provoman Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 (edited) **MODERATORS, if the names mention need to be edited out and the website mentioned, I will do so. Mike Norton, aka NewNameNoah, is currently soliciting lds.org logins and passwords. What is curious about the solicitation is that he references a website used to submit resignation of membership letter to The Church. Edited June 3, 2018 by provoman 2
Duncan Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 If someone had their membership removed under these nutty circumstances wouldn't they just reinstate it as if nothing happened?

why me Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 (edited) In Europe, there is a new data protection law now in operation. If Mike breaches this, he may find himself in a lot of trouble if he visits Europe. Complaints against him for the breach may find him on an interpol list. One must be very careful these days with breaching personal data. Edited June 3, 2018 by why me 3
Popular Post Gray Posted June 3, 2018 Popular Post Posted June 3, 2018 Wow, stay classy Mike Norton. 5
Popular Post The Nehor Posted June 3, 2018 Popular Post Posted June 3, 2018 If he is planning on using this information to submit resignation letters representing himself as someone he is not then I am hopeful for fraud charges and prison time. I think that is a fair tradeoff. 8

Calm Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 Has he said anything else suggesting resignation letters are his plan? Any reason not to suppose he just plans to bulk mail links to antimormon sites, for example?
rpn Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 How sad. He clearly wants to misuse the directory (or maybe do something to jam the tech). I presume he was soliciting this in the not for faithful mormon listserv(s)?
Stargazer Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 (edited) Sounds to me that he is planning to spam church members looking for people who are contemplating name removal, but who are not informed how to do it, or may not even be aware that it is possible. On the other hand, some people use the same id/password everywhere, so there's potential for identity theft and/or theft. Edited June 3, 2018 by Stargazer 1

cinepro Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 A "very special project"? Truly, you can take the boy out of Mormonism, but you can't take the Mormonism out of the boy. 1
Jeanne Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 I really don't think this is what it is all about..though I am baffled also. No worries here ..I check on LDS.org but do night sign or communicate. Interesting..

Forcing resignations would seem to be a silly use of the data. Perhaps reference to quitmormon.com is misdirection as you allude.
Amulek Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 What on earth does he possibly think he can do with names/numbers that would result in tons of people leaving the church? Telemarket us all out of the church? Good luck with that. 1

People do make dumb mistakes all the time and one should be careful to consider the dumb mistake option. Mr. Norton seems smarter than that. My guess is that he is maybe trying to see if name removal makes it to ward lists. People who have removed their names claim to still be contacted occasionally.
