, garlic powder. Well imagine that extra chunky (way more meat than chili stew) add a sweetening agent like brown sugar and a few chunks of bell pepper. Then put it on a Hamburger bun, hope the bread soaks the stew up (but don't wait for it to get soggy) and also hope that it doesn't fall on your shirt as you bite into it... as its almost a guarantee that it will, especially if you are wearing a light colored shirt or if you are a child... and its usually children that we chose to serve this to. Children just have little regard for the potential loss of dignity at hand, until then they just know it tastes good. Grits are a type, and are the constancy, of a corn meal that has soaked in water. Popular in the southern United States, you ideally need to be raised on it to enjoy it. You have to discover your own way to eat it. People normally try to put a ton of butter and salt on it. People put all kind of stuff on it to give it the flavor it doesn't have on its own. Cheese, sugar... mackerel and peanut butter (if you one of the several African-American fitness buffs I know). Has anyone else ever had/heard of American tacos? It’s a ‘family’ recipe from my husband’s family and a favorite in my house but I’ve never known anyone else that makes it. It sounds kind of awful but we like it. Sounds very much like a tostada to me. I wonder if that's the original recipe or if they just left out the cilantro, lime, and a few other seasonings in order to make it "American."
