Nevo Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Even though President Packer had been in obviously poor health for quite a long time, this still comes as a shock. He was as tough as an old boot. But he prepared for this his whole life and I doubt anyone has ever been readier to go. Like Abraham, he "died at a good old age, an old man and full of years." I have to admit I also didn't anticipate Russell M. Nelson being President of the Quorum of the Twelve and being (ahem) a heartbeat away from the presidency. He appears to be in excellent health too. I don't think he's aged in the last 20-30 years. 1

Another one will replace him. He fulfilled his calling. He has moved on to greater things. I was just at the Salt Lake Tribune comment board and many people are glad to see him gone. They say he was a homophobe, hater, bigot, and so forth. It shows he did his calling well as an apostle will offend the wicked and the wicked will hate him for it. If the wicked love an apostle, the apostle has not done his job. May we all finish our lives as well as he did. There is no loss. Time to just give thanks for his life and look forward to the next good man to replace him. 3

If anyone here passes through Provo I highly recommend that you check it out. We have lost an exceptional man. 1

He took a lot of criticism for a few GC talks and one to CES personel. But many of his talks were full of love and compassion as were his writings, 3

The world is a less hateful place." Apparently the irony is lost on the commenter. I can say the President Packer has been perhaps more influential on me than any other apostle in my lifetime. I have at times disagreed with him, but those who call him a hater missed the majority of his talks/words.

It's the 21st century and I believe we need some new, and yes, younger blood, in the 12 and 1st Presidency. What is needed is a fresh perspective for moving forward with our changing culture

Broker Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Those who despised President Packer may be glad he's gone. Unfortunately, it's not the last they'll see of him. My belief is that the apostles will be very much involved in the judgment process of those who lived during their times. President Packer will still get in the last word. 1
