Degrees Within the Celestial Kingdom

"God would cease to be God" could have a strict literal meaning or a relstive mesning. If God would allow forgiveness for sin instead of condemnation, then what salvific difference would it make follow Him? So, would God cease to be God because He is no longer the God of the universe or He would no longer be relevant us personally?

A self dealing God is oxymoronic.

I don't know exactly what you mean by that but God could self anything, could He not?

You won't find God anywhere claiming he would cease to be God if he did certain things. Skousen propagated this based on the words of Lehi which may or may not have been poetic license.

Many have trouble getting married. Not because they don't want to, but because . . . it's increasingly hard to get married (for a number of reasons not having to do with laziness, unworthiness, lack of ambition, etc.).

It seems like there's at least one Ensign article a month about the plight of single members.

I find this mysterious, actually, even though I acknowledge that the problem exists.  How can they not find a decent spouse?  Standards too high, or too narrow?  I don't think that I'm any great catch, but I didn't have a bit of trouble finding my now late wife.  And when she passed away after 35 years of marriage, three months later a marvelous woman came into my life and has turned my darkened world back into light.  I wasn't even looking seriously!

It seems almost unfair, when I think of many apparently good men, such as our own Duncan, who hasn't been able to rustle up a partner.  And here I get handed one on a silver platter.

An Eternal Singles Ward? Sounds dreadful.

Yes, it does!  Made me laugh, thanks. :-)

Does Lehi say it?  I can only find examples in Alma and Moroni.

I wouldn't worry about different degrees in the celestial kingdom.

I have it on good authority that the temperature is uniform throughout the whole place.  They have a great HVAC system.

And while we are on the subject, I just saw an add on TV for a complete solar system for $3000.

That sure beats all that work keeping the commandments and all you get is a planet?  Sounds like a much better deal to me. And that way, you get to have fun here on earth besides.  Heck you can't go wrong with that kind of a deal.

Yeah that was supposed to be "solar system".

That is exactly what they said.

Dang I was just there last week in Humble.  Seriously- I was there.   We gotta get together next time

I just love it when an adjective is used for a city name.  Nice that they have humble police there, and humble wildcats, a humble courthouse and even a humble walmart or two or three.  And even kind of a humble airport though its not called that.

You could get into a hobby, talk to a humble wildcat and then take off out of a bush.

Pretty cool place. ;)

No, seriously I like Houston a lot.  I could live there- except in summer.  Poached Bukowski on toast is not my favorite.

Loved Galveston Island.  If it weren't for hurricanes....   ;)

Absolutely! Humble is just a 10-15 minute drive for me. Give me a heads up the next time you go to northern Houston.

Yes, the summers are brutal but overall a great city.

I'm soon going on a trip to Texas, never been! We'll be in the Waco, San Antonia, Austin and Dallas area. Any suggestions on what to see would be great, maybe PM?

The Water Walk in San Antonio I do know and experienced and it is very nice. As for Waco I think a blogger friend of mine spoke of an absolutly fabulous Mexican restaurant which is a must experience I think in that area but ot may have been El Paso. If I can track down the person who spoke of it and get details I'll let tou know via PMing you here. Unfortunately I do not know any of those areas much at all beyond what I just shared with you. Wish I could be more of a help. Enjoy the trip though!

I grew up in Waco and can't think of anything special there except for some of my family who are still there. My favorite restaurant there is a little shack of a place called Jasper's who serves BBQ every day until he is sold out.  Best thing about it that he gives a small bowl of the drippings with as much bread as you want with it, as long as you buy some BBQ. The BBQ meat is sold by the weight, and I usually got a couple of pounds.

San Antonio has the Alamo and a nice river walk with several good restaurants and some of the best Tex Mex anywhere. By the Alamo there is a Space Needle restaurant/gift shop with a good view and food that is only okay. Also a good zoo.

Austin is my favorite city in Texas but mostly only because of the environment. Similar to San Antonio but nicer, it seemed to me.

Dallas is okay with a Six Flags theme park between Dallas and Fort Worth. Also the Texas Ranger stadium. and of course the Cowboys.
