Again, I encourage this approach. Um, is this hyperbole? Or is it lying? Or maybe it’s “demonstrative” fact. If so, I invite you to demonstrate that each and every cable news operation engages in videographic fraud on the order of shooting something in Texas and passing it off as Baghdad. I recognize this will take a while; I’m prepared to wait.
The Nehor Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 2 hours ago, Scott Lloyd said: Whatever. Obviously, the court disagrees with you. The court agreed with what I said. That is the whole point of the story. The person suing said Tucker reported that certain things were facts that were demonstratively false and the court agreed with the plaintiff that Tucker lied. The court dismissed the lawsuit because they agreed with the defense that no reasonable person would take Tucker Carlson at his word due to the nature of the show. 3

I did when the trial was ongoing. As to your challenge I reject the idea that “whataboutism” is a defense but since the challenge is sadly easy I will play. Fox News spliced together an incredibly misleading photo spliced together from multiple photos to create a more dramatic effect and ran a story about Seattle being a war zone while using a photo from St. Paul. Same concept. Took visual media from one place and claimed it was another for dramatic effect. I don’t know which is worse. They’re both terrible. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/fox-news-runs-digitally-altered-images-in-coverage-of-seattles-protests-capitol-hill-autonomous-zone/ I am not sure why you are defending the honor of a 24 hour news station. 3

Popular Post bsjkki Posted January 5, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 5, 2022 (edited) Here is an example of the church helping out. Church members help after bus crash in Utah and snowstorm in Idaho (thechurchnews.com) Church members help clean up after deadly Midwest tornadoes (thechurchnews.com) Crisis at the border: The Church of Jesus Christ helping asylum seekers - Deseret News Mormon Helping Hands Archives - CHURCHOFJESUSCHRISTINNORTHTEXAS.ORG Parker Members Drive 2 Food Drives On National Day of Service | Church of Jesus Christ Colorado Here is an archive of Helping Hands. Just curious...how many participated with this? My stakes were called to help in Florida, Kansas and Colorado for various reasons. My stake had such a wonderful partnership with the city that the mayor converted. I find the original op really off base knowing how much service is performed by church members across the country. In Boulder County, they are overwhelmed with people wanting to help. ***Just wanted to add, the state of Colorado reached out to the church for help with refugees. We are obviously a trusted partner in our state. They need help and they called the church for that help. That is pretty cool. Edited January 5, 2022 by bsjkki 6

I am interest in the personal effort. The sacrifice that costs US time, energy, money, effort, the tangible hand that touches the lives of others though which people can see the love of Christ flowing through us. Lots of people donate lots of money for the wrong reasons but will never lift a finger to go and do the work. In the United States is the most common form of "help". Write a check and forget about it. I was just wondering if you had ever helped with the helping hands. Were you here when local wards and stakes literally dug Boulder out after the floods? 4
Popular Post Buckeye Posted January 6, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 6, 2022 A service opportunity issued from our stake yesterday morning. Other stakes signed up too. Families need ash sifters to help dig through their property. Basically a 2x2 ft wooden box with chicken wire stapled to one side. My teenage daughters spent yesterday buying materials, building boxes, and then delivering them to the disaster center in Lafayette. Great way to spend the last day of vacation. This is a prime example of how the church works - let local and federal government lead the recovery and when a need is presented step in with a slew of members eager to immediately solve it. When we dropped off our boxes the DAC staff said they’d passed out several hundred that day and were down to only five. 11

A neighbor of ours that is active in his local church called me two days ago to see if we had a couple of blankets to spare to donate. They have opened several churches around the communities to house temporarily those left homeless by the fire as it burned its way through the foothills development and those evacuated because of danger. We were more than happy to help. We went yesterday and helped in the kitchen there to prep meals for about 150 people that are staying in that particular church building. Today in Sacrament, not a peep about the issues affecting the community. In my view, more evidence of how disconnected, aloof and indifferent most (individual) members of our church are to what happens around them. I have argued before rather unsuccessfully, that "invisible, private faith" is no faith at all. If the work of the Spirit is not visible in terms of tangible "fruit", there is no Spirit at work in that person, regardless of whatever else the person may claim or adhere to in general. A scripture comes to mind: "And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. " James 2:16-17 Don't break your arm.

Popular Post LoudmouthMormon Posted January 6, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 6, 2022 @Islander now that it's been a week since the initial devastation, have your thoughts changed any? It's a normal human reaction, after firsthand witnessing a disaster, to be amped up on adrenalin with a heightened sense of urgency and immediacy. It's the "we've gotta do something" phase of a disaster. But over time, the brain chemicals amp back down to normal levels, our amygdalas go back to normal functioning, and, as they say, "cooler heads prevail". Just wondering, has your cooler head perhaps mitigated your harsh judgments, or are you gonna keep them? 8

I ask, because bias in the latter would be obvious and would be expected; it is, after all, opinion writing. But there would not necessarily be such an expectation with the former. If you’re teaching your students to avoid being misled by training them to spot bias, you would need to make it challenging by presenting stories to them that purport to be unbiased or at least balanced. 1
Popular Post Bernard Gui Posted January 10, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 10, 2022 (edited) A week ago Saturday a tornado touched down in our ward boundaries about 2:00 pm. On Sunday the bishop (our son Cellisimo) announced that a ward member’s home, barn, fences, and trees had been damaged, and that anyone with a chainsaw or desires to help could go over after our 9:00am sacrament meeting to help out the family. Within two hours almost 70 people showed up and worked until dark clearing roads and removing debris and downed trees. One sister brought sandwiches, chips, water, and cookies for everyone. County officials surveying the damages were astonished by the crowd of workers. BTW, we don’t have a large ward. Edited January 10, 2022 by Bernard Gui 6
