Perhaps I'm simply another on that endless list of clueless, misogynistic, chauvinistic guys, but I think there's a huge difference between the two.  And if I wanted to give someone a sincere compliment about his wife, I certainly wouldn't do it a Rick Springfield, "Jessie's Girl" way.  I once saw a picture of a coworker's wife on his desk and asked, "Is this your wife?"  Hearing an affirmative answer, I said simply, "You married very well."

Just a word to the wise ... or not.  It's up to you.

 

These days it is not safe to compliment any woman about anything. Except perhaps a boss can say: You did a good job on the project, a compliment that could also be given to a man.  Best to stay silent with personal compliments. Likewise, it may not be safe to open a door for a woman just because she is a woman. She could be offended. Much better to treat everyone the same without distinctions. Of course wives and girlfriends could be an exception.

Instead of everyone worrying about what exactly Santa will bring for Christmas, I think we should be spending that energy on making sure we are on the good kiddie list and even better next year.

We should be working on making sure we get the new bike next year if we don't this year, and be concentrating on that rather than worrying about how to scam the system. 😇🙃

First, I'd like to say, yes I came on this board rather strong, but as I learned and dealt with what has turned into a full blown faith crisis, I apologized numerous times when I was told I was wrong in how I was handling my comments or personal stories. But I have to say, I have felt like I've been playing defense the whole time I've been on here, from being called a troll to what I consider little snooty remarks made toward me, I understand I'm mot innocent in my actions. I'm new at this, I honestly dont communicate with people through writing, maybe text but that's 1 or 2 lines and I'm done, I guess I'm an odd duck. But take this thread for instance, I felt I had to be defensive from the first comment mfbukowski left, a veteran commenter said there's pretty much no chance anyone was going to take my thread seriously. I'll admit, I might be looking at this totally wrong, but that's how I feel.

    Secondly I came on here and told you exactly what I do, how i act for the most part, and who I kind of interact with. I admitted I'm going to be out of the norm, but that I thought you guys might benefit from my stories and life experiences because I usually approach a situation from a different angle than most people. Me personally, I love to interact with people who are totally different than me, that's how I learn. And I am different than you guys, how many mormon do you know that have bought 100s of 12 packs for their employees and at the same time never sipped one ounce of beer? How many mormons do you that have multiple felons working for them as roofers and invites them over for parties and welcomes the guys to bring their girlfriends who are mostly strippers. Just like my mormon friends, the people I just described are some of the best people I've ever met and had an opportunity to hang out with. I respect all people. And raingirl I'm sorry, but all women are 10s to me, I've never met one that isn't, even if I met Rosie O'Donell, I would even put her on a pedestal, but I'm not going to change because you find one remark I made to a MAN, "not a woman", discusting. I know the way I live my life and I treat women as goddesses much like I think heavenly father would, I put them on pedestals, if I'm wrong for that than so be it, but the women I interact with love it. Like I said, I think you and I live in totally different worlds.

Who is claiming they don’t?  Or perhaps you think women generally think it is okay for other women to do this (to other women or to men)?  In general they don’t...at least once they have matured and stopped thinking of life as some sort of beauty competition.

No, it's just the facts of life among the heathen. There is in fact a movie titled " Ten" starring Bo Derrick and Dudley Moore. You whom were raised in the church were sheltered from this type of thing.

Funny thing regarding translations and objectifying people. A Vietnamese women once told my wife " you used to be beautiful". Of course what she meant was in her younger years my wife was a 10. We still laugh about it.

Moral of the thread:  The fact that someone is a member of the Church doesn't necessarily mean they will receive celestial gory.  Not even if that person is a woman and a wife of Joseph Smith, our Lord's first prophet in this dispensation.

Or in other words, not all women, and not all men, are necessarily going to rate a 10 out of 10 on the scale of celestial perfection.

I'm not convinced, notwithstanding Brother Brigham's assessment to the contrary, that Sister Emma's fate in the hereafter is all that undesirable.  I think it is very telling that she died, not with Lewis Bidamon's name nor the name of anyone else on her lips, but, conversely, with the name of Her Beloved Joseph on her lips, and that not just once, not just twice, but thrice.  I'm sure Sister Emma is just fine.  I hope I do a fraction as well.

Are you kidding?  I am well aware of 10 and Bo Derek’s seaweed hairstyle that made cornrows popular on white girls (for awhile). One of the reason I despise the 10 rating system is having seen girls and women subjected to it all my life. 
 

Being a member doesn’t protect you from getting rated, yelled, or whistled at while walking down the road, getting rated in your yearbook or while walking past boys snickering. 
 

Calling it the facts of life only makes it appear more acceptable.

I never saw the movie myself. It may not be acceptable but that's the way it is. I know women that use the same grading system. You can blame it on the Olympics, ice skating and gymnastics. 😄

I don’t expect to. But the only way to stop people being treated as less than human, whether for sex, race, religion, whatever, is to speak up.

I still don't see how we get more out of these distinctions than good, better, best classifications.  I have never felt damned while staying in a Motel 6, even though rich folks might have that silly opinion.  Same for having a KFC three-piece meal and a root beer float for dinner -- don't need no crepe suzettes to feel like I'm in heaven.

Yeah, I know.  I'm still having trouble believing it myself.  One of the biggest sacrifices I have ever made in my life, and I am doing it to help others in my family.

I agree with you that you dont have to feel damned in the terrestrial kingdom because I do believe its 1000 times better there, then what we're living now. And I certainly dont feel damned as I live my daily life, actually, I feel blessed. But if exaltation is our ultimate goal as mormons, then losing exaltation plus the ability to live with our family has to be some sort of punishment. If reaching the terrestrial kingdom doesn't  mean we're being punished, then let's drink and be merry right now, I'll bring the weed and we can talk about how much fun you and I are going to have in the terrestrial kingdom.😁 just kidding. I don't believe in lost exaltation, only delayed exaltation.

Progression is eternal.  I think verses interpreted as permanent barriers are misinterpreted.
