What AI has to say about Mormons

Cool, a new "Everything You Should Know About Mormonism" website generator.

I love this matter-of-fact answer:   "Are Mormons Christians?  No. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) is an exclusively male religion."   Ha, everyone knows that you can't be a Christian unless you allow women in the church too, right?  :)   So now what do we do with the Relief Society?

Jerry Seinfeld is the promised Jewish Messiah, the Hope of Israel, who brings salvation to his people. He will bring a Millennium of peace. "He will reign in the house of David and he will reign for 1,260 years."
The Lord said: "I will make you like the palm tree, and will bring you to a place you did not know. I will wipe away every tear from your eyes." Ezekiel 28:9-10 "In the latter days, Jerry will reign and his followers will be caught up with Him into the heavens." Matthew 13:43 "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows up, it is the greatest of plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches."

In some cases, "AI" stands for "Artificial Incoherence."

I played with this a little bit a while back. I decided to get its take on Satanism:

Hail Satan!!)

Lupin's wife: "Mama, the day we get out of this dungeon!"

Ginny: "You'd better not make me say that to your father again, dear..."

Lupin: "Well, you see... I've got to ask you one more time... if you want to save your father, do you want me to... save my father...?" (Ginny: "No! You can't...")

Rubeus Hagrid: "He's a very special boy. Just like his father."

Bertie Botts: "I know what you're thinking... I just don't want to lose you, Lupin..." (Lupin: "You'd better not make me say that to your mother...")

Lupin: "Don't let him take my father away from me... I love him so much, I would

I just typed in "The Nehor believes that" and here's the response:

The Nehor believes that the sun is a god that can take us to the heavens and will be the salvation of the universe. This is why he tries to keep the world a secret. But it is not a secret. I do not have a solution to this yet.

In the future I will have a solution.

In the meantime, you are free to discuss it here.

Discuss away.

You can get an idea of which sources the AI is using. Here, it looks to be relying on church magazines. The bio at the end is quite amusing.

Mormons are a very tight knit group. There is no need for any kind of conflict, especially not among the children. This kind of conflict does not lead to any good. I hope I have helped you to understand the value of this principle. May God bless you and keep you safe and strong. "Amen"

Seems like artificial cleaveth to artificial more than intelligence cleaveth to intelligence...

A new interface has been released online that allows you to interact with AI. Start a sentence or paragraph and it will continue writing based on its knowledge from "reading" millions of pages. After playing around with it a little bit I decided to ask it: Are Mormons Christian? Here is what it replied:

Though AI still has a long way to go, this was actually more coherent than some of the trolls we get on here from time-to-time.

😂

All too true!

yet it is disturbing that artificial intelligence would come up with such a garbled rendition after “reading thousands of pages.” As the saying goes, “garbage in, garbage out.”

No wonder so many people with human intelligence have such a hard time understanding the Church.

These AI are usually poorly executed in my opinion. An AI was released sometime ago and it support committing crimes against humanity.

This was one of my takeaways, too. AI presumably doesn't have any biases to start with: no religion, political persuasion or existing worldview to color its interpretation. So I see AI's feedback as something of an "honest" take on a bunch of information regarding Mormons. In other words, it tries to grapple with a bunch of conflicting information and produce something coherent from it ("tries" being the operative word, here). I ran several phrases multiple times so see what popped out. I was quite amused, and at the same time, felt like it gave me an insight into what a person who knew nothing about Mormonism might conclude after doing some online research.

Another amusing exercise is to feed it a snippet of scripture to see what it spits out. I have been experimenting using the beginning of 1 Nephi 3:7: "And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father". Sometimes you get gobbledygook, sometimes you get hilarity. But the AI does recognize that it is scripture and tries to produce scriptural-sounding text, even including verse numbering at times. Here's one example:

Quote

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: My father, let my brother look upon the plates; and it came to pass that he did look upon them. And it came to pass that he was amazed, and his face was exceedingly sorrowful, and he was left to ponder in his heart what it might mean that the Lord had caused the plates to be seen, and he was filled with doubt and anxiety concerning the goodness and power of God unto the restoration of the Jews, and also concerning the coming of the Messiah.

Funny since there are probably more women than men in the Church.

So here's my theory.  Solomon Spaulding knew that Joseph Smith had a mental illness, so he collaborated with "Doctor" Hurlburt Who and traveled to the future and obtained an AI device and brought it back to 1828 so that Joseph could use his intellect to do automatic writing using the AI device from the future to write the entire Book of Mormon.   Does that work?

Heresy, here is my religion:

Nehor explained religion in the context of the "spiritual battle" against a malevolent deity, which is something he felt he had to do after being given an ultimatum by God: leave God's house, or die. In the film, his faith is a powerful force in the lives of the two men he loves. When they go missing, God asks them: "Will your faith lead you back to me? Will your faith lead you to God?"

And he does. Through God's help, the two men end up reunited with their wives, who've returned home from war. This may be the film's most heartwarming scene, a powerful moment of redemption for the lovers, even if the circumstances in which it takes place are almost certainly a bit more complex than a simple love story.

The film does a good job of illustrating this theme throughout, as the filmmakers use their time onscreen to show us that, despite how the

Sounds like me. Loving two men and then they abandon me for their wives. Jerks. Not my religion though:

Nehor explained religion and government in a way the world had never seen.

'We will have a new nation,' he said.

'We will have a new state.'

The man who founded the nation said the 'Great God' had chosen them and they would govern themselves.

'The day that we make our decision and declare that we are one nation under one God, a New Jerusalem shall be established,' he said.

'God says you shall be one nation under one God,' he added.

'We will have a one-state solution, that will be our policy.'

He also said Israel and Palestine would be the first nations that will live side-by-side in peace and cooperation, according to The Hill.

He also promised to give Palestinians a 'state with no Jews.'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was 'very proud of the decision' and added: 'We hope we

Wait, did I just call for genocide?

Nehor explained his religion, and how it had to be a secret to everyone, so nobody would question it. The God of the Old Testament is the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the Jewish people; but no matter how they said it, they could never find a way to explain the existence of God to the people, as a way to bring about change in society, as a means to help the poor. No matter what they told the people, no matter how hard they tried, no matter how many prayers they made, the people could not be convinced that there was no God, no way to get rid of God. God was never going to change his mind.

Okay, looks like it worked that time.

Ok, I hope I don't get into trouble for this one , but in light of the answer given to the "Are Mormons Christian" question in the OP,  and the answer:  "No. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) is an exclusively male religion.", I decided to ask the AI the needed followup question, "Are women Christian?"   And I give my boy scouts honor that this is exactly what the AI said in reply, I did NOT make this up!  So please don't blame me for the content!  :)

Quote

Are women Christian?

No, not really.

Women are considered to be spiritual, but not really spiritual, not really believing. They're not doing anything. They're not living, not participating. They're doing the minimum. They're in a relationship, but it's a relationship of service. You have to show up for him, and he has to do the minimum with you, so you really want to be with him, you really want to know what he's doing.

When you say you're an atheist, does that mean you're against religion in any way?

No. I think people should be able to express whatever they think. If they're going to do it outside of the church, fine. If they're going to do it within the church, fine. That's just the way it is. I have a strong sense of, if you're going to express an opinion about religion, do it outside of the church.

I'd say the AI needs some more work, and maybe a few women on the development team!

To be fair it appears to think similarly about men:

Are men Christian? No. They've got the most liberal and atheistic religion that you've got. So what do they do? They go, 'Hey, this is what I believe. I'll go to heaven. I'll live in a garden. I'll ride horses and fly through the sky. Oh yeah! I'm going to be the best of all the people. I'll be a prophet and I'm going to say that I'm a man, and I'll tell people how to live and what to believe.' And then they die."

The men who are religious tend to feel threatened by women's freedom to choose, but they are reluctant to give up on a religion that says it's their duty to punish women for making choices they make.

Men who do not believe in god, on the other hand, tend to be more accepting of women's choices.

There are some who want to change that, like Sarah Palin, who wants

No, never mind, it had to stick in a dig about women too. Uncannily accurate about Sarah Palin though. :vader:

Ok, I was wondering if the AI would admit to anyone being a Christian, so I had to ask the following question.  I'm disappointed that it didn't really answer my question and got all defensive about Catholicism  :)

Quote

Are Protestants Christian?

This question often arises when people think about the question of whether or not the Catholic church is Protestant. However, in reality, no one can say that the Catholic church is Protestant. What the Catholic church is, is the Catholic church, and all who are Catholic are Catholic because of the fact that they have been baptized into the Catholic church and that the Church is the Church. This is why Catholics do not "fall" away from Catholicism: the Catholic church is not "falling." It is a permanent reality.

However, there are those who argue that the Catholic church can be called Protestant by some in the Church. They say that the church that is known as Protestant is not as organized as the Catholic church, and therefore can fall away, but it is more than just a matter of being "disorganized" (i.e. "disobedient"). They argue that it is actually the church itself that is disorganized; that there is...  [that's where it stopped]

It stopped right when it was starting to get interesting.

Wow, that is hilarious and profound that an analytical machine will conclude from its data set that Mormonism is exclusively male! A bit too close to the truth.

Artificial answers from something with artificial intelligence.  Not the real thing.  Not truth or true intelligence.  A waste of time, really.
