$1.5Mn Charity Donation To... A War Museum In America?

If I had $1.5 million to give to charity, I think i might seriously consider funding a treatment program for busy-bodies who worry too much about how other people spend their [own] money. ;)

I am thinking of naming it the Judas Iscariot fund in honor of the scolding he gave Mary for her use of expensive oils on the Savior. (See HERE)

Whatever the case, while it may not be our business to worrying about how the Church and private citizens determine to spend their own money, there may be some value in assessing how government people spend mine and other people's money, such as the $450 million "bridge to nowhere," and other boondoggles. (See HERE)

Thanks, -Wade Englund-

Growing up in New Zealand we didn't sign any national anthems at church, US or otherwise.

Be that as it may, I know that non-English editions of the hymnal often contain patriotic or national anthems of the lands where they are used.

"Being subject to kings, presidents, rulers and magistrates" is part of our doctrine and, by virtue of the Articles of Faith being in the Pearl of Great Price, our scriptural canon.

Aren't you here feeding at the trough of America? Dust off your OT and read the birth right blessings to Joseph regarding Ephriam and Manessa.

The birthright blessings of Ephraim and Manasseh are of great worth.

According to one interpretation, Ephraim (described as a "company of nations") refers to the British Commonwealth and the countries of northern Europe; and Manasseh (described as a "great nation") refers to what we now call the USA. It should be remembered that the Lehites were descendents of Manasseh. I have noticed that most Native American church members I have met are of the tribe of Manasseh according to their PB's.

So Britiain and it's commonwealth (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada etc) is the land (company) of Ephraim, while the US is the land of Manasseh.

At least, that's the way some interpret it.

Not sure what you are talking about with troughs... Perhaps if the question was a little less figurative I might be able to reply in a way that makes sense.

Like I said - no need to brush off anything - OT is Sunday school this year so we have recently been covering all of it... I also frequently teach adult Sunday school and taught that lesson. What does said birthright have to do with what posted?

I'm sorry, I'm in sooo much pain right now, I can't think. I'll answer later.

I believe the church guidance allows patriotic songs to be added to the hymnal based on nationality etc. the only patriotic songs included are the USA and UK ones (unless this has recently changed). This is specific to the English hymn books.

I have never been to a country using the English hymn book that has added their own patriotic nationalistic songs.

IIRC, the US hymnbook includes “God Save the Queen”  (with a few minor changes).

One can also order special inserts for national songs..or used to. I can't remember if O Canada had to be ordered with the current one or not.

Add-on: perhaps I am wrong and my memory is just of local units who did it on their own and matched the style perfectly. I will have to check.

We had O Canada added, as I mentioned it appeared to me an official insert. Perhaps it is a faulty memory or the Church stopped doing it once they got too big or maybe a Canadian company put them out.

The irony of this post is hilarious. Thank you for giving me the, perhaps unintended, smile.

This thread seems to have run its course. Given it's degenerated into name calling and slander by association (The Judas Iscariot Fund...? nice) I think it's time to lock it.
